    • Anurag Rana, Senior Tech Analyst for Bloomberg Intelligence, Meta Platforms is finally seeing the stock breakout that beleaguered bulls had been banking on. The Facebook parent’s shares had jumped 36% in September through Thursday’s close following the release of its Muse personal AI assistant, which has risen quickly to the top of app charts and muffled concerns that heavy spending on AI won’t pay off. The stock is on pace for its best month since July 2013 and within striking distance of joining an elite group of companies worth at least $2 trillion.

    Wall Street traders drove stocks to the lowest since July on bets the Federal Reserve will keep raising rates to combat inflation after delivering its first hike in three years.

    In his remarks to reporters, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh restated his concerns over inflation, saying too many categories of products and services were showing annualized price gains above 3% on a 6- and 12-month basis.

    The Federal Reserve raised interest rates by a quarter percentage point and penciled in an additional hike later this year, steps aimed at containing inflation that will test Chairman Kevin Warsh’s relationship with President Donald Trump.

    “Today’s policy action will support a timelier return to the committee’s 2% goal,” officials said in a statement following the move Wednesday, referring to inflation. It was the US central bank’s first rate increase since July 2023.
