India’s Covid-19 caseload rose to 81.84 lakh with October registering a nearly 30 percent decline in both new deaths and cases as compared to September, while total recoveries surged to 74.91 lakh.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 81,84,082 with 46,963 new infections being reported in a day, while the death toll climbed to 1,22,111 with 470 new fatalities.

New infections due to Covid-19 have started to decline steadily since the first week of October.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the opposition over the Pulwama attack after Pakistan’s admission of complicity in it, saying it has “taken masks off” the faces of those in India who never cared for the “sons of Bihar” who lost their lives in the assault.

Modi also berated the RJD-Congress combine in Bihar, calling it an alliance of two crown princes whose sole concern was to protect their “respective thrones“.

On Sunday, a Super typhoon Goni weakened after passing through the southern part of the Philippines' main island of Luzon, with officials reporting at least four deaths, power supply outages, infrastructure damage, and flash floods. 

Rainfall for the month of October has reduced to three per cent due mainly to raised rain deficits in the South Peninsula attributed mainly to the delay in the arrival of the North-East monsoon as also its indifferent performance on the first four days ever since over the region during the just-concluded month.

A low-pressure area has formed over the East-Central Bay of Bengal off the Myanmar coast, far away from Tamil Nadu and India’s East Coast, after a typhoon from the South China Sea hit Vietnam a couple of days ago and a remnant crossed Thailand and Myanmar to enter the Bay.

As predicted, by both India Meteorological Department (IMD) and private forecaster Skymet Weather, the system would likely get a move towards the Bangladesh coast during Sunday and Monday. Already, it has cut a trough towards Bangladesh, showing its likely track of movement.
