so obviously you've talked multiple times at this point about how the Iron Dominion saga featuring Monkey Kahn was a joke idea to make your other pitches seem better that Pellerito ended up choosing anyways. Now back in the old Mike Gallagher Off-Panels, it was a running gag that Pellerito had an obsession with monkeys and apes. I wonder...

Madeline M (Ko-Fi)

Ian, is how Sonic and Tails first met in the IDW continuity the same as mainline? Amy mentioned in #10 how Tails was raised by Sonic. Did Sonic find Tails going hungry as a baby or toddler, or did Tails fix up Sonic’s plane? Can you describe the story of Sonic raising Tails?

Scurvy Piratehog (KoFi)

One...thing I have seen going around at times that annoys me a little is when people claim that Eggman/Robotnik is a complete idiot, and not a real threat. I mean, in IDW and Forces, he DID manage to take over the world, he has created huge facilities, robot armies, deadly inventions, and he has shown multiple times that he actually is a genius, and had really evil moments. I personally think that the main thing about the character is that his main weaknesses are his own overconfidence in his plans, and his own obsession with Sonic.

But what do you think? How would you sorta "explain" Eggman?

PRIORITY Q&A

Bradley T.

Hi! My son, Sandy, is working on a Sonic Christmas play, and wants to know if you have any ideas for dialogue and drama? The plot idea is that Eggman is trying to destroy Santa so that Christmas will not come, causing chaos that will make it easier for him to form his Eggman Empire. Sonic uncovers the plot when he sees Eggman's ship heading toward the North Pole, with badnicks and Metal Sonic riding on top. Thanks!

Blue Mickey Mouse

I could be way off-base with terminology I’ve probably heard in science fiction numerous times but I have a question about the dialogue in Mega Man volume 5. When Proto Man is first awakened he is asked for a self-diagnostic. He replies that all his systems report “nominal”. I often have to look up words I never end up solidly understanding/remembering but when I searched “nominal” it went into a bit trickier territory than the first few common definitions. I understand it means “as intended by design” but before landing on that I saw that word is used in describing energy capacity in photovoltaic devices aka solar-powered. The comic mentions numerous times that Proto Man was originally built with a faulty solar core (which Wily states to have replaced with a nuclear one, haha, that’s it’s own joke) was there intentional wordplay around that concept?

I’m actually asking this as I read for the first time so sorry if this doesn’t get addressed anyway between the printedmaterial or Q&As. As I’m sure you know this material is hard to come by in physical form.

Diane W.

Would you include the “Eggman resurrected the Deadly Six” titbit and address it fully by showing the full story?

Scruffymatt

If SEGA decided to add DLC to Sonic Team Racing, what would you like to see as new content?

Andrew D.

If Sally and Antoine were to return to the IDW comics, what animals would you like to see them as, assuming squirrel (according to old Archie material) and coyote are off the table due to being made up by Archie? And would they keep their surnames?

AWF

My question is are there any chatacters you're required to include, that maybe you'd rather not? Or chatacters you're just not sure how to write?

While you were planning on doing a Lost World adaptation in the Archie Comic before it was cancelled, have you already asked SEGA how Eggman discovered the Lost Hex to begin with, or would’ve your adaptation of Lost World have your own interpretation/head-canon theory on how Eggman discovered the Lost Hex? And have you also asked SEGA why the Deadly Six desire to destroy Sonic’s world?

If you were given the chance to write an episode or comic issue of a Sonic animated show or Sonic IDW that deals with serious real-life issues, what would it be and how would you handle it?

will the Freedom Fighters (Sally, Antoine, Bunnie, Rotor, Nicole, Chuck, Ben, etc.) If somehow, you guy were given permission to put them in with a fresh coat a paint, into the IDW Comics, who would know for a fact would not be included from this list? If I remember correctly about the mandates, there aren't any new familial ties allowed (for instance, creating a parent for Sonic), but I could be wrong. Another question is about the mandates: If you could remove them, what would you add to the new comics, such as familial, romantic, or otherwise?

AwesomeCakester

Ian; Looking back on how you had to introduce a new Sonic world in the IDW comic, having to basically make a spiritual follow up to Sonic Forces for a different media. I think a lot of us don't really think about how difficult that was. Dealing with people that were unhappy with Sonic Forces, the sudden end to the Archie run and losing tons of characters that fans loved for so long, the Freedom Fighters, couldn't have been a walk in the park. What were some of the challenges that you had to face when starting the run of the IDW comics?

Digamma

What's the lead time between when a story is written (as in the script, pre-planning obviously stretches back far longer) to when it's published on IDW Sonic? (to simplify things let's go by original intended release dates for delayed issues) I remember back in the Archie days you mentioned it was 6 months, but that was Archie and this is IDW, different publishers, plus I've heard that art wise IDW has different lead times/deadlines than Archie. Also, is the lead time different between main book issues vs miniseries issues vs Annual stories?

AWF

Question for Ian and Kyle: You are now a chatacter in a Fallout game. What kind of chatacter are you? What kind of skills do you have? Are you a team player, or do you go in solo? Would you join a faction like the Brotherhood of Steel, or are you all about that raider lyfe?

Scruffymatt

Hey there gents. I was wondering what your plans are for this holiday season? How will you be adapting this year in lieu of being unable to do a lot of your usual holiday traditions?

N'Oni

Lo there, got a question! Whenever we're able to do the whole Convention thing again, Will the Bumblekast ever have a fan table at one? Also, would you take any suggestions on conventions to go to?

Scurvy Piratehog

To Ian: Hey Ian! love what you have done on Bad guys, but after issue 2...it got me thinking. Couldn't Eggman put EM Shielding on all his robots to prevent the Zeti from controlling them? I feel that kind of tech gives him an actual real fighting chance against them since they can control tech. Also while we are at it, considering Neo was in the first arc, and teh Deadly Six hijacked the metal Virus, is it too much to ask to have a big story arc where Eggmen gets to keep being the main villain through it? He's Sonic's arch-enemy after all and I miss having some real Sonic VS Eggman stories where he gets to be the full on main villain.

To Kyle: Out of curiosity...

Ian, do you write Tangle, Whisper, Starline, Jewel, Mimic, or Rough and Tumble with a specific voice in mind? Any actors in particular you'd like to see voice them if they were to have their own appearance in other Sonic media?

Scruffymatt

Greetings Ian and Kyle, you mysterious seekers of truth and answerers of questions! I imagine that like myself, many video game fans are frustrated that the only crossovers we're getting between Sonic and Mario are the Olympic Games compilations, when what we really want is a platformer with Sonic and Mario teaming up against Eggman and Bowser. The two of you have talked about this idea on the show before, and why it might or might not work. But what if SEGA and Nintendo decided to try going in a different direction? There's the MarioKart series, and there's the Sonic Racing series. Mash them together, and what do you get? ...no seriously, tell me. What do you get? Go nuts, fellas! What do you think a racing game combining Mario and Sonic would be like?

Starline’s Fanboy

Hi Ian, imagining that Dr. Starline existed in the same universe in which Dr. Eggman had the Egg Bosses and he still worked for the doctor, how would be his relationship with the Bosses? Would he be their superior? And would he have a rivalry with Thunderbolt because of her crush for Eggman or an alliance?

What Spider-Man stories across all forms of Spider-Man media, be it comics, movies, games ect have stuck with you the most?

Digamma

What's the story behind Fragile, the back up story for issue 232? At that point in your run you were pretty much the sole writer outside of some leftover inventory stories (which had been long since exhausted) and Yardley writing some X issues and Babylon Rising, but then lo and behold there's a back up story important to Bunnie and Antoine's arc by a pair of guys who haven't worked on the book beforehand nor since. Come to think of it there was also a buntwan story written by a different pair of writers who were never otherwise involved in the book early in the reboot (though non-you writers were a bit more common by then)

Is Modern Sonic a result of one of the possible ending of Sonic CD and the time stone shenanigans? I know you're the comic guy and what you say doesn't have any bearing on ...

Ian sniffles and coughs his way through the Q&A.

Priority Q&A

AwesomeCakester

Question; Sorry to bring up the two worlds again, but if humans live in one world and Sonic and the others live in "Sonic's World" then (technically speaking and going off of what has been said about it) does that mean Eggman is from the human world?

N'Oni

If Zeti can control anything that has an electrical current running through them, could one of them hypothetically hijack Shadow's Shoes?

AWF

Does this mean that Mobians do consider Mobinis to be a food source?

Jonathan W

Did you have this exact imagery while writing? (RE: STH#29)

DianeLionheart

Do you think Eggman is Polish considering that his surname “Robotnik” is the polish word for “worker”? What would happen to a Zombot if it got decapitated? What’s your favourite team from Sonic Heroes and why is it Team Sonic?

Digamma

Hey Ian, what would you personally say some of your biggest mistakes and regrets with regards to writing sonic are?

Silly Rookie (Ko-Fi)

Hiya! What do you feel are the most efficient ways to introduce/reintroduce and develop a character under the page limitations you're under? Any methods you feel are unique to the comics medium? Any methods you've seen (no names) that you dislike?

Scurvypiratehog (Ko-Fi)

Eggman will have kids so...who the heck is the mother? Elise? Wendy Naugus? Someone REALLY desperate?? WHO!??

HedgeWolf23

If the Freedom Fighters are able to appear in the new comics, who would NOT show up?

Starline's Fanboy

How old is Starline? I know he must be an adult, but what's his age?

SonAmy Channel (Ko-Fi)

IWill [the new Hot Topic merch] canonically affect Sonic's & Amy's interactions with each other in future issues of IDW Sonic?

Paps/KKM

Ian and Kyle both. Imagine you're asked what your favourite comic books you've ever read...just say what books come to mind. Some 5 per each of you? Maybe more if you can think of more?

Andrew D.

In issue 14, Silver holds Metal Sonic in place with his psychokinesis, so how is it that Metal Sonic falls through the warp hole that Dr. Starline opens beneath him if he’s being held?

BlueTidalGamer

To Ian: Since IDW's newest character, Belle is Evan Stanley's idea, did you have any sort of small creative involvement with the creation of the character, or is it all Evan?

To Kyle: What are your personal thoughts on the recently released PS5 and new Xbox consoles?
