Now in year two of the Kenny Dillingham era for Arizona State Sun Devils football, the expectations have been raised for both sides of the football. Defensively, the Sun Devils played very well under defensive coordinator Brian Ward last year and his return along with an influx of talent from youngsters to returners and even the NCAA Transfer Portal, the hope is the unit can be even better in 2024. The Sun Devils under Ward became a much-improved group from their 2022 counterparts, among the country's worst defenses. It started with veteran players, of which Arizona State Sun Devils football has plenty. Youngsters in the wings are also ready to break out, including C.J. Fite, Keith Abney, Montana Warren, K'Vion Thudnerbird, and Keontez Bradley. There are a few big-time breakout candidates as well in Clayton Smith and Xavion Alford. With everything culminating together, the expectations are high for a group that can continue progressing forward and even become a great defense.
