Your girls are basic bitching about New Kids On The Block, "Crawl in Place" pub crawl, seeing family in person after months in SIP, and more...
It's been a minute since the three of us have had a basic bitch session. We got to catch up on Ange's visitor from L.A.(Richard "The Curse") and their "Crawl in Place" pub crawl, Char getting out into the world and seeing her nephews for the first time since SIP started, and Erin's online escape to the live New Kids on The Block Step by Step Facebook event. Fortunately (or unfortunately) the NKOTB conversation lasted half of the episode so if you're a fan or just want to make fun of Producer Char and Erin - ENJOY.
Be well, stay safe, and thank you for wearing a mask.

Welcome to part 2 of our conversation with nurse/dancer/musician/activist Marina Stankov-Hodge. We originally did not plan on having a 2 part episode, but our "post" conversation talk provided to be so good, we decided to share it anyway! We talk about Black Trans deaths, the phobia in Black culture with the queer community, and the problem with hypermasculinity. We discuss different aspects of street dance that originated in gay clubs like Waacking and battles, and the street dance community's responsibility to shed light on its origins. We agree one of the most important things we can be doing right now is having conversations with our families, our friends, and anyone who is willing to listen. And this is an ongoing conversation, it can't just stop with one narrative.
In closing, she shares a book that's been helping her gain perspective, Ross Gay's The Book of Delights. Marina has such a unique talent of explaining really complicated topics from a thoughtful and educated perspective, and we were so grateful for her time! We can't wait until we have her on again.
Be well, stay safe, and thank you for staying home.

This is nurse/dancer/musician/activist Marina Stankov-Hodge's third time joining us on Bitch Talk! She's one of our favorite guests, and her episodes reflect her uniqueness and diversity as a person. Her first episode centered around her origin story leading up to becoming a nurse and her work in Brazil (which ends with an original song performance!), and her second episode was recorded in April, about her experience as a frontline worker during a pandemic. It's only been 2 months, but as we all know, A LOT has changed. The first thing that sparked us wanting her back on the show was a video posted by Mix'd Ingrdnts, of Marina breakdancing during a protest in Alameda. We get into the connection between her activism and love for dance, systemic racism, and her experience being a child of mixed race parents. She had so much to share, we're breaking it into 2 episodes!

Welcome to Part 2 of our international Basic Bitch with Anna Mangelsdorf, an artist in Germany, and Lizi Nachum, a teacher in Israel. We dive deeper into the topic of racism, and Lizi shares a traumatizing story that explains why she will NEVER return to the US. We discuss wether or not the US is still considered a leading country in the world, and wether that's a good thing in the first place. And then Lizi shares her first time meeting a Palestinian woman as a volunteer with Musalaha, a non-profit organization that promotes and facilitates reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.

Welcome to our international Basic Bitch with Anna Mangelsdorf, an artist in Germany, and Lizi Nachum, a teacher in Israel. With all of the issues going on in our country, it's easy to be stuck inside our bubbles. We wanted to get some different perspectives from people just like us, only on the other side of the world. We discuss the difference in our country's response to Covid-19, and their country's protests in support of Black Lives Matter. Anna shares how Germany has dealt with the stigma of Nazism and WW2, and how meeting Lizi (the first Jewish person she ever met) on a trip to Guatemala changed her life. We were so grateful to these ladies for their honesty on such complicated topics. Our conversation went so well, we had to break it into 2 episodes! Be on the lookout for part 2 when Lizi shares a traumatizing experience while traveling through the US, and how volunteering for an organization in Israel helped change her perspective on who we are taught is the enemy, and why.

Industrial designer Ti Chang had an idea. She wanted to change the way women experienced self-pleasure. In 2008, Ti took all of her savings and her idea of designer/wearable vibrators to China for production -- at that time the idea was called Incoqnito. While she was shopping her product around, she met entrepreneur Michael Topolovac who owned CRAVE and acquired Ti's company.
Since teaming up with CRAVE, Ti has designed a line of luxury sex toys for women. She is passionate about evolving the conversation around pleasure to being less of a stigma and using design as activism.
It was enlightening for us to speak with Ti about industrial design. There are not a lot of women in this field and we learned a lot about how male-dominated product design is -- including sex toys made for women.
We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did and please follow Ti here.

We're taking you back to Sundance 2020 with a conversation about Be Water, a documentary on the life of Bruce Lee. Director Bao Nguyen and producer Julia Nottingham discuss Bruce Lee's experiences in San Francisco, sifting through the incredible amounts of archival footage, and America's treatment of Asians. This is a wonderful documentary that digs deeper into the life of a man who represents so much more than just martial arts.
Be Water premieres on June 7th on ESPN

We are in a collective grief around the world and wanted to chat with a couple of our friends of the show - Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist Lindsay Repko and Director of Programming for Reimagine End of Life, Dara Kosberg.
We've had an unbelievable ride of guests during SIP but we wanted to take a pause and address the collective loss and grief the world is going through right now. We welcomed back to the show San Francisco Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist Lindsay Repko and Director of Programming for Reimagine End Of Life Dara Kosberg to share their experiences in their work during the pandemic and how they are coping through their own loss and grief. It's a powerful conversation at the right time.

Nisha Ganatra has been an advocate for women in the entertainment industry from the jump. Her feature debut Chutney Popcorn received the Reframe Stamp of approval, and she's currently working with NBC on Female Forward, a female director mentorship program. We discuss the difficulties of hiring a female crew, why we need allies, and the importance of sharing stories about women lifting each other up (ie: Late Night and The High Note). We also dive into the score for The High Note (spoiler: it's so good!), and how being Diana Ross' daughter made it hard for Tracee Ellis Ross to share her gift of song.
Ange tries to get more info on Nisha's time as drummer in a Brooklyn garage band named The Flying Guacamoles, but apparently there's no archival footage. If you're out there and you have some footage of her drummer years, hit us up!
The High Note is streaming on Amazon Prime, Apple, Vudu, Google Play, Fandango, and Xfinity.

Welcome to part 2 of our conversation with the amazing Evelyn Obamos, Filmmaker & Creator Strategy Operations Manager at Pinterest.
One of the upsides to recording from home is the potential for surprise guests! As a Bitch Talk Podcast first, Evelyn's boyfriend, Jeremiah, joins the conversation to discuss how they met at Pinterest, and what makes their relationship unique. Seriously folks, these two are made for each other, and their story is a hilarious and beautiful tale. We don't want to give anything away, but the term "risk assessment" was used multiple times at the start of their relationship. Ahh, to be young and in love...
