On this Vision Sunday, we share the vision God has given us. This is just the beginning of what God wants to begin here in this CMC family. In looking at the story of Pharoah's daughter finding Moses in the Nile River and adopting him, we see that Pharoah’s daughter heard the cry, she had compassion, and, therefore, she provided. We must have that same mindset in the three layers of our vision. We unpack each layer of our vision moving forward of (1) churches adopting churches, (2) groups adopting communities, and (3) families adopting families. This vision is all about family adoption by hearing the cry, having compassion, and providing the need. This is about seeing the family of God grow. In 2022, our family is going to grow. The family of God is going to grow, but it’s going to take you for it to grow. In its letter in Revelation, the Church of Ephesus is warned of losing its first love. They are doing all the good things on the outside but they have lost their first love. They have lost their zeal for God. It seems this is how the majority of Christians are living in America today. We see the parallel in Jesus' teaching of the Parable of the Ten Virgins. How is our affection today for Jesus? How many people are going through the motions trying to blend in with the people who have oil? Our fifth value at CMC is surrendered obedience. Humility is not just about thinking about yourself less but it’s about dying to yourself and emptying yourself so there’s room for God to fill you. Active humility is a daily posture and attitude of the heart. It's an active pursuit. It's about a posture and a position. He doesn’t need us to be able. He needs us to be empty. God must increase in our lives and we must decrease. Our fourth value at CMC is surrendered obedience. When God speaks, He will call us to obedience. How many of us have been called by God to do something and it scares us to death? Obedience to God is a scary place to be. God is never going to call you to do something that He isn’t going to provide for. Through the story of Jonah, we see the effects of Jonah's disobedience. However, we also see that God never quit pursuing Jonah just like He never quits pursuing us, even in the midst of our disobedience.
