The Celtics fall short in a gun fight with the Trail Blazers and watched JB and Tatum go to the locker room late. In a game where it seemed like every whistle went the other way, the Celtics fought hard to battle back. Outside of getting screwed by a bunch of calls, including a Smart ejection, the Celtics really struggled to contain their big three in Dame, McCollum and Powell as they combined for 82 points. There was certainly a fair share of gloom in tonight's loss but there were certainly some bright spots as well. Both of our rookies, Pritchard and Nesmith, played excellent basketball and gave the bench a real lift as they combined for 29 points. We also saw a standout performance by Fournier who scored 21 points on 8-10 shooting. It's obviously too early to say he's back because its only been 1 game but this is the first time since returning from Covid that he even remotely looked like himself. With tonight's loss, the Celtics fall into a play in game position so we certainly have an uphill battle in our remaining 7 games.

After being booed off the court at halftime down 77-48, the Celtics came out with a vengeance and overcame a 32 point deficit. This was the biggest "Tale Of Two Halves" games I have ever seen. After an abysmal first half where we played absolutely no defense and couldn't score whatsoever (besides Tatum), the Celtics looked like a completely different ball club in the second half. Tatum was a landslide winner of Player of the Game with his 60 point performance which tied Larry Bird for the franchise record for points in a game. The man simply couldn't be stopped and the impressive part was the fact that a lot of his points were from the line or driving to the rim. Outside of Tatum, it really was rookie Aaron Nesmith that played outstanding basketball for the majority of his minutes. He set a career high in points tonight with 16 and had a million and one (might be exaggerating) hustle plays that propelled the Celtics forward in that second half. This was by no means a pretty game or a good win but it is a very impressive win.

In a game where JB and Tatum combined for 73pts, it was rookie Aaron Nesmith that secured the win for us tonight. Nesmith's energy was contagious tonight and it wasn't just his energy but his numbers proved it this time. He chipped in 15pts 9reb 3stl and 3blk including 2 late in the game on Bridges and Wanamaker. Overall, this was a really strong performance offensively. What can you say at this point. I thought the Charlotte game was the worst loss of the season and then they come out and lose to a Thunder team that is on a 14 game losing streak... Yes there was no Kemba, Tatum and Timelord but there is no excuse big enough to lose to this team. Outside of our new big three (JB, Pritchard and Kornet of course) the rest of the team played horrible. JB went off for 39pts 11reb, Pritchard carried the team offensively in several parts of the game with 28pts (career high) 3reb and 4ast and Kornet chipped in a respectable 10pts 7reb 4ast and 3blk. JB and Pritchard shot a combined 8-21 from deep which is a respectable 38% while the rest of the team shot just 3-28 for 10% which is about as bad as I have ever seen. Celtics play against the Hornets tomorrow and honestly, at this point, almost every single game is a must win if we want to keep a shot at the 4/5 seed to avoid playing one of the top 3 teams first round.

This is as bad a loss as it gets and I hate saying that. I always try to find a positive in games but there's not much you can pull from this game. The Hornets outplayed us in every single aspect of the game except for FT attempts. They shot better from the field, better from three, outrebounded us, turned the ball over less and took advantage of turnovers more. As tough of a loss as this is, they need to try and forget it and move forward. There are 11 games left in the season and right now we sit 1.5 games back of the Knicks for the 4 seed but also have the same record as the Heat who sit in the play in tournament so it is safe to say that every single game from here on out is important.
