Jamie Parish is in his 13th year at Sioux Falls Washington High School, where he teaches physical education and serves as the head girls basketball coach.

Jamie is a native of Yankton, South Dakota.

He earned his education degree from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, a master's degree in physical education from the University of South Dakota and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Sioux Falls.

His coaching journey has included stops at the University of South Dakota, Mount Marty College and Hot Springs, along with serving as the head girls basketball coach and athletic director at Centerville and the head girls basketball coach at Vermillion.

And his résumé speaks for itself.

Coach Parish has the unique distinction of coaching state tournament qualifiers in all three classifications of South Dakota girls basketball.

During his career, his teams have made numerous state tournament appearances and he's won four state championships, including the 2007 championship at Vermillion and championships at Sioux Falls Washington in 2015, 2021 and 2023.

But what I really like about today's conversation is that we're not just talking about what Jamie has won.

We're talking about how he develops players and builds a program.

My guest today is Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame coach Kevin Orr, longtime head coach at Rice Lake High School.

Coach Orr has spent more than two decades building successful basketball programs, winning hundreds of games, conference and regional championships, and leading Rice Lake to back-to-back appearances in the Wisconsin Division 2 state championship game.

But today's conversation isn't really about the wins.

It's about culture, relationships, leadership, trust—and getting players to become completely invested in something bigger than themselves.

Kevin has a phrase that I absolutely love:

“All In or Average.”

We're going to talk about what that looks like inside a basketball program. How do you move players from simply participating to becoming fully invested? How do you intentionally teach leadership and character? And how do you create experiences where your players learn that being part of a team is about serving others?

Then we're going to take that culture onto the basketball court.

We're going inside one of the most unique defenses I've come across—the Squid 2-1-2 Pressure Defense.

Why Squid?

Because Kevin wanted five defenders to feel like 10 arms surrounding an offense—getting into passing lanes, creating deflections, forcing uncomfortable shots and making opponents feel like there was nowhere comfortable to go.

We'll break down the philosophy behind Squid, how Kevin teaches it, and some of the different ways Rice Lake can create pressure with GO, LAVA and GATOR.

But what really interests me is the connection between the two.

You can't play an aggressive, trapping defense without communication. You can't rotate without trust. You can't create pressure without effort. And you can't build something special with players who are only halfway invested.

Marcus Dilligard is the newly appointed Athletic Director and Varsity Boys Basketball Head Coach at Hilton Head Christian Academy in Bluffton, South Carolina.

A proven program builder with more than 16 years of experience in athletics, Dilligard brings an extensive background in coaching, athletic administration, player development, and Christian leadership. He played collegiate basketball at Furman University before continuing his playing career professionally in South America.

Prior to joining HHCA, Dilligard served as Athletic Director and Head Men's Basketball Coach at Grace Christian Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he oversaw 17 athletic programs, more than 60 teams, and 85 staff members while helping maintain a 90% student-athlete participation rate.

Coach John Wild is one of Tennessee high school basketball’s most accomplished and respected coaches, with a career built on championships, relationships, adaptability, and a lifelong commitment to learning.

A native of Lilburn, Georgia, Wild’s basketball roots were shaped by influential coaches and mentors before his journey eventually took him to Tennessee. Over more than three decades, he has coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball and built a remarkable résumé that includes 600+ career victories and three TSSAA State Championships.

Wild captured the 1999 Class A boys state championship at Moore County, followed by the 2000 Class A girls state championship at Bradford, becoming one of the rare coaches in Tennessee history to win state titles in both boys’ and girls’ basketball. He later added another championship while leading Riverdale’s girls to the 2012 Class AAA state title.

His coaching journey has also included stops at Lawrence County, college basketball at Lipscomb University, and other programs across Tennessee. Today, Wild serves as the head girls basketball coach at Forrest High School in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, continuing a career defined by teaching, relationships, and a willingness to keep growing.

A standout player at Tennessee Wesleyan College, Coach Dodgen later returned to his alma mater as a successful coach, earning induction into the Tennessee Wesleyan Hall of Fame as both a player and coach. He is also a member of the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School Hall of Fame, the Farragut High School Hall of Fame, the Knoxville Interscholastic League (KIL) Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and most recently the 2025 Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Hall of Fame.

Coach Dodgen began his coaching career at McMinn County High School, later coached at Gatlinburg-Pittman High School, and spent the majority of his career at Farragut High School, where he became synonymous with championship-level success.

Over his career, Coach Dodgen compiled an outstanding 655-309 record in basketball. At Farragut alone, he recorded 308 victories, led the Admirals to the 1982 TSSAA State Tournament, and captured numerous district and region championships.

In 2010, Coach Dodgen became Athletic Director at Farragut High School, where his leadership elevated one of Tennessee's premier athletic programs. Under his direction, Farragut athletes and coaches have captured 13 TSSAA State Championships across multiple sports, reflecting his commitment to excellence beyond basketball.

Coach Dodgen's impact extends far beyond wins and championships. He has spent nearly four decades developing young people, mentoring coaches, building winning cultures, and demonstrating what true servant leadership looks like.

She was also honored as the 2024 Tennessee BCAT Coach of the Year.
