  • Going Deeper: Friendship

Today's episode is a deep dive into friendship.

Alex Alexander recently interviewed me on her podcast, Friendship IRL and this is that interview.

Originally, our idea was to talk about how to make business friends, but our conversation quickly became so much more. We focused especially on intentional everyday actions we need to take to build the kinds of connections we want in our lives.

You have probably read articles that point to friendship as one of the top contributors to happiness. And yet, especially for busy business owners, friendship usually gets pushed to the bottom of a To Do list - if it even goes on the list at all!

Taking even one small action a day toward friendship and connection can lead to feelings of contentment, positive self-regard and fulfillment. And those feelings help us begin to create a well-rounded life that is worth living!

So, listen in and discover how you can begin to take important friendship actions now – even as a very busy business owner.

  • Ep. 11: Hire the Right Employees and Independent Contractors

Angelica has a housecleaning business that she'd like to grow. She has one person on staff but she'd like to also hire another housecleaner so she can take on even more clients. Angelica wants to begin to step more away from her business to free up time to spend more time with her family and have quality time with herself.

In this session, we explore that and a lot more. If you are looking for people to help you in your business or if you'd like to hire in the future, this session with Angelica will give you some ideas on how and where to find good staff, especially if you have a service-based business.

If you can relate to wanting to create more time through hiring the right staff, this coaching session will help you.

  • Ep. 10: Job Breakup and Transcending Ageism

This is a very unusual episode for this podcast. Here's why: my coaching client today, Sasha, is a job seeker rather than a business owner.

But what she grapples with here in this session is something that a lot of people deal with, regardless of if they're in the workplace or they have a business.

Sasha's last job feels like a bad breakup and she wants to find the right fit when she lands her next job.

As you listen to this episode, I invite you to see if you can notice some similarities within yourself as you hear Sasha's challenges.

Even if you are not a job seeker, you may be able to relate to some of what Sasha is dealing with here in this session.

I want you to put yourself in the shoes of Sasha.

Sasha is opening herself up in a big way by sharing all that she does in this session. She's vulnerable and courageous and these qualities help me help her in this session.

I am grateful to Sasha and all of the podcast coaching clients who come on this podcast to talk about difficult things. Thank you to all of you podcast coaching clients!

  • Ep. 9: Call Your Spirit Back

My coaching client today is Alicia Dattner and she's a force of nature. She's a comedienne, an online course creator, an author, and she also has many other creative and business projects.

Sometimes business owners who have so many business projects can get stuck in chaos and Alicia is experiencing some chaos.

She needs to find a way to channel her energy from her many mundane tasks into containment during certain days and times of the week.

For many business owners there can be an endless drip of something to do – marketing, emails to write, clients to schedule, etc. The list goes on and on. When these important business tasks are undone, it can lead to chaos.

The remedy is simple but it's not always easy.

  • Ep. 8: Analysis Paralysis

Corrin Madden has a product-based business. Her product is heartwarming and unusual! (When you listen to this episode, you'll find out what her product is; I think you're going to love hearing about it.)

With Corrin, I did something different than I've done with the other coaching clients you've heard on this podcast which is this: after I ordered Corrin's product and was so 'wowed' by what she offers I felt inspired to reach out to Corrin and ask her if she'd like to be coached on the podcast. She said yes and here she is.

Corrin is a boots-on-the-ground business owner looking to grow her heart-filled business. Being immersed in the many day-to-day tasks is keeping her from doing the powerful marketing actions that will generate the results she Corrin wants.

Like a lot of busy business owners, Corinn feels paralyzed to take action and create more visibility. She also realizes she needs to delegate and hire to give her more time and energy grow her business and so she has more personal time.

  • Ep. 7: Making Friends with the Food Business

Ivonne has a tea shop near my home on the Big Island of Hawaii. It's the one of the sweetest, most homey shops. Both Ivonne and her tea shop have great energy and if you are ever on the Big Island of Hawaii, I encourage you to visit her shop which is called Cardinal Herbs, Teas and Spices.

I'm working with Ivonne today on an issue you may be able to relate to if you have an aspect of your business that is a big passion or joy for you but doesn't draw as many customers as you would like, and another part of your business that supports you financially but perhaps you don't enjoy doing it as much as your passion project.

  • Ep. 6: Pregnant with a Business Project

The coaching session today is with Robin, a prop stylist in New York City. If you aren't familiar with what a prop stylist does, you will find out when you hear this episode!

Not only is Robin a prop stylist, she's also the author of a new book. Like a lot of authors, she wants to expand her business reach with her book.

In addition to her book and prop style business, Robin is also pregnant with a few other project ideas right now. So, she's got a lot she's currently working on and because of that, she feels overwhelmed.

According to Robin, she's a bit shy and introverted, and often has to force herself to put herself out there. So, how can Robin do the marketing that's needed for her book and other projects when she's feeling shy and introverted? You'll find out in this podcast coaching session!

Some of what we talk about today gets a bit technical, but for those of you interested in creating an online course, writing a book and/or marketing your book, you're going to get a lot of actionable takeaways from this episode.

  • Ep. 5: Pause the Hustle

Andrea is a new mom who is also scaling her real estate business. Growing her business and raising her son are requiring her intense focus, time and energy.

She also needs inner restoration by giving herself some "me time" and she's unsure how to give that to herself or even where to put herself into her schedule.

In Andrea's coaching session we explore where, when and how she can put herself back into her schedule to give herself rest and renewal - and it comes about in a very surprising and soulful way.

  • Ep. 4: Fast-Track Passive Income and Platform Building

Sheira is a therapist who wants to take her business to the next level and reach a lot of people with the important information she has to share. In this episode we explore how she can create passive income items including books, audiobooks and online courses in order to expand her reach and her profit.

Sheira's time is limited because she's not only a business owner but she's also a devoted mom. So, in this coaching session we also explore how Sheira can delegate some of the work of these new projects in a way that will not only help her get the information out more quickly but also will provide additional income streams and help a lot of people.

  • Ep. 3: Business Owners Who Have Depression and Anxiety

In today's coaching session, I'm working with Cora, a pet business owner who struggles with occasional bouts of depression and anxiety. This causes her to suffer - and her business to suffer.

When she's not experiencing depression and anxiety, her energy level is high, her response time to clients is quick, and she's able to invoice clients in a prompt manner as well as do other necessary business tasks.

However, when she's going through a challenging emotional time, things look very different: it can take her a week or two to return client calls, it can be like slogging through quicksand to bill her clients in a timely manner and she has very little energy to run her business. She feels physically and mentally stopped.

If you also experience depression or anxiety, this may sound familiar to you.

Now, you know this (but I have to say this to protect myself, and to protect you listeners): I'm not a therapist nor a medical doctor. I'm a business and life coach.

If you are suffering from depression or anxiety, please talk to a medical professional.

In today's coaching session, I'm not trying to diagnose Cora, nor cure her anxiety or depression. I can't do that, nor would attempt to do that.

I am simply having a conversation with Cora about depression and anxiety and how it impacts her business and her life. I'm not trying to fix Cora's depression or anxiety but rather to help her better navigate her business during the challenging times.

Again, if you're struggling with depression or anxiety, please get help from a medical professional.

Thank you to Cora for having the courage to come on this podcast and be a voice for those of you who suffer from depression and anxiety and are also trying to run your business, raise your kids, and/or navigate your personal and work life.

Even if you don't experience depression and anxiety, you may know someone who does, and this episode may help you feel more empathy and compassion for this often-silent challenge that can be crippling in ways that cannot be seen.
