A war of words is raging between political economist Phumlani M. Majozi and ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba. In this interview with BizNews, Majozi responds to yesterday’s interview with Mashaba in which he revealed that he had consulted lawyers over social media posts made by Majozi. In our interview, we ask Majozi whether he really believes that there is “not a single black politician” in the country “who stands for basic traditional values of hard work, personal responsibility, stronger business productivity, stronger families, law and order”. We also also ask him why he labelled us at BizNews “clowns” after the Mashaba interview aired.

Speaking to Alec Hogg on this morning's BizNews Briefing podcast, STANLIB's chief economist Kevin Lings urged swift government action following South Africa’s medium-term budget update, citing low growth projections, high debt, and the need to capitalise on recent optimism. While supportive of public-private partnerships for infrastructure, Lings warns that delayed efforts could waste the nation’s current window of opportunity for economic improvement.

In a conversation with Alec Hogg, Marius Roodt from the Institute for Race Relations discusses surprising shifts in South Africa’s local by-elections. With record-breaking voter support for the DA in Stellenbosch and Emalahleni, and an unexpected win for the Patriotic Alliance in George, these results reveal changing voter loyalties. Roodt delves into the role of proportional representation and its impact on both national and local politics.

In this episode of the BizNews Briefing, host Alec Hogg is joined by global entrepreneur and self-described ‘capitalist activist’ Rob Hersov; the IRR’s Marius Roodt; Stanlib chief economist Kevin Lings; and with insight into the Microsoft results, our partners at Bloomberg.

Jason Welz, head of crypto at Jaltech, provided insights into Bitcoin’s recent surge, cautioning investors about its volatility.
