Chestnut Mountain Church

In Malachi 3, we see the children of Israel asking and wondering where God is yet they know they are not living fully for Him, but God tells them through Malachi that He wants their best. God has called us to holiness and He doesn't bless disobedience. Through Jesus, we are refined and then then we will be presented to God as holy and pure on Judgment Day. However, we are either in Christ or not. We are either saved or not saved. We are either guilty or not guilty. In Malachi 2, we see that the priests began giving less than their best to God so the children of Israel did too. It all started with leadership. One crack of compromise that led to disaster. If you have washed by the blood of the Lamb and trusted Jesus as your Savior, we all have the same responsibility as the priests. It is our responsibility to usher people into the presence of an Almighty God who loves them. However, does our lifestyle or our worship proclaim Jesus or is our lifestyle turning people from Jesus? In Malachi 1, we see that the children of Israel are focused on the performance and event of following God instead of being focus on the condition of their heart. One of the devil's biggest distractions for a Christian is to make you busy even if it is for church things. The devil loves to make you busy in the Kingdom so that you will be more busy and focused on the what instead of the why. Don't be so focused on what you are doing that you forget why you are doing it. If we forget why we are doing it, then we might as well not do it. Don't give God your leftovers; give Him your best. God has given the children of Israel everything they need to thrive and continue the mission of God. Because of the circumstances of life, all of that excitement had begun to wear off among the children of Israel and have now started going back to some of the same sinful ruts and routines. Malachi’s job is to call them out on what they are doing. The first thing God tells the children of Israel through His prophet, Malachi, is that He has loved the children of Israel. God is saying “I have loved you, I do love you, and will continue to love you.” Despite your sin, God has loved you, does love you, and will continue to love you. The Father is full of grace, mercy, and forgiveness. No matter how bad the world gets, we win. That’s our hope. That’s our promise. Don’t forget that. God loves you. As the church, we are called to hear the cry, have compassion, and provide. Our vision exists in three layers: (1) churches adopting churches, (2) groups adopting communities, and (3) families adopting families. We want to adopt 3 churches by the end of 2022. We want to adopt 10 communities by the end of 2022. We want to adopt 100 families by the end of 2022. What's our role? Acknowledge the Lord and He will direct your path. Also, listen for the cry, have compassion, and ask God how He would have you provide.

On this Vision Sunday, we share the vision God has given us. This is just the beginning of what God wants to begin here in this CMC family. In looking at the story of Pharoah's daughter finding Moses in the Nile River and adopting him, we see that Pharoah’s daughter heard the cry, she had compassion, and, therefore, she provided. We must have that same mindset in the three layers of our vision. We unpack each layer of our vision moving forward of (1) churches adopting churches, (2) groups adopting communities, and (3) families adopting families. This vision is all about family adoption by hearing the cry, having compassion, and providing the need. This is about seeing the family of God grow. In 2022, our family is going to grow. The family of God is going to grow, but it’s going to take you for it to grow. It’s going to take you to live in surrendered obedience for it to grow. Listen to this sermon from Pastor Brian as he shares the vision of where God has called us to go.

The Church in Ephesus seemed to be like a church doing a pretty good job but they had lost their first love as revealed in the letter to them in Revelation. In its letter in Revelation, the Church of Ephesus is warned of losing its first love. They are doing all the good things on the outside but they have lost their first love. They have lost their zeal for God. It seems this is how the majority of Christians are living in America today. We see the parallel in Jesus' teaching of the Parable of the Ten Virgins. How is our affection today for Jesus? How many people are going through the motions trying to blend in with the people who have oil?
