  • Post-Game: Liverpool's 44-game unbeaten Premier League run ended by Watford
Welcome to the first Post-Game podcast since January 3, 2019 that's reacting to a Premier League defeat for Liverpool. Yes, the Reds went down fair and square, 3-0 at Watford tonight, to see their 44-match unbeaten league run come to an end. It has to be placed in context. Jurgen Klopp’s side have been nothing short of magnificent this season and it's only a matter of time before they get their hands on the title. But there’s no getting away from it – it was a very bad night at the office. And that much is underlined with the views from the pressbox, the dugout and the stands that you’re about to hear. • Football finance expert Kieran Maguire on what Liverpool can do this summer - and why they'll never have a better chance to knock City and U
Liverpool this week released a summary of their annual accounts, which showed a record £533m turnover, and a pre-tax profit of £42m, despite the fact the club spent £223m on players. So armed with those headline figures, Paul Wheelock picks up the phone to leading football finance expert Kieran Maguire to see what this will mean for the Reds' summer transfer business, and whether it could bring an end to the financial dominance enjoyed by the Manchester clubs, United and City, in the Premier League. And, naturally, with City being Liverpool's main rivals on the pitch, Kieran also provides a fascinating insight into the Etihad outfit's upcoming legal battle with UEFA after they were banned from European club competitions for two years. • Breaking news: Liverpool smash £500m mark in stunning financial results
Liverpool have announced a record £533m turnover after a stunning season that saw the club claim their sixth European Cup. The Reds have released their annual accounts for the year ending May 31 2019 – one day before the famous Champions League final win over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid – which show turnover rose by £78m to £533m. That represents sustained growth across the club (the 2018 accounts recorded a £455m turnover) and enabled the further investment into a playing squad that won the Champions League and came desperately close to lifting the Premier League title. Match revenue (£3.5m to £84m), commercial revenue (£34m to £188m) and media revenue (£41m to £261m) were all up with Liverpool posting an overall pre-tax profit of £42m. And here, the Liverpool ECHO’s Sean Bradbury looks over the financial results. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
