Bleav in Wizards

In all likelihood, the Wizards have locked themselves in for a top-10 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Jahadi White and Matt Modderno break down their lottery odds and just how good of a pick they could realistically get. They also cover Tommy Sheppard's desire to add Marcin Gortat to the coaching staff in a greater role in the future, what it's like playing on a team that's going to be in the lottery, and have an honest convo about the role of gambling in the NBA. Jahadi shows some love to Deni Avdija, Corey Kispert, and Jordan Goodwin. Plus, they discuss where the heck is Isaiah Todd right now? They close by previewing the Wizards final 3 games and provide details on a fan meet-and-greet event Jahadi will be participating in during the Wizards game on 4/7. Make sure to check it out if you'd like a chance to meet Jahadi in person! https://www.nba.com/wizards/news/wizards-celebrate-fan-appreciation-night-on-april-7

Matt Modderno is joined by Greg Finberg (@GregFinberg) of the WizardsWave blog to touch on all of the relevant Wizards-related news items. They start by discussing the teams' peaks and valleys in terms of record over the last 20 years and how they're aiming too low with their current approach to build a successful team. Bill Simmons recently blasted the Wizards as being the dumbest franchise in the league so Greg and Matt weigh in on that. They each give their perspectives on Chris Miller's comments directed at fans who want the team to lose their remaining games. Bradley Beal is apparently being investigated for assaulting a fan so they offer their thoughts on that as well. They close the show by discussing whether a Bradley Beal for Jaylen Brown trade is at all realistic. Jahadi White and Matt Modderno talk about the Wizards' recent choice to soft tank for the remainder of the NBA season. The guys lay out their plans for how to improve the team for next season, especially how to supercharge their offense. The Wizards three-point offense and defense has been lacking, especially lately, so that's a large focus of the conversation. They discuss the most important position to upgrade in the offseason and the draft prospect who best helps address that need. Jahadi helps read between the lines of Kyle Kuzma's recent comments about his impending free agency. Should the Wizards invest heavily to bring him back? Tune in to find out!

The Wizards gave a disappointing performance in a loss to the Orlando Magic and are now 3.5 games out of the last play-in spot. Will Clayton (@WillCIayton) joins Matt Modderno for a live postgame reaction podcast in what is hopefully a very relatable conversation for all Wizards fans. They discuss whether the Wizards are actually trying to soft tank, and if so, why wouldn't they play people like Johnny Davis more minutes. Will and Matt offer their perspective on how it feels to be a fan of this team when you can't really understand what they're trying to do or what the plan is for the future. Both of them feel conflicted about wanting the team to lose games but also aren't upset that the team's draft lottery odds are improving. Plus, Will and Matt give their takes on the recent play of Deni Avdija. Feel free to share your thoughts with us about the team and this season either on social media (@bleavinwizards) or via email ([email protected]). This is a safe space to let it all out. We sure did!

Jahadi White and Matt Modderno review the Wizards' recent losing streak. They identify issues with their defensive gameplans and their stagnant fourth quarter offense. They also address Kyle Kuzma's comments about their offensive woes and discuss ways to get him more involved and easier looks. Deni Avdija and Daniel Gafford have both been up and down this season so that also deserved some analysis. Plus, a little love for Corey Kispert. They close the show with a preview of the next four Wizards games and NCAA tournament predictions.

Capital City Go-Go insider Wayne Cole (@waynec0le) joins Matt Modderno for an update on the Wizards' G League affiliate. Wayne recently traveled to Las Vegas to watch the team take on Scoot Henderson and the G League Ignite so he talks about his trip. We do deep dives into the recent play of Johnny Davis and Isaiah Todd and what their experience in the G League has been like. Wayne also gives updates on (relatively) newer members of the team like Jules Bernard, Trevion Williams, and Jay Huff. We close with a rapid fire on each member of the Go-Go roster so that everyone gets a little love on this episode. If you're at all curious about the Go-Go, who is most likely to get called up to the Wizards next, or what it's like to cover a G League team, you won't want to miss this candid convo with Wayne.

On this episode, Jahadi White and Matt Modderno break down the Wizards' recent games against the Raptors and Bucks. We dissect their defensive gameplan against the Bucks and talk through how they could vary their offensive approach to keep Kristaps Porzingis more engaged throughout and lighten the load on Bradley Beal down the stretch of games. The Wizards need to vary their offense and keep the ball moving and we have some thoughts on how they can better do that. We also cover which players need to step up for them to make the play-in. Jahadi also provides a really great perspective on the whole Ja Morant situation that would be interesting for any NBA fans to hear. Plus, Matt interviews Jacob Doole of The Pick and Roll, an Australian basketball website, to get the scoop on new Wizard Xavier Cooks, who currently plays for the Sydney Kings. Matt Modderno is joined by Eric Aaronson (@EricAaronson) in this episode to discuss the latest personnel moves the Wizards have made including waiving Vernon Carey Jr., adding Jay Huff on a two-way contract, and signing Jamaree Bouyea to a 10-day contract. Do any of these moves really move the needle? We break down each move, what the Wizards really need to do to improve their roster long term, and their lack of a top option at the point guard position. We give our perspectives on the overall fan experience this season and why it's hard to get really excited for this particular team despite like a lot of the individual pieces. Eric provides some really good insight on the Wizards' team-building philosophy and how it doesn't exactly match up with where the league is going. We also talk about Stateside Vodka, the official beverage of the podcast and where Eric works, and why it's the perfect drink for Wizards fans.
