Bucknuts Morning 5: An Ohio State athletics podcast

Ohio State is in an interesting spot these days. An unquestioned national title contender, the Buckeyes are in the midst of tussles against overmatched foes.

Maryland is awful. Rutgers wishes it was Maryland. So the competitive aspect of this weekend's trip to New Jersey is ... well ... non-existent.

Yet, there is plenty to talk about. Among the topics Duane Long and I cover on today's show:

* Chase Young. How many more games? Does it even matter? Who turned on him?

* PT strategy. How much playing time for the starters on Saturday? Who will emerge? Should travel roster walk-ons get at least 12 hours sleep Friday night?

* Best NFL running back prospect on the roster?

* Ohio State vs. ??? in CFP title game?

* Paris Johnson: Ready as a freshman?

* Tyreke Johnson ... next up?

* Lose weight, get in shape, get paid?

What is the latest on Chase Young? Specifically, how many more games will Ohio State's star junior defensive end miss?

Bill "Bank" Greene joins Dave Biddle to give the answer to that, plus:

What is the latest with 2020 running back recruiting for the Buckeyes? How did Jahmyr Gibbs' visit go this weekend? Could Gibbs perhaps now be trending OSU's way?

Will Ohio State drop to No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings after LSU hammered Alabama?

Should people really be that surprised that Minnesota beat Penn State?

All of that and more is coming at you on the Monday 5ish.

Well, that was quite an interesting Saturday.

It started with the news Chase Young would not be playing against Maryland. That story only took off from there. We get into ... like really get into it.

Ohio State then destroyed visiting Maryland, 73-14, in front of a packed Shoe.

Elsewhere, Joe Burrow did it again, Lovie Smith did it again, and the season outlook nationally got even cloudier.

There's plenty to discuss and we brought in two big-time discussers: Bill Kurelic and Matt Baxendell.

Spend some of your Sunday morning with us, 'Nutters!

Not the way you expected to start your day, huh?

The Chase Young news has ripped through Buckeye Nation and we are still dealing with ourselves.

So ... what happened?

Will Young miss more than Maryland game?

Why now?

Is Ohio State prepared?

Who replaces Young on the field?

Lots of questions and we took a crack at all of them.

Dave Biddle joins me for this emergency edition of the BM5.

It's Friday and that of course means Jonah Booker is here for the Bucknuts Morning 5.

JBook joins Dave Biddle to discuss the College Football Playoff rankings, Ohio State's game tomorrow against visiting Maryland and much more.

The Class of 2020 is nearing completion. But there's a few key spots left ... and you know them: running back(s) and second quarterback. Oh, and Ohio State hosts Maryland this weekend. So there's that.

One running back from Georgia will be here. Is he on flip watch?

Ohio State has offered another quarterback. Does that mean C.J. Stroud is out?

Will Chase Young take a second half snap against his home-state foe?

Can the Fighting P.J. Flecks turn the B1G upside down?

Can Super Joe turn back the Tide?

247Sports Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong is here to share his vibes on all that.

Ohio State is the No. 1 team in the country according to the College Football Playoff rankings which were released Tuesday night.

The People's Champ, Matt Baxendell, joins Dave Biddle to give his reaction on that and all things CFP on a robust version of the Wednesday 5ish.

Ohio State is fresh off a bye week and readying to host Maryland in a return to action.

But there is plenty of action of the field as well:

* The College Football Playoff reveal is tonight at 9 on ESPN. The Buckeyes will one of the top four teams. But where exactly will Ohio State be ranked?

* The dumpster fire that is Florida State football has added some drama to Ohio State recruiting with the decomittment of Jaylon Knighton. Have fences been mended enough for Knighton to once again be a prime Buckeyes target?

* Ohio State's quest for a second quarterback in the Class of 2020 has taken them off the lower 48. Who is now in focus?

Duane Long is here to provide insight on all of that.

The first College Football Playoff rankings of 2019 will be released Tuesday evening and it will be interesting to see where Ohio State is ranked.

The Buckeyes (8-0, 5-0 Big Ten) are ranked No. 3 in the AP poll and No. 4 in the Coaches poll, but those polls have zero impact on the four teams that make the CFP.

Might Ryan Day and Co. be ranked No. 1 the CFP?

Steve Helwagen joins Dave Biddle to discuss that on today's show, plus:

* The Buckeyes are favored by 44 points over visiting Maryland this Saturday.

* What are expectations for OSU's star players such as Justin Fields, Chase Young, J.K. Dobbins and others down the stretch of the season?

* Which game is a bigger threat to the Buckeyes: At home against Penn State, or on the road against Michigan?

All of that and more is happening on the Monday 5ish.

Ohio State landed 2021 wide receiver recruit Marvin Harrison Jr. on Thursday, giving the Buckeyes six prospects in their '21 class.

Jonah Booker joins Dave Biddle to talk about Harrison, plus:

* How Brian Hartline continues to clean up on the recruiting trail.

* The Buckeyes continue to recruit the state of Pennsylvania very well.

* Is Bijan Robinson really back in play for OSU?

* Highlights from Ryan Day's radio show, including his comments on sophomore DT Tommy Togiai who is really coming on for the Buckeyes.

All of that and more is coming at you on the Friday 5ish.
