The best rivalry in the NBA is renewed in this absolute rollercoaster of a game but the Celtics edged out the Lakers 122-118 in OT. The Celtics came out of the gate with excellent ball and player movement and looked like their unstoppable selves in that first quarter where we shot 7-11 from 3 with 11 assists on 14 field goals made. We continued the great play through the half and the wheels fell off in the third where we were outscored 32-23 followed by 28-22 in the 4th. The cutting to the rim stopped and we reverted back to iso ball. We watched a 20pt lead turn into a 13pt deficit thanks in large part to a 32-5 Lakers run but the Celtics never gave up.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart came up with clutch shot after clutch shot none bigger than Jayson Tatums fadeaway mid range over Lebron to force OT. Tatum had another MVP performance with 44pts 9reb and 6ast while his running mate Jaylen Brown finally got some love on national tv. He was super efficient tonight as well scoring 25pts while also adding 15reb and 5ast! As much as some fans were calling for Marcus Smart's head in this because he did take some horrible shots, he was as clutch as anyone. He made big play after big play and hit a couple massive shots but his steal on the inbounds play with the layup to bring the game to 8 was a massive energy shift. This was certainly not a perfect game but the Celtics pulled it off and wrap up their 6 game road trip at 4-2 which is exactly what I predicted when this thing started. Now the Celtics go home to a 7 game home stand!

After an extremely disheartening loss to the Warriors, the Celtics come out and get embarrassed against the Clippers. Similar to the game against the Warriors, this was not Celtics basketball. The ball wasn't moving and our 3s weren't falling. On top of that, the only time the Celtics played defense with any sense of urgency was when it was far too late and they were already down by 20+. Both of the Jays struggled to find a rhythm in this one. JB found himself in foul trouble and Tatum had another inefficient game from the field. There were two bright spots in this game and it was the play of Malcolm Brogdon and Grant Williams.

Malcolm Brogdon continues his 6th Man of the Year campaign with another solid performance with 18pts 4reb 6ast. Grant Williams, who has had a tough stretch, came out aggressive in this one and ended with a 14pt game. Outside of the poor play all around, one thing really bothered me about this game and it was the rotations from Mazzulla. The Celtics found themselves down 24 early in the 4th quarter and instead of pulling our starters, he rolled with them and played them far too many minutes especially considering this is the front end of a back to back. This is, yet again, another ugly loss and the second time all season with 2 straight losses. The last time we lost back to back games, the Celtics followed it up with a 15-2 record over our next 17 games. Can they start another solid winning streak tomorrow against the Lakers?

The Celtics lose the NBA Finals Rematch against the Golden State Warriors 123-107. This was a tough one to swallow. After an emotional loss in the Finals last year, every Celtics fan had this game circled on their calendar because they wanted revenge but that is not what they got in this one. Besides an All Star caliber performance from JB (31pts 9reb) this was really a dud all around. We saw Blake Griifin and Malcolm Brogdon play solid throughout most of this game but Blake definitely struggled defensively and without Horford once again, Kornet also was a revolving door on the defensive end.

Jayson Tatum was the big disappointment in this one as he scored only 18pts on 6-21 (28%) from the field and 2-9 (22%) from 3. He is still having an MVP caliber season which makes this game even more frustrating given the competition. The Celtics are 21-6 and have became one of the most feared offenses in history because of their incredible ball movement and 3pt shooting and neither of those showed up in this one. We ended the game with only 17ast and only shot 30% from 3 in this one. On top of that, we gave up 19 fast break pts and 11 offensive rebounds. This entire game was so off brand from the Celtics team that we have seen all season long so take it with a grain of salt. We came into a 6 game road trip against very stiff competition and stand at 3-1 so far which is a win. I understand being upset about losing to the team that beat you in the Finals but this is one loss and we are still the #1 team in the NBA. We just need to focus on one game at a time so we are on to the Clippers on Monday night and hope to start a new winning streak.

The Celtics destroy the Suns 125-98!!! This game was close for the first 5 minutes but as soon as the Suns subbed out Chris Paul, the Celtics went on an 18-3 run and never looked back. We went on to outscore the Suns 38-21 in the 2nd and 35-23 in the 3rd. The Celtics had a 45pt lead in this one and we were lucky enough to keep all of our starters under 30 minutes giving them some rest in this grueling 6 game road trip. There isn't a single negative to talk about in this game so let's talk some positives.

JB came out here once again proving he is an All NBA guy. Tatum played like an MVP candidate. Smart and White were both brilliant defensively. Blake Griffin was hitting 3 after 3. Brogdon played like a true 6th Man of the Year. Grant put the ball on the floor really well and shot 6-6 from the field tonight. Kornet was phenomenal once again with 12pts on 6-6 from the field. The Celtics were moving the ball as well as keeping care of the ball as they tallied 29ast and only 13 turnovers. This was a beautiful win against a really good team in Phoenix! The Celtics are now 21-5 and play again on Saturday in an NBA Finals Rematch against the Golden State Warriors.

The Celtics win this one 116-110 over the Toronto Raptors. This was a game with 2 surprising heroes. On the second night of a back to back, Blake Griffin once again collected the start and came up huge alongside other big Luke Kornet. Blake Griffin scored 13pts alongside 8 rebounds and had the game icing putback to go up 7 with 26.8 seconds left but was great throughout the entire game. Luke Kornet was also super efficient in this one scoring 11pts including 2 alley oops from JB and a putback of his own. As good as they were, we also had excellent performances from both Jays and Smart as well.

Tatum led the way scoring and rebounding with 31 and 12 rebounds while JB led the way with 8ast alongside his 22pts and 8reb. Marcus Smart also contributed 18pts 7ast on a super efficient 7-14 from the field and 4-8 from 3. This was far from a perfect game as they were down 62-56 at half while shooting 30% from 3 and giving up 16 fastbreak pts alongside 9 turnovers HOWEVER the Energy Shifted in the second half. After 9 turnovers in the first half, they only turned the ball over 2 times in the second half. After allowing 16 first half fastbreak pts, they allowed only 4 in the second half. After shooting just 30% from 3 in the first half, they shot 43% in the second half. Its not a perfect game of basektball but it was a damn good second half of basketball and that was all it took to win our 20th game of the season!

The Celtics beat the Nets 103-92 on an impressive night from Jaylen Brown. This was probably one of our worst offensive performances of the year but, fortunately for us, it was also probably our best defensive game of the year. Jaylen Brown started the game scorching hot and scored 20pts on 6-7 from the field and 5-5 from 3 in the first quarter and ended the game with 34pts 10reb 2ast 2stl and 4blk all while turning the ball over 0 times! It was the most complete game we have seen from JB in a long time and it was much needed because while his running mate Tatum did score 29pts in this one, he turned the ball over 9 times and was not himself.

The two glaring issues to me in this game were the turnovers and the ball movement. With no Marcus Smart, the offense was not itself. The ball and player movement was almost non-existent as we only tallied 18ast which is 9 shy of our season average. We also turned the ball over 17 times allowing 18pts off those turnovers as well. On most nights where you see that stat line, it results in a loss. Tonight, however, the defense stepped up and also forced 15 turnovers including 8 from Durant. This was, in my opinion, the best we have looked defensively all year and it came against one of the best basketball players in the world in Kevin Durant. Mazzulla came into this game ready to double team Kevin Durant over and over and it worked beautifully in this one forcing tough shot and tough play all night long and ultimately was too much. This is a good win and a great way to start our 6 game road trip! Celtics play again tomorrow night against the Toronto Raptors.

The Celtics lose to the Miami Heat 120-116 in OT. This was a game the Celtics had no business being remotely close in. The Celtics shot 33% from 3, turned the ball over 20 times resulting in 21pts, gave up 12 offensive rebounds and watched Tatum score just 14pts along with 5turnovers on 5-18 from the field and 0-7 from 3. This is a game that the Celtics should have gotten run out of the building so the fact that they took this to OT and only lost by 4 is pretty impressive. That statement is not me sugar coating things. This was a very ugly game through and through but the end result given how ugly of a game it was is reason enough not to freak out.

Part of why we were even in this game was the outstanding play of Jaylen Brown who scored 37pts alongside 14reb and 5ast. He was phenomenal in this one hitting big shot after big shot including one of the most electric 3pt shots right before the buzzer to force OT. JB caught the inbounds a good 8ft behind the 3pt line deep in the corner and nailed it with 1.6sec left. Grant Williams was another one that came up big for the Celtics with the great backdoor cut and dunk to tie the game with 2:28 left and then hitting that big stepback 3 to go up 1 with a 1:16 left. Those were by far the two best games tonight and large reasons that the Celtics were even in this one. Unfortunately though, the Celtics lose their 3rd OT game this season and fall to 18-5 on the season but still hold a 2 game lead over Milwaukee after their loss tonight as well.

Jayson Tatum scores 49 POINTS in this 134-121 win over the Miami Heat. There is absolutely nothing Tatum couldn't do in this one. On top of his 49pts, he also chipped in 11reb and shot 15-25 from the field, 8-12 from 3 and 11-12 from the FT line. On top of that, he was also playing excellent defense and hustling for balls left and right including a play where he dove to the floor, ripped the ball out of Bam's hands and got it to White for a dunk. Tatum was simply sensational in this one.

We also saw some solid performances from other guys. While JB really struggled with turnovers and was in foul trouble, he contributed 26pts with 11 of those coming in the 4th quarter so he played a huge role down the stretch. Malcolm Brogdon and Derrick White were fantastic throughout this game as well. Brogdon seemed to make the right play over and over and ended the game with 21pts on 5-7 from 3. Derrick White made a couple huge defensive stops and ended the game with 15pts and 5ast. Smart continued a really good stretch of basketball while also adding in 10pts 5reb and a team leading 9ast. The ball movement continued to be spectacular in this one as we racked up 32ast on 46 makes which is ridiculously impressive in a game where Tatum scored 49pts. Celtics rolled to 18-4 and remain in 1st Place in the Eastern Conference.

The Celtics decimate the Hornets 140-105 in this one. The Hornets didn't stand a chance in this one from the start. The Celtics outscored the Hornets 45-19 in the first quarter in one of the most impressive offensive performances I have ever seen. The Celtics shot 10-15 from 3 and assisted on 13 of their 17 made field goals and shot 73.9% from the field and 66% from 3. Every part of that is absolutely insane and while the percentages clearly had to worsen throughout the game, they still shot 59% from the field and 46% from 3 in this one and continue to play like the best team in the league.

Jayson Tatum was phenomenal in this one scoring 35 and getting to the rim with ease but Marcus Smart stole the show (literally and figuratively) for me. Smart scored 22pts but added in 15ast and was getting everyone involved early and often. People may complain that he took 9 3pt attempts in this one but he hit 6 of them (66%) and pretty much every one of them was wide open because the ball movement from this team is on another level. With Horford out, Blake Griffin got the start and he played a phenomenal game as well and so did Kornet. The recap would be 5 pages long if I talked about everyone so I'll wrap it here. Everyone on this team played great tonight. The Celtics play again on Wednesday night against the Miami Heat.

The Celtics destroy the Wizards 130-121 in this game without Jayson Tatum. Some people will ask, why are you saying we destroyed them if we only won by 9? The Celtics led this game by as many as 26 and we had garbage minutes in the third quarter of this one. Although the all bench lineup did get crushed in this one forcing Mazzulla to put his starters back in, it did allow them to get some much needed rest. JB led the team in minutes with just 34 which is huge on the front end of a back to back. Before anyone wants to get upset about the way we played in that 4th quarter getting outscored 33-17, please think about the lineup we had out there. It was an all bench lineup playing against starters. That rotation will NEVER happen when it counts and as soon as Joe subbed our starters back in, the lead ballooned back up to 17.

JB really led the charge in this one with 36pts but the way he was scoring is what got me most excited. Instead of going iso all game with Tatum not playing, he actually let guys like Smart, Brogdon and White run the offense and he got the majority of points off of beautiful cuts or getting directly to the rim. This is the type of offense that is sustainable with a fully healthy roster. We saw a lot of great performances tonight which led to us having 7 guys with 10+ pts which tied our season high. Despite not having Tatum, this was another excellent game for the Celtics as they improve to 16-4 and now hold a 2 game lead over the Bucks for 1st and are the only team in the NBA with a winning percentage of .800!
