A proposal to rezone nearly 200 acres in west Brigham City was sent back to the city’s planning commission on Aug. 21 after councilmembers cited the need for more review of the development agreement and planning details, along with concerns raised by residents. The Box Elder County Commission has approved a letter of support for the Bear River Health Department (BRHD) as it seeks to shift substance use treatment from a fee-for-service model to a Medicaid capitation system. “Right now, we’re one of the only regions left in the state that still has a fee-for-service model for substance abuse treatment,” BRHD Director Jordan Mathis told commissioners Aug. 27. A 2023 accident involving a Box Elder County sheriff’s deputy led to a recently approved 0,000 settlement agreement, according to county records and the attorney’s office. The Box Elder County Commission voted July 23 to approve the agreement with Christine Prisbrey and her family, following a closeddoor discussion recommended by Box Elder County Attorney Stephen Hadfield. Brigham City announced five new employees during the Aug. 21 City Council meeting, including two experienced police officers, a city planner, and two staff members in finance. The police department hired Robert Palmer and Kevin Bennett as lateral master officers. A lateral officer is one who transfers from another agency with prior law enforcement experience, rather than entering as a new recruit. The Box Elder County Commission has approved the rezoning of more than 570 acres in the Thatcher area into the county’s newly created Agricultural Heritage Zone, clearing the way for the landowner’s pending application for agricultural protection status.
