  • Podcast: Do Detox Diets Work?
Beyonce’ reportedly used a detox diet to prepare for the movie Dreamgirls. But are you really just starving yourself and making frequent unpleasant trips to the bathroom or will you lose that weight once and for all?
The idea behind detox diets is that your body gets polluted with toxins and pesticides, even sugar and alcohol and doesn’t perform at its best. Followers of detox diets tout results that include feeling better, more energy, better digestion, and weight loss. So, you need to cleanse your body from the burgers, fries, pizza, sausage subs…whatever so-called toxic food you eat…right?
Most detox diets tell you to change the way you eat and eliminate food groups such as meat, dairy, grains and usually sugar and caffeine… all of which supposedly contain “toxins”. A detox diet typically begins with a fast followed by a very strict diet of fruit juice and fruit and some vegetables along with water. Some diets also include the use of herbal laxatives and enemas also known as colon cleansers along with colonic irrigation. These enemas are supposed to clean out the intestine and liver. Why not try the 30 day liver detox from Quicksilver? It’s great fun and above all, your body will love you for it!

  • Podcast: Cuckoo for Coconut
Coconut oil is a cure-all. No… not exactly… but I bet you’ve heard that you need to ditch your olive or canola oil and switch to coconut. Internet buzz promises that coconut oil will burn your belly fat, treat Alzheimer’s disease and change fat levels in your blood. Wait, did I say make your hair shinier and treat yeast infections? So what’s ground zero?
There are two main types of coconut oil… refined and virgin. Refined oil comes from dried coconut meat that’s often chemically bleached. Virgin oil is unrefined and usually a little more expensive. It comes from fresh coconut fruit without using chemicals or high temperatures. Virgin oil is your better choice. Leave refined on the shelf…more in the podcast.
