Put on your swimsuits guys! Finally, summer is on the horizon! I can’t be the only one who’s “excited” this much about it right?
Hey! Don’t mislead people. It’s still early for swimming. You’re definitely not the only one enjoying the warm weather already though. People are outside.. having a picnic.. taking Vitamin D for their bodies. See? It shouldn’t be that early to swim for some!
Yeah not that early if you wanna get sick.
It’s warm enough already. Can’t you hear all these bird songs, see those green trees and the sweat on my forehead?
If I should be happy that you’re sweating, then I will be. But only if you remember to wear some deodorant.
Ha-ha. [a bit annoyed]
Okay.. okay. I know you’ve been looking forward to it since your body functions like a solar panel.
It does indeed! How about you?
Hmm.I’m okay with the warm weather but I should confess at some point when it’s really hot, you can’t make me go out before 6 p.m.
So you prefer to be a night owl instead of enjoying the beach and the sea?
Let’s say I “have to” prefer this. Even my body doesn’t react so well. I go red immediately. What’s the point of stewing outside, when you have an air conditioner at home?
Then you don’t need to worry about my topic today. It’ll give you an air conditioning effect or maybe a “freezer” would be a better word to use.
Hmm. I’m not sure what exactly you chose but I’m all ears.
Let me tell you first how I chose it; so, there’s no doubt the sun is so crucial for living beings like me. You know, lately I have this appetite of going to cold places with almost no proper sun.
True that, Mr. Antarctica.
So It made me think how much I would survive without the sun. what would happen in the long term.
Yeah, all this time we’ve been talking about unique species living all in darkness in the caves and dark places in some parts of the world. Do you think we’d evolve into something else?
If we could survive, maybe. Today I’ll focus on this hypothetical situation and tell what it would be like to live on Earth without the Sun.
Okay, let’s hear that.
So, The sun is the closest star to our planet and of course our life exists thanks to it.
Yeah. The sun beams make it warm enough for organisms to develop and live on.
For example; take plants. They convert the solar energy into chemical one and produce oxygen for us.
Yeah that’s why I’m one of those plant maniacs who adopt one when they go out. I’m in love with them!
If we should remember; nothing, literally nothing in the Universe can travel faster than light, so let’s say if the Sun disappeared, it would take 8 minutes for this good news to reach us.
Why 8 minutes exactly?
Because the sun is 8 light min. away from the Earth. It is the distance that light can travel in a min. I feel so strange that I’m the one giving all these scientific facts but not you.
Hahah. I’m just waiting for my turn. But to put it in a more solid example; If 65 million light years away, there were some advanced creatures with some powerful telescopes, they would be able to see dinosaurs, right?
Exactly! After this escape; even the Sun’s gravitational pull on our planet would continue for 8 minutes though.
So does that mean it would continue orbiting?
