In this exhilarating episode, we're back with the fearless bull rider, Josh Birks, as he takes us on a wild journey through his rodeo career, filled with high-flying adventures and unexpected mishaps. Josh shares the tale of his sponsorship with VJV, the owners of the sale yards in Canada. He hatched a plan to attend both the Ponoka Pro Rodeo, the second-largest rodeo in Canada, and a PBR event in Saskatchewan on the same day. With a bull ride at Ponoka followed by a chartered plane ride, things got interesting. On the flight, Josh and his mates decided to enjoy some whiskey, and even against explicit instructions, offered some to the pilot. The pilot's unexpected maneuvers during the flight raised tensions, and when they landed, the owner of VJV was waiting to give Josh an earful. After returning to Ponoka, the night took another unexpected turn as Josh found himself in a fight, coming to the aid of a mate. The police arrived and questioned them, but the boys used their black eyes as evidence of their involvement in bull riding rather than the brawl. All of this drama unfolded while Josh was wearing his sponsorship shirt, and VJV threatened to cancel his sponsorship if he didn't ride a 90 on his next bull. Fortunately, Josh delivered and rode over 90, securing his sponsorship. Josh also shares a hilarious and daring plan involving his idol, Scott Schiffner. While hanging out with friends and BB guns, Josh decided that the moment Scott walked through the door, he would shoot him with a BB gun to ensure he'd never forget him. Throughout the episode, Josh provides insights into bull riding, sharing that he often felt more confident on his second ride than the first and that he preferred bulls that bucked out of his hand. He emphasizes the importance of staying forward and allowing the bull to do the work. Josh also reveals that he often assessed bulls based on their body shape. The conversation takes a somber turn as Josh reflects on the injuries he's endured in his career, including a broken back, nine broken ribs, and lacerations from a bull standing on him. Despite the pain, Josh lived by the motto, "Play the game, take the pain." However, his rodeo career ultimately came to an end when he found love and became a father. Join us for a heart-pounding and laughter-filled episode as Josh Birks shares his unforgettable rodeo experiences, from wild adventures to challenging moments in the arena. #propertrueyarn Hosted on Acast.
