  • In The Word | The Good News vs. Bad News

In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul is switching from talking about the Good News and now is going to talk about the bad news. Paul talks about the day of the Lord. Everyone will know that Jesus is Lord one day. Which side of the coin will you be on? Will be a believer or an unbeliever? The unbelievers are consumed by darkness and the believers are consumed by light. While we were still yet sinners, Christ died for us. Christ died for you whether you were going to follow Him or not. That’s how much He loves you. Without Christ, there is no hope. As believers, if we don’t tell people about Jesus and the hope we have in Him, who is going to tell them? Listen to this sermon about the day of the Lord and the Good News vs. bad news as believers and unbelievers in the twelfth part of our In The Word series walking through 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.

  • In The Word | Our Hope is in Christ Alone

The future is bright; there’s nothing to fear. In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul writes about the meeting in the air that we are promised as Christians to have one day with the second coming of Jesus. While we cannot comprehend what this meeting will be like and what all the details will be, we can read this passage of Scripture with hope as a Christian. Our hope is found in Christ and Christ alone. Listen to this sermon about how Christ is our only hope and about the future meeting in the air in the eleventh part of our In The Word series walking through 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.

  • In The Word | Empowered to Love

In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul teaches that not only does the Holy Spirit empower us to overcome temptation but also empowers us to love. The love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit. Because of the Holy Spirit pouring out love in our hearts, we are taught how to love. We are called to love one another the way a family loves each another. Now we are called to love each other no matter what. Love each other in spite of our sin. Love requires faithfulness, commitment, and sacrifice while expecting nothing in return. As we learn how to love and allow the Holy Spirit to empower us to love, we see the three ways Paul points out how to love and then why we should love. When a Christian loves the way that God has called us to love, it is appealing to people, even to a lost world. Listen to this sermon about how to love and why we love so that we can be empowered to love one another in the tenth part of our In The Word series walking through 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.

  • In The Word | Does the World See a Difference in You?

In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul reminds the Thessalonians as followers of Christ they are called to be set apart and to take advantage of the resource given to them, the Holy Spirit. As Christians, we have something living in us to help us overcome the temptations of this world, the Holy Spirit. Take advantage of the resource God has given you. Apart from Him we can do nothing. Someone who doesn’t know God lives a life influenced by the flesh. Someone who has been born again lives a life influenced by the Spirit of God living in them. Paul calls the Thessalonians that one way they can live a life set apart is by abstaining from sexual immorality and youthful lust. We have to be disciplined to pursue righteousness and holiness. We must flee from the desires of the flesh. Take advantage of the Holy Spirit living in you. Be disciplined enough to listen to the Holy Spirit. Does the world see a difference in you and how you live? Listen to this sermon about overcoming temptation and pursuing a disciplined life of righteousness in the ninth part of our In The Word series walking through 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.

  • What Do We Do Now?

As Christians, we have a mission, we have been given a message, and we have been given power to carry that message. In Luke 24, after the resurrection, we see Jesus meeting the disciples on their level. He recognized their emotion and response. We see the empathy of our Savior. He is patient with fear and doubts. He also gave them a mission though. Jesus is telling them to stay in the city until they have been clothed with power. Are you willing to wait until you are clothed with power? God has still power for us today. It’s the same power and it’s given in the same way. The pathway to power is intimacy with the Father. We will grow in our intimacy with Him the more we push the world away and the more we focus on Him. It changes everything. We need a fresh obsession with Jesus. Are we willing to wait on Him? Listen to this sermon as we look to what Jesus told the disciples to do after the resurrection as an example of what we are to do as Christians.

  • Easter | Quit Looking in the Wrong Places

We have all lost something. We have all misplaced something in our life. There is nothing more frustrating than when you can’t find what you’re looking for. As we celebrate Easter, we look to the women who went to the tomb and became perplexed when they didn't find Jesus there. The angels told the women that they were perplexed because they were looking in the wrong place and they had forgotten God's Word. In the same way, we are looking in the wrong places for joy, peace, and contentment, and so much more in the world when we forget that Jesus is the only one that can fulfill this. You may find yourself discouraged, frustrated, or in a place of wondering if it’s worth it. Quit looking in the wrong places and be reminded of the truth of God’s Word. God can use your brokenness to open the eyes of others to Him. God is not hiding, and even in your discouragement, He is with you. Listen to this Easter sermon as we celebrate our Risen Savior.

  • Take Time to Remember What Jesus Did

This week is what defines our faith. This week is our identity as believers in Jesus. On Palm Sunday, we take time to remember what Jesus did for us. Jesus desired to lay His life down because of His love for us. For the believer, if we have trusted in Jesus and placed our faith in the finished work of the cross, the Lord’s Supper is the most humbling thing we can participate in as a follower of Christ. Remember what Jesus has done and placed our faith in what He has done even though we have done nothing to deserve it. His body was broken and His blood was shed for you too. Listen to this sermon about taking time to remember what Jesus did through honoring the Lord's Supper as we begin celebrating Easter on Palm Sunday.

  • In The Word | Running the Race of Holiness

In 1 Thessalonians 4:1-3, Paul is talking to these new believers in Thessalonica about running and walking on this Christian journey. This journey with Christ is not about how fast we are moving but the fact that we are always moving forward. We always have to be moving forward. We should be walking in a manner to please God does not mean to earn his love but that we are living for Him. Paul is pushing them to a life of holiness and righteousness. God’s will for your life is your sanctification. Surrender to the hands of the Potter. Listen to this sermon about running the race of holiness in life in the eighth part of our In The Word series walking through 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.

  • In The Word | Keep Praising + Praying

In 1 Thessalonians 3:6-13, we see the selflessness of Paul. Paul was always about other people. If we could imitate the selflessness of Paul, this would change our church, this would change our community, and turn our world upside down. Paul is thanking and praising God for all God is doing in everyone else’s life. Paul is constantly being persecuted, ridiculed, and punished for his faith but he continues to pray for everyone else. Paul is constantly praying for the church of Thessalonica. Paul is continuously praising and praying. May we keep praising and praying always. May our worship be reflective of our gratitude to God and all that He has done. Listen to this sermon about imitating the selflessness of Paul in how we love, praise, and pray in the seventh part of our In The Word series walking through 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.

  • In The Word | Strengthen + Encourage Others

In 1 Thessalonians 3:1-5, we see that Paul wanted to be with his church. Paul wanted to be with other believers. Paul was missing his church family. When is the last time that you have been burdened about a church family member? When is the last time you have been in agony over a brother or sister in Christ? God has called you here to have relationships with people. When you have relationships with people, you begin to love people. When we begin to love and care about other people, it has everything to do with that we are being shaped and molded into the image of Christ. Because Paul couldn’t be in person with the church of Thessalonica, Paul sent Timothy. Paul made a huge sacrifice by sending Timothy. Paul was willing to sacrifice his comfort because of his love of the church. Paul sends Timothy so that he can strengthen, bring support, and stabilize the church of the Thessalonica. We are called to strengthen and encourage one another. Ask God to use you. Ask God to reveal to you who needs to be strengthened and encouraged. Listen to this sermon about strengthening and encouraging others in the sixth part of our In The Word series walking through 1 Thessalonians and 2 Thessalonians.
