We really enjoyed our time with Dorian and talked about him off air to say how humble of a spirit he has . You can hear it in his voice that he has just a softness, and true empathy for people and their mental well-being . A college grad, Dorian plans to go to graduate school for the fall semester to take up Mental Health Counseling! Man, this is awesome! An author of 4 books (website and information below), Dorian often credits his parents and the elderly wisdom surrounding him during his youth . He spoke on the disconnect behind that in todays time and how the elderly of today are so far off from the youth of tomorrow . A father of 3 young kings , and the youngest child of 8 siblings , Dred vents the grief he has experienced in his life … and just how tough it is to move through life holding that in his heart. His father and youngest brother, unfortunately transitioned 7 years apart from each other . Dred vents about how even when you figure out how to mentally maneuver from one situation, it seems there’s always another . But what helps him most … is being around his kids 🙏🏽

He vents about how it’s important that his children see him succeed, as well as fail in life . So that his boys know to never expect no one else to pick them up when they fall. Teaching them to be strong, stand tall, and know that they are kings. Man … this is a good episode, don’t miss this blessing!

Speaking of voting … we took the time to bring to our show another one of the mayoral candidates in Nashville. She surely needs no introduction, but we are more than excited to have the one and only Vivian Wilhoite on the pod! Mrs. Vivian comes to the podcast to vent a little bit about how a campaign process can challenge your mental health in so many ways. But she truly vents behind how she knows without doubt she is equipped for the mayoral position. Nashville Davidson County voters have twice chosen Vivian to serve as the city’s Assessor of Property, a position in which she currently serves, making her the city’s first African American Assessor of Property and Tennessee’s third African American Assessor of Property  in the state’s history. Vivian also served two terms on the Nashville Metro Council from 2003-2011, representing Southeast District 29.

Leon Davis, Jr. is good friends with Larry (Vivian’s Husband), and Johnathon is good friends with Pherius (Vivian’s oldest son), so it’s just a good ole fashion conversation amongst family on todays show. Tune in! And GO VOTE TOMORROW NASHVILLE!

She was elected Council Member at At-Large for Davidson County in 2015, believing Nashville must be a place where everyone can enjoy economic growth and opportunity. Sharon won re-election in 2019, as the number-one vote getter for Council in Nashville. With an undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University, along with a graduate degree from Belmont University, Sharon has built a reputation as a leader and advocate for residents of all of Nashville’s communities.

By way of virtual, we have a great episode for you guys today. A young man by the name of Sean Wilson, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, joins us on today’s show with a DEEP story and background . He hits us with some cold hard facts , check this out :

Sean says,

“America represents 5% of the world’s population. But we incarcerate 25% of OUR (black) population”

“At any given moment in America , we have over 2 million people in prison or in some type of incarcerated setting. 42% of that population happens to be black.”

Sean Wilson is the CEO and Founder of Dream.Org : an organization that collaborates with individuals who have been directly or indirectly impacted with the criminal Justice system, to reduce the footprint of mass incarceration . Where did this passion come from ? Sean Wilson became an advocate of mass incarceration because at one point, he was a victim of it. Mr. Wilson, at the age of 17 years old, committed a crime and as a result … was sentenced to a total of 50 years in Wisconsin State Prison.

That statement alone is more than enough reason for you to listen to today’s episode .

Hailing from New York City, Tim Gittens is recognized all over the world for his contributions to the game of basketball, whether playing or coaching. Gittens had an opportunity to play in the NBA and also dominated on teams in the USBL, ABA, China, Iran, Puerto Rico, and England.

Mr. Gittens vents today about having to be validated and accepted for the skills you already have as a black man. He talked about how it’s our own people that sometimes will shun us, disown us, or rob us from an opportunity to excel in our lives . Headache knew , however , that his faith is what led him out of those circles and into new ones . But he vented heavily on how we can be rewarded, have accolades, and truly be walking in God’s purpose for your life … but the support becomes damaging. We get torn down for “winning” or achieving in our own communities, but if we are living the various negative stereotypes that’s held above us, we oddly enough find a way to support that negativity .
