Penn State football has been a .500 team with embattled quarterback Sean Clifford at the helm for the past two seasons. However, many fans are frustrated that Clifford is the presumed starter heading into next Fall. So the host of the BWI Daily Edition, Thomas Frank Carr, is endeavoring to find out how the Nittany Lions can be successful next season by looking to the past. He's examining the 2019 Penn State football team through PFF data to determine what they did to win ten games and threaten a College Football Playoff spot. Today he looks at the rest of the offense around Clifford to see what was different from 2019 to 2021, and then he projects to the future.
T-Frank starts by looking at the Penn State pass protection from both seasons. While the offensive line was bad in 2021, was the 2019 team better? He finds some interesting results and shares them.
Next, he takes a look at the receivers, breaking down the deep threats, chain movers, and YAC players from both seasons. How do second-round picks Pat Freiermuth and KJ Hamler stack up against first-round wideout Jahan Dotson and his teammates? T-Frank found that several things were the same while the situation was different.
Finally, he takes a deep dive into the Penn State running game from both seasons. He examines the offensive line and the runners to see where Penn State fell short in 2021.

The BWI Daily Recruiting show sets the stage for a busy summer of Penn State recruiting news today. As we enter the second half of the month, recruiting news focuses on official visit lists and when players take their trips to various schools. Insider Ryan Snyder joins reporter Greg Pickel to dish that information and more.
Pickel starts the show by discussing the upcoming timeline for commitments this summer. Snyder predicts that it will be a busy July, just like last year. Next, they dive into Snyder's recruiting prediction this week for a Florida defensive back. He outlines when he expects the player to commit and what gave him the confidence to put the pick in now.
Next, they break down the movement for Penn State targets in the On300 rankings for the Class of 2024. First, Snyder and Pickel discuss which players moved where and how that affected the Nittany Lion's one commit for the cycle, offensive lineman Cooper Cousins. Next, they explain why the rankings have been updated already.
After that, Pickel opens up the topic of top school lists by critical recruits. Penn State made the cut for DeMatha Catholic defensive lineman Jason Moore and linebacker Dee Crayton. How do the Lions fare in those recruitments? Snyder gives his insight and explains how Penn State's priorities have shifted at linebacker. He brings up a critical name that fans should know at the middle linebacker position.

Penn State football enters the summer months trying to build a winning team for the upcoming season. But the man at the center of that effort, quarterback Sean Clifford, is a sticking point for most fans. How can the team win with a player that helped guide them to a roughly .500 winning mark over the last two seasons?
Today on the BWI Daily Edition, host Thomas Frank Carr tries to answer both questions by looking back to the last time Penn State had a successful season; 2019.
To start that examination off, he starts with the embattled Clifford. After all, he’s one of the few holdovers from ’19 and plays the most important position in football. So first, T-Frank dives into the PFF grades and numbers to see how the two versions of Clifford stack up. Then finally, he examines how Clifford’s injury impacted his performance last season.

This week, Penn State football hit the halfway mark with the Class of 2023 when four-star receiver Ejani Shakir committed to the program. With Shakir on board, the Nittany Lions now have 12 members in the class heading into the critical official visit portion of the recruiting calendar. So today on the BWI Daily Edition, host Thomas Frank Carr and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder to discuss Shakir's commitment and then recap the class before the summer months.
Penn State Lands Ejani Shakir
T-Frank and Snyder start by discussing Shakir's decision to join Penn State. Snyder recaps the four-star receiver's journey and explains where he fits on Penn State's priority list this year. Next, he and T-Frank discuss what school Shakir transferred to this winter and how that can help his relationship with the program. Next, T-Frank assesses Shakir's skills from his film evaluation. Finally, they discuss where Shakir fits in the offense.
Afterward, they recap the rest of the class as of the episode's airing. Snyder and T-Frank start on offense and discuss which positions are now closed and which ones still have work to do. T-Frank spends some extra time and attention on the offensive line group, which is the strength of the class.
Finally, they discuss the defense, which has fewer commitments. Instead, they focus on names to know at positions with no commitments so that fans can keep an eye out for news.

Penn State recruiting heads into the summer months with plenty of work ahead of them. Despite May being a quiet period for news, there's still plenty going on with the staff as they circle the country during the "evaluation period" of the recruiting calendar. Today, the BWI Daily recruiting show looks at several topics this spring, including the NCAA's NIL guideline announcement.
Host Greg Pickel starts with the news that the NCAA released guidelines for how NIL should work in college sports. Will that do anything? And how will the NCAA enforce rules against collectives? Then, Pickel and recruiting insider Ryan Snyder give their thoughts.
Next, the duo discusses players that have released their final list of schools heading into the summer official visit period. They focus on Alabama safety TJ Metcalf, who had Penn State in his final list of schools. After that, they broaden the discussion from Metcalf to all players releasing their top schools. So how should fans know if Penn State has a chance to land a player? Finally, Pickel and Snyder give you a helpful tip to know if your team is in the running.
After that, they discuss Snyder's most recent recruiting prediction. This week, he put in a pick for Georiga offensive lineman Zech Owens, and he explains why.
Finally, Pickel and Snyder give their most intriguing announced official visit. Pickel chooses Owens, but Snyder brings up a name that might surprise Penn State fans. More surprising is the reason why.

Which positions have the best battles shaping up for Penn State football in the Fall? Where are the weak points on the roster? To set the stage for the summer months, the BWI Daily Edition is looking at the Penn State depth chart coming out of spring practice. Greg Pickel watched all the film from the Blue-White Game and built a depth chart based on what he saw during the scrimmage. He joins host Thomas Frank Carr to discuss which positions need reinforcements over the summer.
Pickel and T-Frank go through the roster position by position, starting with quarterback. Then, they cycle through the offense before heading to the other side of the line of scrimmage to see if anyone made a move on the Penn State defense. Key spots of interest include running back, receiver, linebacker, and safety. T-Frank also draws attention to the secondary, where good players might have a limited role thanks to depth and numbers.
