Bec, Breeza and Rach  dissect all the round 11 AFL games, discuss goal line technology controversies, interim coaches and poor kicking is bad football.

We catch up with star Brisbane Lions midfielder and former #1 draft selection Cam Rayner. Cam talks to us about the Lions impressive first half of the season and shares with us what makes a good cheese platter.

Dinner table went to school on footy tonight. We shared what we learnt from the Mid Season Draft, what we think of players “having a few drinks” days before playing at the elite level, and finally we learnt the “play on ratio” of each team, how they like to play and how that has translates to offensive scoring #profound.

It was Radiothon at Joy and the Chicks got involved. Bec, Motty and Fi were giving away prizes and chatting to guests.

Jayde de Bondt from North Melbourne FC and Julia Chiera from Darebin Falcons joined us and we managed to squeeze in a little bit of footy chat into the jam packed show too.

The Chicks caught up with absolute legend Zach Merrett from the Bombers about his article about gender equality in footy ‘Join me – this is about more than footy’ and digested a lot at the CTF dinner table – Hawks poor fixturing, Dane Rampe scaling the goal post (WTF), mid-season rookie draft and Shaun Griggs retirement from football.

Jason Tuazon-McCheyne the Founder of Purple Bombers and the Equality project joined us to talk about the Purple Bombers & Bulldogs Pride special North Western Community Pride Night event being held on the 16th of May to celebrate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia. The event is proudly supported by the Victorian Government.

Dinner table included some education about the Rules of the upcoming AFL Mid Season Rookie Draft being held on May 27 and some good news stories about the wonderful work Footy Clubs do for their fans in the community.

Motty, Fi and Rachael dissected all the round 6 AFL games and booing gate on Anzac Day got a good run.

Nick Edwards an Old Geelong FC committee member in charge of women’s football at the club came in to tell us about footy at the grass roots VAFA level in Melbourne. Did you know that 53 of the 77 clubs now have women’s teams? That’s awesome.

Dinner table included footy topics as usual, but we momentarily branched out into cricket this week. We discussed the James Faulkner he’s my boyfriend/he’s not my boyfriend social media storm. We included some commentary from Dr Ryan Storr; lecturer in Sport Development at Western Sydney University, co-founder and director at Proud 2 Play and amongst other things he was also the chief investigator for a funded evaluation for Cricket Australia and Cricket Victoria entitled “Exploring LGBT Inclusion in Australian Cricket”.

And as always, we found a way to make our love for footy shine through.

Fi and Motty discovered that they could cover the entire field without the rest of the team as they reviewed Round 5 of AFLM and chatted to Fiona McLarty Head of Women’s Football at Gold Coast AFLW and Gerry Eeman President of the AFL Fans Association. They also enjoyed dinner for two at the CTF dinner table as they chewed threw some of the off field issues of the week such as the booing of Gary Ablett, Luke Hodge being interviewed during the game and the trolling of female athletes.

 

Bec, Rach and Breeza are none the wiser about Season 2019. In fact on this week’s show the Chicks started a new segment called “Teams that confuse us” Which is basically everyone except Geelong, GWS and West Coast.

But we are a lot wiser about all things AFLW trade and sign period and AFL draft live trading after chatting with AFL Head of Competitions and Player Movement Josh Vanderloo.

Another sparkling episode of Chicks Talking Footy. Bec, Bree and Motty dissected the Round 3 action, the AFLW trade moves and what we think these moves means for the comp as a whole. Dinner table discussions were plentiful, then Nat Edwards, AFL.com.au and Channel 7 footy journalist joined us to talk about….yes, more footy.

Fi and Breeza recapped what was an incredible AFLW Grand Final in front of a record crowd of 53,034. Congratulations to the Adelaide Crows Football Club. What an emotional roller coaster the day itself was!

We caught up with Chyloe Kurdas and relived her emotion of calling the AFLW Grand Final and the significance of the occasion for Womens footy.

We served up some dinner table chat and applaud the Melbourne Football club for running through social media bullying.

Fi and Bec caught up with some inspiring people and panelists at the recent Advancing Women in Sport event hosted by founder of Advancing Women organisation Michelle Redfern. Michelle recently delivered the second Advancing Women in Sport research paper.
