A steward is basically a manager. As such, principles of management often apply to God’s stewards. You will hear Jesus share sharp words with His servants, His stewards, who are lazy. But to you who are faithful and sensible Jesus has great words of encouragement.

As this section of Scripture begins, Peter wants to know from Jesus if He is talking to everybody in general or just to the disciples. Let me remind you that as you read from God’s Word, He is talking to you. These verses pertain to every born-again Child of God, every servant of His, every person He has entrusted with a stewardship. This is how we are to live and serve.

When children play hide-and-seek, the one who is “it” has to cover his eyes, count to some number, and then yell out, “Ready or not, here I come.” In this parable found in Luke 12, Jesus reminds us that He is coming again…whether we are ready or not.

Several years ago, Crystal Lewis popularized a song with this very simple chorus: People get ready, Jesus is comin’ / Soon we’ll be going home // People get ready, Jesus is comin’ / To take from the world His own. In the Parable of the Expectant Steward, Jesus reminds us that He is coming again and that it is our job to be ready.

Jesus doesn’t just tell us not to worry and then abandon us to figure out how to do that on our own. No, here in Luke 12, He gives us very practical help on how to stop worrying and start trusting.

There is not a sin that we excuse ourselves from so freely than that of worry. It is an acceptable sin to us. But if I want to be a growing Christian who pleases the Lord, then I need to repent of my worry and get on with trusting Him in all things. That’s easy to say, but hard to do. And yet difficulty is not an excuse for disobedience, is it?

God hears prayer. God answers prayer. Those simple statements boost my confidence in praying and asking God for my daily needs. Today we will conclude the message on The Provision of Prayer as we study Luke 11:3 of the Model Prayer.
