  • 17. MLM Home Party Horror Stories
Home party horror stories.I've got a few. You let me share them with you. I'll never forget one party that I hosted to build my downline. There was about 10 people there. So it was very successful. The problem was not a single person joined up. In fact, I distinctly remember having one person who was ready to sign and my upline actually talked the person out of it, I couldn't believe it. They said one sentence, I noticed that the person was on the verge of saying okay, let's do it. And then instead of pulling out the laptop and signing that person up, my upline continued to talk and basically should have stayed quiet at that moment, and allowed her to sign up and instead said, oh, no, you don't have to do that right now. And I'm thinking, why the heck would you say that? We had a hot one. Let the iron strike while it is hot. That same party was actually two in one. We went on for like two hours. It was over. And this other group of people showed up late, two hours late for that party at my house. I thought, are you kidding me right now? I am so done with this. I need everybody to leave. Instead, we went through the whole thing all over again. It turned out to be a four hour event. And then at that same party my upline talked the one person out of joining. So I got nothing out of that. Nothing. Nobody signed up. That is one horror party. Another one, didn't happen to me. But I remember sitting in a crowd, listening to a presentation when somebody mentioned that there was a toilet on the front porch of the house, that they're about to have the house party at. Can you imagine how welcoming it is to show up at someone's house to host a party to try to grow your business. And there is a toilet sitting on the porch? There to welcome everyone. It was another event where my upline did her presentation, it was something like oh, five more minutes. And then she went on to talk for another half hour. Another time, we're sitting there, it was a video call. It's only supposed to be half hour, an hour and a half later, we're still sitting on this video call, person is still talking. You gotta respect people's time. If you say a meeting is going to be half hour, keep to the script. Keep to the timeline. End it. And don't let it go on. Why am I talking about this? The problem with all of this is you're inviting your friends and family because they trained you to do that. You bring them on, and then they sit through this torture. And then you have to hear about it. Because afterwards they don't hold back. They tell you just how they feel. How could you invite me to this. This is crap. And then they try to talk you out of it and you're believing in the system. So you start to feel like crap about it. It's not a good situation all around. Another horror story. Somebody else told me about, to this day, I kind of feel bad for that person. They reached out to their Aunt. And, you know, invited them out for coffee. They were talking and then switched the script on her and started to try to recruit for her opportunity. And her Aunt saw right through it and said, you only invited me because you had this opportunity. I really wish you actually reached out because you generally wanted to see me because it's been a while and I was really looking forward to seeing you again. But you turned it into this business meeting. It's not a great feeling.Imagine the horror of that poor woman, when when she's relying on her upline to not lead her astray. And then basically you're affecting friends and family relationships. Not cool. So that's about it. So what do we do instead. of all of this? You can sit here and listen to all these horror stories, but if there's no point to it, then there's no point in listening to the horror stories either. Sure it provides a bit of comic relief, but the way grow is to narrow down who you're recruiting or prospecting into people who actually are entrepreneurs and are looking for what you're offering.

  • 16. Why Network Marketing Makes You Feel Icky
If the network marketing industry makes you feel icky, you are not alone. And I'll tell you why. I think the network marketing industry makes you feel icky, goes back to my five reasons your upline sucks. And reason number one, it's a one size fits all approach to your training and your business growth from your upline.Your upline forces this way of growing your business on you. As if it works for everyone, it might have worked for them. In fact, it probably worked for them, and they hate it. And they are glad they don't have to do it anymore. Because they have a team of soldiers. They have their own army, growing the business for them now so they can step back and help coach and consult their own downline. People who are succeeding, and how to improve their numbers. And that is probably why they got into the industry to begin with. I've heard time and time again that these leaders, they hate growing the business the way they even train their people to do it.So why why would they do that? Why would they instill their own distaste, disgust for the industry on somebody else and expect them to enjoy it and have fun with it, and continue to strive and thrive like that. It's not even realistic. It's a huge myth. And that, to me, is why network marketing is icky. Because they tell you, okay, this is how you grow the business, you do three parties, you have five people, you make 1000 bucks, you get your money back on that first home party to pay back your initial starter kit, which doesn't always happen, it probably happens that way, 10% of the time or less. So then you're out a bunch of money and you're like, shit, this didn't work. So then you continue on because they're telling me that this works, and they've been there before. So it must be the right way to do it. And you continue on. But you didn't like the party. So you don't want to do it again. But they say - but you have to do it this way - this is how we grow the business. This is how it's proven to work. It's a proven system. Is it really though, if you did everything they told you to do, and it didn't work, it's not a proven system for you. It's a very tactical way of teaching somebody to grow a business, they should be concentrating on the strategic way of helping you grow your business. And that is why you have that icky feeling.Because it just doesn't sit right with you. It is not how you would grow a business if it was up to you. What other businesses can you think of that grow their business this way, other than network marketing? What businesses grows with house to house parties, and you know, I'll host a party and then somebody else will host a party on my behalf and they'll get a discount on the product. And then so on and so forth. And then some of those people might join your organization, and then they will host a party, and then you'll help launch them. The system constantly gets duplicated and continues to work in that fashion. Other than network marketing, I cannot think of a single industry that believes that is how you grow a business. Other than franchises. Franchises fail too. But other than franchising, there isn't really a business where there's a one size fits all, this is how you do it. This is the system you use and you'll be guaranteed success. Even in franchising, if you follow the system you're not guaranteed success. The target audience might be different, your location might be different. The city you you're in, there's so many factors that affect whether you're going to be successful in any business, let alone the network marketing business. So if you despise the network marketing business in how how they train and expect growth, if you prefer not to build it that way. And you want to build it your own way.In order to get your own turnkey system that you own and have full control over the look and feel of it. If the network marketing industry makes you feel icky, you are not alone.

And I'll tell you why. I think the network marketing industry makes you feel icky, goes back to my five reasons your upline sucks. And reason number one, it's a one size fits all approach to your training and your business growth from your upline.

Your upline forces this way of growing your business on you. As if it works for everyone, it might have worked for them. In fact, it probably worked for them, and they hate it. And they are glad they don't have to do it anymore. Because they have a team of soldiers. And that is probably why they got into the industry to begin with. I've heard time and time again that these leaders, they hate growing the business the way they even train their people to do it.

So why why would they do that? Why would they instill their own distaste, disgust for the industry on somebody else and expect them to enjoy it and have fun with it, and continue to strive and thrive like that. It's not even realistic. It's a huge myth. And that, to me, is why network marketing is icky. • 15. Stop Doing Your Opportunity Presentation
My definition of duplication or leverage is to do something once and have it automatically do it over and over again for you. Now, the opportunity presentation, if you watch how your upline does this, they will study the presentation, have a script word for word, do it repeatedly over and over and over again. Why is my question? Rather than you doing that, that presentation over and over and over again, I say do this instead. Record yourself doing the presentation with some big energy, lively energy get it down till you're comfortable with it, record yourself doing it, go over the top with your passion because the recording might suck some energy from it. So go over the top of your passion. Record it get comfortable with it, put it in a funnel then send your prospects to that presentation, let the technology do the work for you. You are obviously available to do it one on one if you need to, or do it in a public setting if you have to. But on top of that, why would you not stack the technology that can do it for you over and over again anywhere in the world. Whether you're around or not that person might not have time to watch it but then you can follow up with them and schedule a time for them to watch it and then you ask if they want any help with any information any questions you can answer how to get started all that that type of thing. You can still do the hand holding and the guiding it just because you have it going out repeatedly automatically for you it doesn't mean you just ignore it and give up on it that prospect. What you can do is send out the recording, set up a follow up meeting. A lot of times people will do this in network marketing with their upline. If their upline does a recording, they send that recording. I suggest you don't do that. Record it in your own words with yourself because at the end of the day, they are essentially joining you. They are not joining your upline person. Whenever I was getting invited to something and I wanted to see a presentation, that whole three way call, the pawning me off on their upline, used to drive me nuts. It's like, am I joining you? Or am I joining this random person that's going to tell me how amazing everything is. Not interested. I want to work with you, not the person you decided to work with, it's all fine and dandy for you to have confidence in the person you joined. It does not mean I have confidence in that same person. My confidence is in you. That's why I came to your invitation. That's why I want to hear the opportunity of what you have going on. I don't want to hear about this other person. That whole three way call and edifying the other person. That's all BS. That's all bullshit. It doesn't work like that. If anything you discredit yourself by putting me off on somebody else. So get yourself acquainted with your presentation today in your own energy, your own passion, your own words, so that it comes across as genuine. Get to the point where you're comfortable recording it, and then add that as a layer of technology to the other activity you're doing and have it running on autopilot so that it can also prospect on your behalf. Do that instead of you constantly doing the presentation over and over again because that's not leverage. That's not duplication. If you barely have the will to do what your upline is asking you to do. How do you expect your downline to do what you're not willing to do? Thank you very much. Enjoy your life and keep building. In the next episode. I am going to discuss why the network marketing industry makes you feel icky.

  • 14. 5 Reasons Your Upline Sucks
Okay, let's get right into it.Your upline approaches your business growth like a one size fits all approach to growing a worldwide business. And that just does not make any sense. They don't even have any regard for your personality type. Example, let's say you are an Introvert, do you want to host a party and do a product demo for them? Probably your worst nightmare. If you want to grow a business, and you are an Introvert, you likely do not want to spend three hours with a bunch of people talking about stuff, you probably want them out of your house, you probably don't even want to talk to that crowd. You are more of a one on one, coffee date type of person. Or, even better, you probably would rather just blog, sit in front of your computer for hours at a time in silence in your own thoughts. Yes, there is a way to be in network marketing as an Introvert, and an automated sales funnel is the absolute best way to do that. For a free guide on how to outrank your upline without hosting a single party, outrank.buildyourarmy.com is a site you want to head over to.2. Now, reason number two, why your upline sucks, they will pretty much disown you, if you don't have success. They stop reaching out to you, they stop inviting you to stuff. It's like a clicky group thing that if you're not in it, you're you're just out of it. And sure enough, okay, if you're not really doing the activity, they look at it as why am I investing in this person if they're not willing to invest in themselves, but just because you're not running your business the way they want to, it should not be a reason for them to stop supporting you. Because that is not the point of the network marketing company you joined.3. Reason number three, why your upline sucks, they will actually coach you and guide you into buying extra products, if you are on the verge of up ranking. So if you're about to hit the next level in your organization, and you're not going to quite make it there, by the end of that month, they will actually tell you, you know what, buy a bunch of products on your own, so that you can get to that next level. What the heck is the point of that, then next month, I'm just going to drop back into another level. If I don't have the sales that are required to hit the threshold, it's not sustainable, you're better off just to ride it out and continue working and building on the level and achieving it legitimately. Instead of going out and spending a bunch of money, and for some people go further into debt because of that, which drives me bananas. And that is one of the reasons why there's stigma in the industry. So don't do that. The other thing that drives me nuts is you know, you want to start this business, you have to buy a starter kit and get sample products. Buying too many products during your launch, only benefits your upline it does not benefit you as a person growing a business. Yes, you have to invest in your business 100%. Do you have to buy the $3,000 product kit and have a bunch of samples that you don't have anybody to give to. Maybe not to that extreme, maybe use a balance there. But you know your budget, they don't, so work within your budget. But to that extent, don't live from a mindset of scarcity either. So go a little bit outside your comfort zone, but not to the extreme.4. Number four, they train you one way of doing the business, but they will then themselves do it another way. If you watch what they do instead of what they say. You will notice that they're not actually growing the business the way they tell you to. They will tell you oh you don't need the website. You just use the duplicate site that the company provides for you. It's supposed to be this turnkey thing, duplicatable, and easy. No business is easy. No business can survive without being unique and having a different message. You absolutely should have your own website, you absolutely must have your own branding,

  • 13. Reposition Don’t Pivot
I agree with Chandler, Ross needs to shut the hell up because pivoting is not the answer. Repositioning is. If you're running a business and you're constantly pivoting that business, you will never gain traction. I know, because I have done it way too many times. The real answer is to re-position your business. Because positioning is more about the target audience you're seeking. Not so much changing your entire direction of your business. Take for example, myself, I am about to reposition this podcast intended originally to be a generic business growth podcast by using sales funnels. I am about to change that. This podcast is going to strictly focus on network marketers. Don't lose your shit. Don't freak out. If you're not a network marketer and you hate the industry. I hate it too. I love the industry, but I hate the way people grow their network marketing businesses. So I am going to be targeting you network marketers. However, I'm going to show you how to outrank your upline by not hosting a single party, not harassing your friends and family. Not asking waitresses, if they're interested in joining a business with you because they are fantastic at their job. They have no idea who the hell you are. But you for whatever reason, think that they want to jump into business with you. This podcast is going to remain about automated sales funnels. But it will be dedicated to helping the network marketer grow by using them. Because that icky feeling, uncomfortable house parties, inviting people over to tell them about this fantastic product and wanting to jump into business about it. Yes, the product is amazing. That's why you joined the company, you saw the opportunity. Not everybody's an entrepreneur, not everybody wants to jump into business with you. It doesn't work. And I cannot for the life of me understand why the business continues to recruit that way. And trainers teach that way too. It kills me with these generic coaches in network marketing. And then you sign up for their product because they say it's the next best thing. And it's all going to work. And you know, the old methods don't work and bla bla bla, but then they teach you how to use the old methods, but just online, it's, it's ridiculous. And I have fallen for that shit before myself, it's got to end. So you're going to build your army of your team. And people you would like to jump into bed with and start a business with them. Okay. So with that, I am going to discuss repositioning your business rather than pivoting. Again, pivoting is basically changing the business model of your company. Positioning is that basically the the target audience you're going to go after, and the type of clientele you want to work with. And that's what I'm going to do. I love people in network marketing, because they're so positive and full of energy, but they're also full of shit. And we need to fix that. Because hosting a party is not how to grow a global business. These people that train you on how to grow a global business, do it with local strategies, and then by accident, they hope that somebody on their team knows somebody in a different country. And that's how they go worldwide. Why not just go worldwide, just digitally target people around the world and with automated funnels rather than endlessly doing the same presentation over and over again, recorded once and if it works send it out automatically. You could be in your sleep and somebody around the world in a different time zone can be watching your presentation rather than you having to physically be there. Entrepreneurship is all about time leverage. And if you're not leveraging your time, you're not really an entrepreneur, you have a job that doesn't have a salary attached to it. Let's go deeper into positioning. Positioning is not about changing your business model, or how you operate or your business at all. It is about changing your messaging to attract a particular type of target audience that yo...
