  • Slamdance 2021 - A Tiny Ripple of Hope with Director Jason Polevoi

    Send us Fan Mail

We're bringing you another Slamdance conversation with Jason Polevoi, director of the documentary A Tiny Ripple of Hope. This powerful doc follows a tumultuous year in the life of Jahmal Cole, the founder and Executive Director of My Block, My Hood, My City, a non-profit that provides underprivileged Chicago youth with an awareness of the world and opportunities beyond their neighborhood. We discuss the effects of segregation in Chicago, the power of community, the downside of prioritizing your cause before yourself, and the struggles of being an independent filmmaker while holding down a full time job.

We hope this conversation inspires you to get involved! Jahmal's story is a reminder that every action (large or small) can create a ripple. For more ways to support My Block, My Hood, My City, click HERE.

  • Slamdance 2021 - Bleeding Audio Director Chelsea Christer and The Matches Justin San Souci

    Send us Fan Mail

Next stop, Slamdance y'all!  Our first interview during the film festival for filmmakers by filmmakers is with director Chelsea Christer and band member of The Matches,  Justin  San Souci. In this interview, they talk about their documentary Bleeding Audio, which follows the journey of a band out of Oakland, Ca. called  The Matches.  The  incredible footage they have of the band as they grow up in the music industry sets the stage for the journey they take as the industry turns to digital platforms almost overnight. The toll the digital age takes on a band coupled by having bad management is an interesting true story that Chelsea captures and tells so well through the lens of the band members, their parents, and their community.

This was a fun interview and this doc. makes us yearn for live music shows - which can't come fast enough - after everyone gets the vaccine of course.  Thanks for listening!

Bleeding Audio is currently playing at the Slamdance Film Festival, and will be making its way around the circuit at the San Luis Obispo & Oxford Film Festivals in March.

Visit the Bleeding Audio website, then follow them on Instagram & Twitter to  get all the latest!

  • Basic Bitch - Sundance Wrap-Up

    Send us Fan Mail

It's our Sundance 2021 wrap-up with our honorary Bitches John Wildman and Justina Walford of FilmsGoneWild.com.

We talk the pros and cons of attending a virtual event (we missed being in Park City, but we are not complaining about doing interviews in our pajamas), our favorite interviews, which film has left us scarred for life, and spill some serious tea on what it's like to work with some of the more difficult publicists.

A HUGE thank you to Sundance, we'll (hopefully) see you again next year! (preferably in person at the High West Distillery)

  • Sundance 2021: The Best of the Bay!

    Send us Fan Mail

We're here at Sundance 2021 (virtually) joined by our honorary Bitch and Sundance partner-in-crime John Wildman ofFilmsGoneWild.com.

In this episode, we're proud to bring you filmmakers and stories exclusively from the Bay! We're joined with the cast and crew from the films Amy Tan: Unintended Memoir, Homeroom, and Marvelous and the Black Hole.

Producer Cassandra Jabola from Amy Tan: Unintended Memoir, discusses the cultural impact of Amy Tan, and the importance of representation in media.

Homeroom follows the class of 2020 at Oakland High School as they work to make a change in the school to prison pipeline, and react to a global pandemic. We were honored to chat with one of the doc's main subjects, Denilson Garibo, about activism, persistence, and where we go from here.

In Marvelous and the Black Hole, we were joined by director Kate Tsang, and the stars Miya Cech, and the one and only Rhea Perlman. We discuss the Bay vibes throughout the film, channeling your inner badass, becoming a magician, and the significance of stealing toilet paper.

We love the Bay, and we LOVE these films! Thank you to Sundance for bringing these voices to light, and don't forget to support your local filmmakers!

    Send us Fan Mail

We're here at Sundance 2021 (virtually) joined by our honorary Bitch and Sundance partner-in-crime John Wildman of FilmsGoneWild.com.

Happy hump day, ya'll! In this Episode, we are with the crew from First Date, One For the Road, and Pleasure, three films that will take you for a ride in more ways than one!

In First Date, we're joined by director Manuel Crosby, producer/talent Brandon Kraus, and stars Tyson Brown, and Shelby Duclos. We get into filming shootouts and violent scenes on an independent budget, and the importance of having badass women save the day.

We had a packed house for One For the Road, as we welcomed director Baz Poonpiriya, and stars Ice Natara, Tor Leeratanakajorn, and Violette Wautier. We get into how this film is loosely based on Baz's personal  life, and the fun of shooting a story about friends on a redemption road trip through Thailand.

And to cap it off, we bring you our interview with director Ninja Thyberg of the film Pleasure, the story of a young Swedish woman who moves to LA in the hopes of becoming the world's next big porn star. To say this movie stays with you is putting it mildly. It's hard to watch, for all the right reasons, and we're happy to see an honest film about the female experience in the world of adult film. And breaking news, the film studio A24 just picked up this film so you'll get to see it for yourself in the near future.  It's not like Boogie Nights AT ALL.

Buckle up folks, this is one hell of a ride. And don't forget to support independent filmmakers!

  • Sundance 2021: The Documentaries Episode

    Send us Fan Mail

We're here at Sundance 2021 (virtually) joined by our honorary Bitch and Sundance partner-in-crime John Wildman of FilmsGoneWild.com.

In this Episode, we're joined by the cast and crew from the documentaries Bring Your Own Brigade, Rebel Hearts, and A Concerto is a Conversation.

Emmy-winning director Lucy Walker shares her journey digging into the complicated history of California wildfires in Bring Your Own Brigade (spoiler alert: we can't blame everything on global warming).

In Rebel Hearts, which chronicles a trailblazing group of nuns that fought back against the patriarchal stronghold of the Catholic Church, we commiserate with director Pedro Kos about growing up in a religious household with a healthy fear of nuns.

Kris Bowers co-directs and stars in A Concerto is a Conversation, a  short doc that interweaves his career as a composer to the stories of his 91-year-old grandfather.

The topics of the films in this episode further illustrate the importance of documentaries - to inform, to make us question, and to unite. Enjoy!

  • Sundance 2021: The Thriller/Sci-Fi Episode

    Send us Fan Mail

We're here at Sundance 2021 (virtually) joined by our honorary Bitch and Sundance Partner-In-Crime John Wildman of FilmsGoneWild.com.

In this episode, we're joined with the cast and crew from the films  The Blazing World, Strawberry Mansion, and We're All Going to the World's Fair, all thriller/sci-fi films that will leave you debating the difference between dreams and reality.

In The Blazing World, we speak with director Carlson Young and star Vinessa  Shaw about the the connection between dreams and trauma.

The guys from Strawberry Mansion , Kentucker Audley and Albert Birney talk about the 10 year process to create this future forward drama that examines taxing people's dreams that contain advertisements (sound familiar?)

Jane Schoenbrun and Anna Cobb from We're All Going to the World's Fair share their director/actor dynamic and the trust it took to accomplish Anna's powerful big screen debut.

The best thing about being part of Sundance is watching exciting fresh faces both in front of the camera, and behind the scenes, and getting to dive into these crazy films where reality becomes dreams, and dreams involve fried chicken. Support  indie filmmaking!

In this Episode, we are with the crew from My Name is Pauli Murray and Playing with Sharks, two documentaries that cover powerhouse women!

  • Basic Bitching (Virtually) From Sundance 2021

    Send us Fan Mail

We've been virtually covering the Sundance Film Fest for the last week or so and wanted to check-in with our friend, John Wildman of Films Gone Wild . Normally we'd be in a room with John co-hosting a show called The Festival Daily Buzz for a local Park City, Utah radio station, but this year, since we're sheltering in place, we're Sundanc-ing as our respective outlets.

Sit back and enjoy our thoughts on the realities of watching a film festival movie at home when you're  sharing space with others (clearing through - family),  juggling interviewing multiple guests on one screen via Zoom, and missing the things that Sundanc-ing in place just can't replace when you're in Park City.

We'll be all Sundance during the next week or two, so get ready for some fun and insightful interviews with filmmakers, actors, and producers from all around the world.   Thanks for listening!
