  • Post-Game: Unlikely hero Divock Origi wins Liverpool the Merseyside derby in the most dramatic of fashion
    Wow, just wow.
Liverpool won the Merseyside derby 1-0 at Anfield this afternoon thanks to a 96th-minute winner from the unlikeliest of heroes, Divock Origi.
The super-sub's header settled the contest as the Reds extended their unbeaten record at home to their rivals Everton to 19 matches.
Importantly, it ensured they closed to gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to two points.

The podcast kicks off with the verdict of our Liverpool FC correspondent James Pearce.

  • The lowdown from both sides of Stanley Park in our special Merseyside derby preview
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise - the Merseyside derby is still the big game for Liverpool and Everton supporters.
And, with the 232nd meeting between the sides just hours away, we've produced a special preview podcast for both our Blood Red and Royal Blue listeners.
Host Paul Wheelock speaks to Adam Jones, the ECHO's Everton FC reporter, and Paul Gorst, one of our football journalists, and who provides the Liverpool perspective.
The mood in both camps, the importance of history, the pros and cons of throwing in new signings, and the players to watch out for are discussed by both Gorsty and Adam.
They also reveal which player they'd like to make the move across Stanley Park - and sign for Liverpool from Everton, and vice versa - before giving their predictions.
Enjoy - and we'll be back after the match with our Post-Game podcast. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

  • Poetry in Motion: Looking for Liverpool's spark amid the new-found steel and midfield derby dilemmas
Two days before the Merseyside derby, illness and unavailability has ravaged the ECHO's sportsdesk. That means just Paul Wheelock was able to join Neil Fitzmaurice on the latest Poetry in Motion podcast - and even he is battling a severe case of man flu.
But worry not, Fitzy is in fine form, and as anyone who read his tweets during and after the Champions League defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, he has a lot to get off his chest.
It's not an over-reaction on his part to what was another disappointing European awayday - for some time he's wondered when Liverpool will begin to play with the same verve they did in the second half of last season.
The Reds are undoubtedly now better in defence - the arrival of Alisson Becker and the rapid development of Joe Gomez, aligned with the influence of Virgil van Dijk, has made sure of that - but why are they struggling to fire truly in the final third?
Is it tactics? Is it form? Is it the failing of existing players or the ones who came in during the summer?
Fitzy and Paul try to find answers to those questions while all the time placing Liverpool's 'problems' in the context of their lofty position in the Premier League table.
It is a position they will look to improve upon this weekend with victory over neighbours Everton.
And Fitzy and Paul ask whether the derby is the right game for Naby Keita and Fabinho to be thrown into - and whether it could be the perfect one for the Reds to rediscover their spark. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

  • Post-Game: Liverpool pay price for first-half no-show in Paris as Champions League hopes go down to the wire
So it will all come down to Napoli at Anfield on December 11.
Beat Carlo Ancelotti's side 1-0 or by two clear goals and Liverpool will definitely take their place in the Champions League knock-out stages.
But they will have to improve on the performance they produced in the first half of their 2-1 defeat at Paris-Saint Germain.
A James Milner penalty on the stroke of half-time gave the Reds a lifeline.
But it was one they could not grasp as they suffered a third straight away defeat in the group stages of the Champions League for the first time.
The Post-Game podcast kicks off, as ever, with the definitive match verdict from our Liverpool FC correspondent James Pearce.
You will then hear the highlights from what was a very interesting Jurgen Klopp press conference.
And the podcast rounds off with the thoughts of six Liverpool fans who have phoned into the show to have their say. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
