Penn State football secured two flips from the Iowa State Class of 2026 on the Tuesday before Christmas when Pete Eglitis and Mason Bandhauer chose to join the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley. The duo follows head coach Matt Campbell and offensive line coach Ryan Clanton to Penn State and will join the team for the upcoming year. Host of the BWI YouTube Channel and film analyst Thomas Frank Carr discusses the journey for these two football players from Iowa State to Penn State and where they could see the field in the future for the Nittany Lions.

Penn State plays one final game in the 2025 season this weekend, traveling to New York to face Clemson in the Pinstripe Bowl. Meanwhile, the team continues to transition from the James Franklin era to the Matt Campbell era as the team steadily works toward January and the transfer portal. This week on the BWI Live Show, we’ll discuss the team's latest roster news, including transfers from the program. Players the team may target in the portal, and the latest coaching news. The team still needs a defensive coordinator, and it still needs to finalize details with several defensive coaches.

With Christmas on Thursday, today will be the only BWI Live Show this week. However, we’ll have a full weekend of game coverage on the Blue White Illustrated YouTube Channel. Join us at 9 a.m. from downtown State College as we broadcast live from the Scholar Hotel at the Big Springs Spirits Tasting room. We’ll preview the matchup between Clemson and Penn State for 90 minutes heading into the official radio pregame show. You can hear the Tailgate Show on the BWI YouTube Channel, 99.8 The Bus, or on Bigfoot Country Legends. The Tailgate Show is produced in conjunction with Seven Mountains Media.

Penn State roster reveals its new form with transfers

It’s no secret that plenty of Penn State football players plan to enter the transfer portal in the next few weeks, but some of the names are starting to come out publicly this week. Late last week, defensive end Chaz Coleman put his name into the portal, and on Monday evening, starting cornerback A.J. Harris added his name to the list.

Today, we’ll discuss the impact of losing a rising star and a top starter from the defensive secondary for the upcoming season. How many other players could make their way to the portal? We won’t speculate about names, but we’ll give fans an outline of what to expect.

On the flip side, the transfer portal is filling up with potential Penn State football players if the team is interested in bringing in outside help for 2026. The obvious place to start is the Iowa State transfer portal tracker, which has six names expected to join the ranks of players looking for a new home in the new year. We’ll discuss which names you need to know, including starting quarterback Rocco Becht.

Staffing update: Or lack thereof

It’s been very quiet on the staffing front for the last several days. After a flurry of news in the first week and a half, the team’s coaching roster under Campbell has remained silent. What’s the latest on the team’s pursuit of a defensive coordinator? Why haven’t the deals become official with defensive line coach Deion Barnes and linebackers Dan Connor? We’ll discuss what we know about the situation and give fans the latest on the impact of not having those pieces in place.

Want to discuss something else? Join the BWI Live Show at 10 a.m. on YouTube and join the live chat! We’ll discuss your questions and comments during the hour-long show.

The Penn State football recruiting efforts are now in high gear after months of lying dormant without a coach. As a result, we’ll have a full-on BWI Live Recruiting Show today, discussing the latest commitments, available players left to help salvage the 2026 class, and looking ahead to 2027 recruiting efforts, which start in earnest next month. Join reporters Ryan Snyder and Sean Fitz as they discuss the important names in the recruiting efforts under Matt Campbell during his first month on the job.

We’ll also take your comments and questions in the live chat! Join us live at 10 a.m. on YouTube to give your thoughts and questions about the state of the team’s recruiting efforts in the early portion of Campbell’s tenure. This is also the last recruiting show of 2025! With Christmas next week and New Year's Day the following week, we’ll be on hiatus until January. However, that doesn’t mean we’re done for the year! Join the BWI Live show next Tuesday at 10 a.m.

We’ll also have our standard pre- and postgame shows before and after the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec 27. We’ll be back Monday, Dec. 29 and 30th, plus a special Transfer Portal broadcast on Friday, Jan 2. Is that a lot to remember? Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated’s YouTube Channel right now and enable notifications. That way, you’ll receive an alert whenever we go live or post breaking news in the coming weeks!

Iowa State recruiting flips

We’ll start today’s show discussing the Iowa State recruiting flips from last weekend as a group. What did Snyder and Fitz think of the players that Penn State gained from Iowa State’s previous class? How do they fit into the locker room and roster? Snyder has spoken with coaches and players and will share his highlights to start today’s show.

Of course, the team still has just six commits for this cycle. Can they find at least enough players to equal roughly half of a recruiting cycle? We’ll discuss the uncommitted players left that the team may target in this next phase, which culminates on the traditional signing day in February. Plus, we’ll review the prospects from Michigan that make sense for Penn State to target.

Penn State targets and offers

Beyond the Class of 2026 prospects Penn State is trying to salvage, the team has been aggressive this week with its offers for the Class of 2027. Our reporters have been tracking the players that Penn State has offered and will discuss the names and positions to know for the upcoming cycle that the team has reintroduced into the recruiting ecosystem.

Join the show today to discuss all of that, and more!

The Penn State football program enters the Pinstripe Bowl at a unique crossroads, balancing bowl preparation with a major transition under new head coach Matt Campbell. On today’s BWI Live Show, we break down what starting quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer said during bowl media availability, including his approach to the game, his relationship with the new coaching staff, and how the quarterback room is adjusting during a period of change.

Paragraph 2

We also dive into the latest Penn State coaching hires, with receivers coach Noah Pauley and quarterbacks coach Jake Waters officially joining the staff. With roster turnover, potential opt-outs, and young players expected to see expanded roles, the Pinstripe Bowl serves as an important evaluation opportunity. We’ll preview the players we’re most interested in watching and explain what this final game can tell us about Penn State’s roster moving forward under Matt Campbell.

Due to Grunkemeyer’s media availability time slot, we’ll be broadcasting today at 10:30 instead of 10 a.m. Join us live to be part of the show! We’ll take comments and questions from the live chat throughout the show to get the pulse of what Penn State fans are talking about and want to know.

Finally, subscribe to the BWI YouTube channel now and enable notifications so you don’t miss any of the latest information over the holiday season. We’ll have just one show on Tuesday during the week of Christmas, but we’ll be back the following week with special content as the team heads into the start of the transfer portal. If you enable notifications, you’ll receive alerts when we post news, go live at different times, or have special shows.

Grunkemeyer discusses dynamics with the new coaching staff

Penn State’s starting quarterback spoke to the media as part of the team’s Pinstripe Bowl availability on Wednesday morning. We’ll discuss his most relevant comments when asked about the current situation with the team and his new coaching staff. The full press conference will be available after the show’s conclusion.

Next, we’ll discuss the coaching staff and the latest news. Penn State officially hired two more coaches on Tuesday afternoon, with receivers coach Noah Pauley and quarterbacks coach Jake Waters joining the staff. We’ll discuss the hiring and what we know about the passing game duo so far.

Pinstripe Bowl Preview

With so many seniors on the Penn State football team this year, the chance for opt-outs or partial playing time from season-long starters is incredibly high. We’ll end the show today by discussing the players we find most interesting that we’ll likely see in the team’s final game of the 2025 season. We’ll discuss the positions on offense and defense where we think young players will be thrust into the starting lineup or key role player position. From there, we’ll discuss what we can learn about them and who has the chance to audition for a position on the upcoming roster under new head coach Matt Campbell.

Penn State has added another defensive back to its Class of 2026 in Lincoln, Neb., native Tyrell Chatman.

Listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds, Chatman did a little bit of everything at North Star High School. He played both quarterback and wide receiver on offense, totaling 2,047 yards and 26 touchdowns over the past two seasons. However, Chatman is expected to be a cornerback for the Nittany Lions after finishing his high school career with 88 tackles, 21 pass breakups and four interceptions.

Blue White Illustrated discusses what Chatman brings to Happy Valley and to Penn State.

Penn State’s quarterback recruiting in the 2026 cycle has been a rollercoaster. The team has gained and lost commits and coaches throughout the journey to the early signing day, and now, an unexpected player joins the program this week. Three-star passer Kase Evans committed to Penn State on Sunday, days after new head coach Matt Campbell took the job in Happy Valley.

Quarterback is an incredibly important position that requires significant time and attention. While we’d like to have more film, four full games from Evans’ senior season will have to do. We discuss what we've learned about Evans and his fit with Penn State.

The Penn State Football team is undergoing the expected metamorphosis with new head coach Matt Campbell at the helm. The team has hired several on- and off-field coaches in the last seven days, with more to come. Today on the BWI Live Show, we’ll take stock of where things stand right now and what is left for Campbell to decide. We’ll also track the latest recruiting additions over the weekend in Fitz’s Recruiting Update. Penn State also plays Clemson on the 27th in the Pinstripe Bowl. We’ll discuss the players who have opted out of the game and which players still have to announce their intentions for the final game of the 2025 Penn State football season.

Join us for all of that and more! We’ll be taking your questions on today’s show and discussing whatever else is going on with Penn State football. Subscribe to the BWI YouTube Channel right now so you don’t miss any breaking news, commitment videos, or live shows as we enter the Christmas season.

Note: The BWI Live schedule will be truncated over the next two weeks due to Christmas and New Year's. Check out this week’s episodes for an updated schedule.

Transfer portal is heating up two weeks before it opens, Penn State staff updates

Penn State has yet to be hit hard by the transfer portal, but the news is likely coming. Today, we’ll discuss the flurry of quarterbacks that entered the portal in the last several hours. Should Penn State be interested in any of them to join its 2026 roster?

Of course, the biggest news in the first week of Campbell’s tenure at Penn State is his staff choices. So far, there have been far more off-field decisions than on-field coaching announcements. We’ll review the coaches who have officially joined the staff from Iowa State in the last week, discuss the retention plans we know about for the current staff, and then discuss what remains to learn about the staff in the coming days.

Penn State Pinstripe Bowl Opt Outs

Next, we’ll review the news surrounding the current team’s status for the Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27. So far, four seniors have announced that they will not play in the upcoming game. Two of those players, Zane Durant and Zakee Wheatley, will attend the Senior Bowl in Mobile next year. Two more, running back Kaytron Allen and Dani Dennis-Sutton, have not made a decision on the Pinstripe Bowl so far.

We’ll discuss why players would opt out of a bowl game, but then play in the Senior Bowl for fans upset with the lack of participation in the season-ending game against Clemson. We’ll also list the seniors remaining who have yet to announce their intentions.

Finally, we’ll review the team’s latest recruiting wins in Fitz’s recruiting udpate.

Penn State has added one of Matt Campbell’s former commits to its Class of 2026, locking up a commitment from Omaha, Neb., native Bryson Williams. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound defensive back committed to Iowa State back in June following an official visit. He also took official visits to Washington State and Vanderbilt. Reporter Ryan Snyder and film analyst Thomas Frank Carr discuss his new fit with Penn State.

After opening up his recruitment, both Minnesota and Purdue made a push for Williams, but it was his relationship with Campbell and defensive back coach Deon Broomfield that put Penn State in a strong position. Williams is also the son of Jamel Williams, who won two national championships at Nebraska in the mid-90s before playing for Washington and Green Bay in the NFL.

Shortly after Penn State Athletic Director Pat Kraft fired head coach James Franklin, Blue White Illustrated had college football personality Josh Pate on the show to discuss the situation. After covering the history of Penn State and the coaching search to that point, Pate outlined what he thinks the next coach needs to be successful at Penn State. After listing off qualities, he gave a name.

“Matt Campbell’s always been that guy for me.”

Roughly two months later, Kraft flew out to Ames, Iowa, to meet Campbell and offer him the job. Today, he’s the 17th head coach for Penn State football, and Pate is back on the BWI YouTube channel to take a well-earned victory lap. You can hear the entire 30-minute conversation embedded in the article above or on our YouTube Channel.

Be sure to subscribe to the BWI YouTube Channel so you don’t miss any special guest appearances, breaking news, or commitment announcements over the next several weeks and months as Campbell builds his staff and roster at Penn State.

Pate does not hold back on criticism over Penn State coaching search

While most of the interview discusses how Campbell will fit at Penn State and why this was such a great hire, Pate doesn’t hold back on criticism about how the search was handled by Kraft.

“Yeah, they circumnavigated the globe to find treasure in their own backyard, is the way that I described it. So now that it's done and it's in our rearview mirror, and we know who the hire is going to be. I personally am happy about the hire. Anyone up there who's not eventually will be happy about the hire, because he'll win games.”

Pate also said that the reason he was so confident in suggesting Campbell is because he knew how well Campbell would fit the job and that Penn State was a position that Campbell would consider leaving Iowa State for, unlike other job offers he’s gotten in the past.

“The reason I threw Matt's name out there is because I knew if this job was presented properly, if this search was handled the right way, he'd be a strong candidate. His name would be in the mix for it, and that certainly is not because, like you said, he was looking to leave.”

Check out the rest of the interview to hear what he had to say about the search, Campbell and the next steps for Penn State.
