It's no longer Dame Time in Portland. Celtics come out with a huge victory against a solid Trailblazers team that has been playing great basketball. Tatum was driving, Kemba was facilitating, Smart was defending and JB went to his mid range more often. Overall, this was a great offensive game. We could've used some serious help off the bench which is where we miss a guy like Fournier but this is a huge win. Winning this game moves us into 5th place in the Eastern Conference just 1 GB Atlanta. We have another 2 tough games this week against the Lakers and the Warriors so this is our time to extend the winning streak and make a push for that 4 seed.

This was far from pretty to start but for one of few times this year, when the Celtics faced adversity, we fought back. The Celtics went on a 40-8 run including their 31-8 4th quarter performance and came out with the win. The Denver Nuggets were the hottest team in the NBA winning 7 straight games since acquiring Aaron Gordon and were beating teams by an average of 11 PPG in that stretch. With that being said, the Celtics came out missing, seemingly, every single shot they took from deep. We were 2-17 from deep in the first half and Marcus Smart was the only Celtics player to hit a three. We dug ourselves in a pretty big hole in the start of the third and absolutely went off from there. This was one of the most energetic halves of basketball we have seen all season long and is a huge win against a really tough team. The Celtics still have their work cut out for them on this road trip but if we can play with similar energy as our second half tonight, we can add to this winning streak and move up the standings as we're only 1 GB the 4 seed.

TATUM TATUM AND MORE TATUM. He went off for 53 points, 10 rebounds and added in 4 assists. This was probably his most complete and efficient offensive game we have seen from him in his career. The part that I loved the most was him getting to the line at ease as he goes 15-16 from there. Let's be honest, this game was ugly from the start but as I said last game, at this part of the season, it doesn't matter. A win is a win and we need as many of them as we can get. It sucks that it took till OT to put the Timberwolves away but you take what you can get at this point. We've got a tough road stretch coming up starting on Sunday so buckle in and let's get something started here.

No Kemba and Fournier tonight put the Celtics in a tough spot and we got to see Romeo Langford get his first start of the season. Although Romeo played a solid game tonight, it was the two Jays that carried the offensive load scoring 57 of the 101 points for the Celtics. We've all given Marcus Smart our fair share of shit this season and I know people are going to say that 4-11 from the field is terrible but he came up clutch tonight scoring 12pts in the 4th quarter and also added 9 assists as well as 6-6 from the FT line. We needed every bit of that tonight! 

Looking at the offense tonight, we saw the Celtics revert back to iso ball for quite a bit of the game and it did seriously hinder the offensive output. The difference tonight was that JB and Tatum were hitting their shots. If either of them struggled, like they have lately, we would've gotten blown out tonight. They need to be more consistent driving and dishing to open teammates. Moving the ball certainly gets harder when you don't have Kemba and Fournier on the floor to hit shots but it also doesn't mean you should move away from good basketball. I really do think the Celtics played a good defensive game tonight especially on Randle. We forced him into a lot of really tough spots and he did make some great passes to get out of some jams but we also forced him into some tough shots (9-23 from the field) and forced 3 turnovers. This is the type of defensive energy that we need more consistently. It's certainly still a long road but we take on the Timberwolves on Friday so we need to take advantage of this opportunity to start another winning streak.

Celtics lose a tough one against Philly and the storyline of today's game is turnovers. Celtics committed 22 turnovers and it killed us. The most frustrating part is that a lot of them weren't forced by Philly. It was just sloppy play. The Celtics came out hot shooting 5-9 from deep early and then couldn't get anything else going. Like Brad had said a couple games ago, when we face adversity we nose dive and today was a good example of that. We played a decent first quarter despite having 7 turnovers but ultimately stopped driving to the lane and dishing out for good shots and relied to heavily on iso ball once again and it killed the rhythm of the offense. 

The bottom line is, this team needs to move the ball better collectively. I know Embiid clogs up the lane and Philly is an extremely long and versatile defensive unit but we drove and dished just fine in the first quarter so we know that it's possible to do but they once again reverted back to old habits and tried to rely on iso ball. Not having Fournier certainly hurts by putting more scoring pressure on the Jays and consistently having guys on the injury report makes it impossible to build any continuity but we're at a point in the season where excuses are useless. We need to start putting together wins and moving up the standings. Tomorrow is certainly going to be a hard game to bounce back against the Knicks with no Kemba and no Fournier.
