Bob, Jr. shared memories of his father, and played highlights from a treasure trove of vintage audio from his father's broadcasts of Portland Buckaroos hockey, Portland Beavers baseball, OSU football and, of course, the Seattle Supersonics (including a postgame interview from 1971 with Wilt Chamberlain).

After many years of sitting empty on a prominent piece of land near Puget Sound along Marine View Drive South, a demolition permit will likely be issued by the City of Des Moines, WA on Friday, August 8, 2025.

The land and buildings are owned by a private developer called Zenith whose plans for the site have not been revealed. CASCADE OF HISTORY reached out to two different companies associated with Zenith to request an interview, but we have not heard back.

On this BONUS EPISODE, Feliks Banel's guest is Lewis County Commissioner Scott Brummer with the latest on the sale of Claquato Church, southwest of Chehalis, Washington.

The 1858 Claquato Church in Lewis County, Washington declared surplus in July by Lewis County and put up for sealed bid auction. This took the community by surprise, until it was revealed that Lewis County had been in discussions about the future of the church with the nearby Claquato Cemetery. One bid was received last week by the July 31, 2025 deadline. The bidder is Claquato Cemetery, as was expected by many.

Lewis County Commissioner Scott Brummer spoke with CASCADE OF HISTORY late Monday, August 4, 2025 to share the specifics of the bid – including the amount the Claquato Cemetery offered for the sale, and the promises made in the proposal to restore and maintain the Claquato Church. Preserving the historic structure is required by the buyer in a covenant attached to the property by Lewis County. Commissioner Brummer also addresses questions about the transparency of the process, and about perceptions of an unfair tilt toward the Claquato Cemetery’s proposal – since they had months of additional time to prepare a proposal that other potential bidders did not have.

On this BONUS EPISODE, we present audio of the public comment at the Sumner, WA City Council Meeting of Monday, August 4, 2025. This is the first such meeting held since the Ryan House was demolished. The historic structure was demolished, beginning after dark on July 24, 2025 (just over 10 days ago) by its owner, the City of Sumner.

CASCADE OF HISTORY broadcast live from the Ryan House on two occasions this year, including on Sunday, July 27, 2025 – just a few days after the demolition. The community group – Save Ryan House – put up a sincere and transparent attempt to work with the City of Sumner to preserve and restore the 150-year old home, but the City Sumner appeared to never really listen to any of the proposed solutions and charged ahead.

With a vintage aircheck and two long excerpts from an oral history recorded by WSU Professor Hugh Rundell in the late 1970s, we hear directly from Pat O’Day about his early influences and his peripatetic radio career around the Evergreen State (and a corner of the Beaver State). O’Day, born Paul Berg, made his Seattle debut on KAYO – and introduced his “Pat O’Day” deejay name – on February 1, 1959. O'Day passed away on August 4, 2020.
