I'm Nelly. This is build your army.Today I'm attacking real estate agents.Realtors.I'm going to be honest with you.You really don't know how to market to your ideal client. And the reason I say that is because you door knock, you do bench ads and you do billboard ads and you send me flyers. You're probably sending thousands of people fliers to their doorstep, to their mail.I check my mailbox maybe once every two weeks.Nine times out of 10, there's probably four or five Realtors sending me flyers, and they all look the same. And they all have the same message. You don't know how to be unique. On top of that, you propose on your first date because you ask for the business too soon. Without building a relationship with me. Without taking me out for dinner and getting to know my needs before you Ah, propose to me.So we'll start with the flyer, then we'll go with bench ads and then we'll go with, um, the door knock. So flyers, bench ads, door knocking.Door knocking is my favorite. So why is it that you think buying or selling question mark is a convincing way to convince me to do business with you?Or just the fact that you exist and you advertise to me?Why would I choose you over your 50,000 competitors in your city?Just think about that for a moment. You guys and gals are all doing the same thing. So why would I pick you over the other person? If anything, it just creates confusion and nothing else.Every once in a while, I get a clever flyer and I keep it.You're dealing with personal relationships as your competitor.Okay, so the flyer buying or selling question mark with all your listings and how much you've sold for or whatever. All you're telling me is that you do business. You're not telling me how you're different than your competitor. You also have my attention for probably two seconds before I throw your flyer in the recycling bin.It actually frustrates me because I, like probably everybody else, is very busy in their life.Newborn children, um, busy work schedule all sorts of stuff, getting in the way of you, getting my attention as a potential client.I don't think you're thinking about the buying experience. In that instance, you're thinking from your your perspective, your own perspective. You're not thinking from a customer's perspective and what they're busy life might look like. You have to enter their world when they're ready to make the decision to buy, which is also what, once every four years, if even that, if not longer. So you're trying to catch that person at that opportune moment when they're ready to pull the plug. What you’re saying is pull the trigger on listing their home, and you're banking on the fact that your one flyer is gonna hit that person at the right moment in four years. No chance, not a chance.Let's then go over to the bench ads.Same idea.Buying or selling question mark.I'm not going to hire you because I know you exist. It's not enough for me to know because it's not enough for me to decide to work with you because you've advertised on a bench on my route to work.I know I'm throwing just complaints at you, and I'm not giving you solutions, but they're going to come.I promise.I am gonna come to this episode with some solutions if you were a Real Estate Agent. And by the way, this applies to any business trying to develop their ideal client. It's not only for a Real Estate Agent. The transferable experience is the same. And then, uh, door knocking, which I love.I love that the most. You know, you’ve had a long day of work.Come home, having dinner, you kick your feet up.Finally, you relax. You're watching crappy news on TV or something. And there’s a knock at the door.Uh huh.So you get up, you head over to it.I'm telling the story from the buyer's perspective.Walk up to the door,

    I'm Nelly.

    This is build your army.

Today I'm attacking real estate agents.

    Realtors.

I'm going to be honest with you.

You really don't know how to market to your ideal client.

And the reason I say that is because you door knock, you do bench ads and you do billboard ads and you send me flyers.

You're probably sending thousands of people fliers to their doorstep, to their mail.

I check my mailbox maybe once every two weeks.

Nine times out of 10, there's probably four or five Realtors sending me flyers, and they all look the same.

And they all have the same message.

You don't know how to be unique.

On top of that, you propose on your first date because you ask for the business too soon. Without building a relationship with me. Without taking me out for dinner and getting to know my needs before you Ah, propose to me.

So we'll start with the flyer, then we'll go with bench ads and then we'll go with, um, the door knock.

So flyers, bench ads, door knocking.

    Door knocking is my favorite.

So why is it that you think buying or selling question mark is a convincing way to convince me to do business with you?

Or just the fact that you exist and you advertise to me?

Why would I choose you over your 50,000 competitors in your city?

Just think about that for a moment.

You guys and gals are all doing the same thing.

So why would I pick you over the other person?

If anything, it just creates confusion and nothing else.

Every once in a while, I get a clever flyer and I keep it.

You're dealing with personal relationships as your competitor.

Okay, so the flyer buying or selling question mark with all your listings and how much you've sold for or whatever.

All you're telling me is that you do business.

You're not telling me how you're different than your competitor.

You also have my attention for probably two seconds before I throw your flyer in the recycling bin.

It actually frustrates me because I, like probably everybody else, is very busy in their life.

Newborn children, um, busy work schedule all sorts of stuff, getting in the way of you, getting my attention as a potential client.

I don't think you're thinking about the buying experience.

    No chance, not a chance.

Let's then go over to the bench ads.

    Same idea.

    Buying or selling question mark.

  • Ep. 01 – Starting Friction Can Suck It
Nelly here, and this is the Build Your Army podcast. Where I give you unsolicited advice on how to market your business to attract your ideal client. And provide them with a superior buying experience.Because it's not just about the selling experience. You have to think about your customer's buying experience in order for them to want to buy from you.In this first podcast episode, I just want to talk about starting friction because even myself trying to start this damn thing I experienced starting friction myself. You know, the first podcasts or the first episode, or anything you do in your launch, you're gonna want it to be big and near perfect. And I say, screw that, because trying to be perfect is what makes you procrastinate. Not start, not get that feedback loop from your clients that you absolutely need in order to improve. And perfection is the enemy of progress. So in that time I'm trying to think of, what should I make my first podcast episode? How can it be perfect? What should I talk about?Screw it, just start and then continue to roll with it and build on it, and you'll perfect. It's not perfect, you'll get better at it.And as time goes on, your message will resonate more and more just like I'm doing here. You know, I'm just gonna wing it and see how things go, because if I never start, I'll never be able to improve. And I want you to do the same.So just whatever idea you have for the business that you want to start, just get it started. The benefit of being online is it's very affordable compared to a brick and mortar business. The problem with the brick and mortar business or sorry, the problem with it being extremely affordable online is it gives you an opportunity to be flaky. It makes it too easy to bumble around and pivot and not really hone in on your message and dial it in. So the cure to that is just stick with your messaging, give it some time, start and repeat and get your message out there because if you start and stop, you're constantly gonna be facing that starting friction again.Your mojo is going to come down, so I say there's gonna be some learning curves with starting, so unless you start, you'll never be able to progress. So because it's not a brick and mortar business, you can stop and then rethink and over analyze and never get into that routine. And the issue with that is, you'll never get anywhere.Your business will never grow and excel. This is not intended to be a generic business growth podcast. It really is about providing a superior buying experience for your ideal client, because time and time again, I am super frustrated when I'm trying to do business with companies.I'm trying to give them money, and they just put up obstacles, and it just makes me want and never do business with them again. So just by streamlining and tweaking or going above and beyond for your buyer, your ideal client by default you'll generate more revenue that way so you'll be able to generate more revenue from your same client base. But you have to build the client base. In order to do that, you have to own your domain, and you can do that at buildyourarmy.app/hosting and register your domain and use the promo code Army for an exclusive discount. There, all right now, I don't know how long that discount is gonna last, so head on over there quickly before you waste any time.So this podcast is going to be primarily for solopreneurs, small businesses, freelancers, professional services like real estate agents, yoga instructors, personal trainers, anybody who is more or less trying to wear multiple hats and creating a streamlined system so that you can generate more clients.Give them that well, experience and focus on more of that rather than wearing multiple hats, like doing your accounting, cleaning, taking out the laundry or whatever you have to do over and above your core business efforts.
