Phases, home station checks, and other periodic maintenance inspections are VITAL to maintain the lifespan of an aircraft. Despite this, many senior level officials will gloss over these inspections for the sake of having the plane back into its operation cycle. Actions like these can result in a best-case scenario of turning into hangar queens or worst case a catastrophic failure. Periodic maintenance inspections have a pre-planned schedule, however the planned vs actual inspection completion varies directly with the condition of the aircraft prior to the execution of it's planned maintenance interval. In almost every case, for the sake of continued operation, discrepancies are deferred until its next periodic maintenance plan. Again however, for the sake of operations, thorough periodic maintenance actions are rushed in order to have the aircraft back into service.

Ground support equipment is needed to service an aircraft in between flights. However, these equipment require maintenance of their own, which typically gets ignored or it can’t keep up with the pace set by the aircraft it services. This leads to Frankenstein fixes to get the GSE to work just enough to finish the job.

There are times when the job MUST get done. More often than not, you don’t have the essentials to get it done. This results in improvising and using what’s available to make it work regardless if it’s the right thing to do or not.

Mealtime is a much-anticipated break in a workday. For some of us, be it for work schedules or manpower shortages, those breaks don’t exist. In other cases, you’re given more than your stomach can handle. With such a high work demand, it’s either Feast or Famine.
Aircraft fuel is some of the most nasty, hazardous things to work with, it’s even worse if you are the unlucky soul who must don the suit and dive into the fuel tank. Picture the pleasant scenery of being stuffed into tight, dark spaces filled with toxic fumes and the sheer annoyance of possibly getting trapped inside. Oh, the JOYS of tank diving!

Many of us have dreamed of working on planes or flying one. For many, the road to such is at best foggy. However, there are many programs out there that can help you realize your dream. If you have the dedication, you can achieve anything. In this episode, we’ll share with you some ways to make your dream that much closer to you!
Today we are joined with Tim Kirschbaum, co-founder of and director of airline engagement for RTAG. RTAG is the largest charity of its kind in the world. RTAG helps all veterans, regardless of experience, jumpstart their post military career in the world of aviation. RTAG also helps its corporate partners get direct access to pilots, maintainers, technicians, dispatchers and more.
Tim shares with us some of his experiences as a pilot and lends some information how aspiring veterans can gain access into aviation careers. Some programs are either never mentioned or so glossed over, most veterans don't know how to fully utilize the program. For more information about some of the programs being offered, visit www.rtag.org or @RTAG Nation on Facebook.

individuals are called master craftsmen. The journey to become a master craftsman takes hours of
dedication, learning, and perfection of their skill. They are forever students, constantly improving their
skills and continue to push the limits of what we would call a masterpiece.
