In Colossians 3:18-21, Paul tells the Colossians how to lead a home by husbands leading their wives, wives submitting to the authority of their husbands, and children obeying their parents. God knows how the family is supposed to function and operate because He created and designed the family. When a family is operating the way God designed it, then it is a reflection of who God is. God has called men to lead. God has placed men to be the head of the home. You start leading your home when you first start following Jesus. In Colossians 3:1-4, Paul tells the Colossians to walk in who they are in Christ. It’s not just about knowing who we are in Christ but now taking advantage of who we are in Christ. If we are in Christ, we should live like it. As Paul reminds the Colossians, we must keep seeking the things above and set our minds on the things above. The more we know about Him, the more we will look like Him. When our affections and love for our Savior grows for who He is, it produces obedience because we are being molded into the image of God. Once we are in Christ, there is nothing the enemy can do to take Christ from us. This is hope. This is victory. Paul is reminding the Colossians of their identity. Being reminded of our identity in Christ is important to us too. Don't forget who you are. Don't forget that in Jesus you are complete. Your salvation has nothing to do with your performance but it has everything to do with what Jesus has already done on your behalf. What would happen if we would die to all the distractions we face and would focus on Christ? Worship God not to receive anything additional from Him but worship in response to what God has already done on our behalf. Focus more on Jesus than on your baggage and watch what He does in your life and in the life of others.
