On this episode of the Character Outs podcast, I talk about some of the personality traits that I have as a result of growing up in a toxic family and being raised by a narcissistic mother.
I rattle off a list of things that I have noticed about myself and discuss how my narcissistic mother exacerbated these traits. And as if I didn't feel abnormal enough because I came from a toxic family, I came to the realization that there are parts of my personality that do not look like the majority of the population. Ahhhh the gifts of the narcissistic mother just keep on giving.
I also discuss some of the trauma responses that we can still carry into adult hood that can make us shut down.
But our story does not end with a list of traits, trauma responses, our fucked-up childhood, or our incompetent mother.
On this episode, I hope to make you feel less alone, remind you that you are not crazy and encourage you to embrace the parts of your personality that may be a bit quirky and feisty and to reign in the toxic parts that are not serving you.

On this episode, I read a letter written by Alice that details her journey of survival and hope. Alice is the scapegoat, oldest daughter of four.
She is a survivor of the evil, sadistic, and insidious emotional abuse of her narcissistic mother.
While her mother tried to destroy her and almost did, Alice prevailed.
As she says, 'Going no contact has allowed me the opportunity to prioritize my mental health for the first time."
Her bravery, strength and will to carry on is astounding.
Thank you, Alice, you are amazing.

If no one has told you lately, it's not you, never has been and you are not alone.
Soooooo.......
On this episode of the Character Outs podcast, I speak from a place of vulnerability.
Imma lay it all out there friends...I am in a funk this week.
Recently, something triggered me on a deep level and opened some unhealed wounds that took me a minute to process.
This left me feeling extremely vulnerable and giving me all the feels of abandonment, unworthiness, you name it.. ya know..all that crap that we felt from our toxic families.
What I realized while in my funk is:
*Holy shit, I have given people grace and qualities they don't deserve and actually forget the shitty way they have treated me
*My healing and ability to power through my funk will never be a result of reaching back to my toxic family
*If you were raised in a toxic family, damn we learned to stuff shit, and we learned to stuff it well
Join me as I am just well, me. Navigating these no contact with toxic family waters just like you. Some days are great and other days...not so much. But what kind of host would I be if I told you everything was great all the time..it's not.

We will talk about concrete ways in which you can build your why and your worth.
We also talk about a viewpoint that sometimes we as survivors align with that could potentially leave us with a victim mentality. It is just my opinion, the way I view life and what I've been through, perhaps you can resonate as well.

On this episode of the Character Outs podcast I have Doug Buggle back for part 2!
Doug takes a deep dive into the abuse that he endured while married to his covert narcissistic ex-wife Tammy. We talk about the ways in which she insidiously invaded the relationships with his children. The controlling, humiliating and abusive ways in which she treated Doug. And, what happened to his relationships when Tammy was removed from the equation, particularly with Jim, Tammy's ex-husband.
We discuss where he is today, and how he got to a place of healing. We also discuss the moments in which he realized there was something very wrong with the woman he was married to and how he had the strength to get out.
He also goes into detail about what compelled him to write his book.
"Third Time Was Not a Charm: Surviving Narcissistic Abuse"
His book can be found here:

Enjoy this powerful story and amazing human.
Surviving covert narcissistic abuse whether it be from a spouse, partner or parent is overwhelming. As victims of emotional abuse, we were silent for too long. Our power is in sharing our story, there isn't something wrong with us and it happened exactly as we remember.

If no one has told you lately, it's not you, never has been and you are not alone.
Ready for adulthood? Not if you had a narcissistic mom.
On this episode of the Character Outs podcast, we discuss ways in which our narcissistic mothers failed to prepare us for adulthood. From the lack of character-building conversations, to enabling us, and making us dependent upon her. To teaching us that the only relationship that was important in life was......our relationship with her.
This episode is for all of you who got to adulthood, went no contact with your toxic family, specifically your narcissistic mother and you looked around and went, wait, what?

And if no one has told you lately, it's not you, never has been and you are not alone friend.
On this episode, I sit down with Doug Buggle.
A man with a heart of gold and quite a story to tell.
Doug is a father of two and a recent survivor of narcissistic abuse from his covert narcissistic ex-wife of almost 12 years.
Having had no knowledge of what a narcissist even was, he recounts what it felt like to be under the spell of the narcissist, the toll it took on his physical and mental health, and how he escaped the toxicity. He has written a book called:
"Goodbye Tammy, Third Time Was Not the Charm: Surviving Narcissistic Abuse"
As someone who comes from a toxic family, particularly, surviving the emotional abuse of my covert narcissistic mother, his stories are chillingly relatable.
We discuss what it is about the narcissist that is so captivating and when his eyes started to open.
Doug has so many relatable stories to share and encouragement for those still in the trenches, that we had to do a part 2 which will be released next week.
And if you can't wait to hear more about his story, go download his ebook here:

*What no contact IS NOT:
-a trend
-a result of one misunderstanding
-a grudge
-the inability to forgive
-weakness
This episode is to empower YOU when confronted by the judgemental comments and questions of people who can't wrap their heads around the fact that you have gone no contact with your toxic family.
Let me be clear...this is NOT an episode to convince the haters or teach you to stand there and justify your character and your choice.
No, no, no.....
My friend, this episode is to remind you why you walked away and remind you that you are a badass, strong human for choosing to preserve your peace, the peace of your children and break toxic generational cycles.
