They are now at 33 games played this season and the Celtics got to do battle with Gordon Haywards former team the Utah Jazz. The Celtics after starting the season off with some big time victories over some of the top teams in the NBA have now begun to have the weight of their schedule and injuries play a role in causing the Celtics to lose to some of the worst teams in the league. The Celtics to this point have played the most game of any team in the NBA season to this point. The Celtics of course thanks to the injury to Gordon Hayward have not played a single game this season with the entire roster intact and it has only gotten worse as the season has continued to progress. With injuries to big men Marcus Morris and Al Horford, 2nd year Forward Jaylen Brown and All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to name a few the team has struggled since our last show to find an offensive groove in particular the bench as the team has been forced to play several games without some of their key players and it has cost them games against teams like the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz. The Celtics Talk Crew will discuss the latest on the injury front including what the team says its doing to try and deal with Marcus Morris recovery from a knee injury. Also whats the latest on Gordon Haywards recovery is it looking more likely that he could be back this season and whats his thoughts on the possibility we will discuss that and the last 3 games and if fans should worry about the teams recent trend or hold on pushing the panic button. December 02, 2017Celtics Talk Radio episode 183 the Quarter Mark of the NBA SeasonThe NBA Season began back on October 17th for the Boston Celtics and they started the season in a way that no team wants to start its season. They started by losing a Star player. Back on October 17th the Celtics lost All-Star Guard Gordon Hayward to a fractured ankle and many NBA experts immediately wrote them off as a team that coul make it tothe Eastern Conference Finals and stand in the way of the Cavaliers and Warriors meeting in the NBA Finals. The Celtics started the season 0-2 losing in the same game that Haywards injury occurred to Lebron James and the Cavs before losing the next night to the Milwaukee Bucks. After that the Celtics would go on a winning streak that would prove to many people that this team may not need Hayward in order to get to the Eastern Conference Finals. A winning streak that would see the Celtics knock off teams with some of the top superstars in the league like the Oklahoma City Thunder which have Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony. The Toronto Raptors with Kyle Lowry and Demar Derozan and even the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors with Draymond Green, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant. The Celtics after that win would climb to the #1 spot in the power rankings while also having the best record in the NBA. Now at the quarter mark of the NBA season where do we sit. Are the Celtics still on a winning streak which means its now 20 in a row which would be a franchise record. Or did someone manage to stop them. Are they still in 1st place in the East? What about the League overall? We will discuss those topics with Matt Rury of the CLNS Celtics Post Game Show and Celtics Journalist Chris Langseth...more3h 59minPlay
November 18, 2017Celtics Talk Radio Episode 182 the Celtics defeat NBA Champs for 14th in a rowThe Celtics over the last week took on 3 playoffs caliber teams with 1 of those teams being the defending NBA Champions the Golden State Warriors. On our last show the Cetics win streak had increased all the way to 10 games in a row to give them a 10-2 record which was best in the NBA. The very next night the Celtics would take on the Charlotte Hornets. They entered the game knowing they would not have Al Horford who would miss his 2nd game in a row but would have Jayson Tatum available to play. Less then 2 minutes into the game Kyrie Irving was lost due to taking an elbow in the face by teammate Aron Baynes as Baynes was landing after trying to go for a rebound. The Celtics would play the rest of the game without Irving meaning none of the big 3 were able to play in the game yet the Celtics still walked away victorious 90-87 over the Hornets despite falling behind by 18 points in the 1st half. The Celtics announced Kyrie Irving suffered a facial fracture and would now need to wear a mask. He would miss the next game when the Celtics took on the Raptors but the Celtics would get Al Horford back in the game. The Celtics despite 43 points combined between Kyle Lowry and Demar Derozan managed to hold on for a 95-94 win thanks to a great defensive effort in the final minute when the Raptors had not 1 but 2 chances to hit what could have been the game winning shot. Kyrie Irving would travel with the team 2 days later to Brooklyn after being fitted for a mask as the Celtics would take on the Nets. The Celtics would take care of business in Brooklyn 92-88 as all 5 members of the starting 5 scores 14 or more to make it 13 wins in a row and that would set up the biggest game of the season Celtics vs Warriors with both teams on winning streaks. November 02, 2017Celtics Talk Radio Episode 180 Where The Celtics Stand at the start of NovemberIts been just over 2 weeks since the start of the NBA season and since the Boston Celtics lost Gordon Hayward to what many believe was a season ending injury in the Celtics season opening loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Since then the Celtics have had to deal with injuries also to Marcus Smart and Marcus Morris while trying to get back on track after starting the season 1-2 through their first 3 games which we discussed in our last show back on October 21st. The NBA Season has started off pretty strange with several of the top teams struggling to find their mojo that included even the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. So now as we start the month of November over the last few days the Celtics have had to face the Miami Heat, the San Antonio Spurs and the Sacramento Kings. The Celtics have used great performances and ball movement from their youngest players like Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier and Jayson Tatum combined with the leadership of Al Horford and Kyrie Irving to get themselves from the celler of the Eastern Conference to the top of the Eastern Conference while also getting the best defense in the NBA. Meanwhile on our recent video chat Daniel and Igor broke the news that Danny Ainge and the team were approved an 8.4 million dollar Disabled Player Exception that would allow Danny Ainge to sign or trade for a player to replace Gordon Hayward. We will discuss that more in detail for those who didnt see the chat and let you know whats the latest on Haywards recovery and if the team or his agent have come out to shoot down the doctors that have said he could return this season if things go well in his recovery. We will be joined by Rich Conte @richconte of the TechLifPod Podcast and Chris Langseth @Hans02421 as we discuss those topics on this 3 hour edition of Celtics Talk Radio...more3h 59minPlay
October 21, 2017Celtics Talk Radio Episode 179 The Celtics Regular Season Begins vs The CavsThe highly anticipated Opening Night matchup between the Boston Celtics and the defending Eastern Conference Champion Cleveland Cavaliers has come and gone. The opening night matchup was our chance to see how much the Celtics have closed the gap on the Cavaliers for the best team in the Eastern Conference and the game lived up to the hype as the Celtics managed to put up a fight down in Cleveland however the game was overshadowed by an event that occured just over 5 minutes into the 1st quarter. Gordon Hayward suffered an injury to his left going for an alley oop pass. Hayward had contact made as he was in the air by both Lebron James and Jae Crowder this resulted in Hayward coming down awkwardly on his left leg resulting in him suffering a fractured ankle and a broken tibia according to the team doctors from both the Cavs and Celtics who worked to attend to him. Hayward would then be flown to Boston where the very next night he would go into surgery. The Celtics would go on to lose that game by just 3 points despite having to adjust on the fly to a new rotation. The next night the Celtics would be forced to go into action against the Milwaukee Bucks playing their season opener this game taking place in the TD Garden in Boston. The Celtics would go into playing this game while knowing Gordon Hayward would being going into surgery at any moment. Gordon Hayward did make a surprise appearance for the fans on the jumbotron giving a message from his hospital bed before going into surgery which got the fans to give a loud ovation however the Celtics would lose this game also as the new starting lineup seemed to have issues working together knowing they had to try and adjust in less then 24 hours and play a well rested Bucks team. The team would pick up their first win 2 nights later over the 76ers down in Philly but had to do with without Marcus Smart and Marcus Morris. We are now only 10 days away from the Regular Season opener which will see the Celtics in Cleveland to take on the Cavaliers but first they need to get through the preseason and the Celtics have started that. Having played the Hornets at home in the TD Garden on October 2nd. Then 4 nights later traveled to take on the 76ers in the Wells Fargo Center. We now have a 2 game sample to see what it is Brad Stevens is planning to do with this team. In particular who is he planning to use to make up his starting 5. The questions all of us have been debating may have been answered already knowing the Preseason this year is so small compared to previous season. Who has Brad Stevens chosen as the Starting Center will it be Al Horford and if so who will be the Power Forward alongside him. We all know Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward along with Al Horford were gonna start so other then the other big man who is still a mystery how about the 5th player is is Jaylen Brown like many have been feeling. Or did Brad Stevens opt to keep Jaylen on the bench and is working on a different starting 5. September 07, 2017Celtics Talk Radio Episode 176 Celtics play hardball to complete Irving dealThe Cleveland Cavaliers ownership and management showed just how much of a desperate situation they are in during the recent stunt they tried to pull against Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics. On the last episode of Celtics Talk Radio we discussed the deal that had been reportedly agreed to which was reported as the Celtics sending Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets 2018 1st round picks to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving. A move that many felt was good for both sides. However just like all NBA Trades the deal can no become official unless all players that are moving in the deal pass a physical or the teams accept whatever physical issue the player who fails the physical has. The Cleveland Cavaliers would complain about Isaiah Thomas's hip after he took his physical with them and would use it as a way to threaten the Celtics in hopes of Danny Ainge giving up even more of his valuable assets to get the deal done. For over a week Celtics and Cavaliers fans alongside NBA Analysts had to sit and watch the Cavs look ridiculous in their demands and not get the response they wanted out of Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics management. Ultimately the Cavaliers would give in and accept the deal with the Celtics giving them a 2020 2nd round pick via the Miami Heat on top of everything else they had already been given. So now the Celtics Talk Crew will discuss what happened since the last show. How bad did the Cavaliers make themselves look throughout this process. How about Danny Ainge how good did he make himself look by taking a hard stance and showing the Cavs he would be willing to let the deal get voided despite knowing what the risk were. The Celtics Talk Crew for this episode will be joined by Chris Langseth and will also be having the newest members of the We Bleed Green Celtics Fan Forum/Celtics Talk Radio team join them...more2h 59minPlay
