  • Adelaide Crows Ruckman Reilly O’Brien on Chicks Talking Footy
There was something a little bit different about Chicks Talking Footy this week. Did Rachael not bag the Hawks for once? No, that’s not it. Did Bec not do The Feels? No that’s not it. Did they have a new guest host? Yes, that’s it.
Joining Bec and Rachael this week was debutant David Beckett, the self-described caretaker host. He showed endeavour, guts and gave his all for 4 segments. We think he’s got a bright future.
Reilly O’Brien the Adelaide Crows ruckman jumped on the line for a great chat about the game, the club, living in Adelaide and pizza at Don Pyke’s place – he’s really enjoying his footy at the moment and so are we.
Lots of team talk throughout the show and Dave predicts Ross Lyon will be the coach of the Adelaide Crows in 2020 – he might have gone a bit far with that one.

  • Footy Feels and Rainbow banners
Bec launched us off with some feel good footy stories from our listeners (including Josh Kennedy dressed as Elsa from Frozen), things are tightening up with only 4 games left of the home and away season and we went on excursion the Sandringham Zebras Pride Cup and played some of the panel discussion (made up of Angie Greene – Equity Ambassador & CEO and founder of Stand-Up Events, Sean Towner – Mental health and quality advocate, sportsperson and author. Kate McCarthy – Current Saints AFLW player. Drafted into the AFLW in 2016, and named in the All-Australian team in 2017).

  • Mini Pod – Melissa Haberfield (La Trobe University and North Melb AFLW)
Fiona had a really interesting chat with physiotherapist Melissa Haberfield who works at North Melbourne during the AFLW season and is also part of a La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre looking at injury prevention in women’s footy.

  • Chicks Talking Footy
Bree, Fi and Motty got their teeth stuck into good old fashioned footy talk this week. Round 18 showed us that some teams are stepping up and will be right there in the mix come September and others are definitely not.
Fiona had a really interesting chat with physiotherapist Melissa Haberfield who works at North Melbourne during the AFLW season and is also part of a La Trobe University research team looking at injury prevention in women’s footy.
The Final Quarter a documentary that was on television last week took a close look at the continuous booing of Adam Goodes in the last couple of years of his career and was a hot discussion topic between the chicks. If you didn’t catch it last week, do yourself a favour and watch the doco on tenplay.com.au. It is a challenging 90 mins but something everyone should see, footy fan or not #istandwithadam.
Sadly there was no room for the world famous segment No Warning (we forgot to give you warning about that) but we will definitely make sure it is doubly good for next weeks show.
PLUS we had a visit from a special friend of the show Hazel pictured with us here.

  • Chicks Talking Footy back in the game
Feeza, Breeza and Rachael were back on the airwaves after their mid season break. We jumped straight into all things AFL for Round 17 and caught up with Head of AFLW Football at the WestCoast Eagles Adam Selwood. Adam provided a wonderful into into his transition from his playing career to head of AFLW football at the Eagles, and how the Eagles AFLW list is taking shape ahead of the 2020 season.
We also caught up with the CEO of the Sandringham Football Club David Cannizzo and learnt about all the Clubs wonderful work being done in the Diversity and Inclusion space and the upcoming Sandringham Pride Cup being held on 28 July. See below details.
Dinner table was served sunny (Gold Coast Suns) side up. Tune in!

  • Chicks Talking Footy with Motty, Bec and Rachael
It’s not your normal Chicks Talking Footy instalment this week as we were unexpectedly graced with the presence of eminent rap artist DJ Beccy D, aka Bec Dahl.
Bec showed us rap skills none of us new she had, least of all her. We expect The Voice to be getting in touch very soon.
We also managed to squeeze in loads of footy talk plus popular new segments The Feels and No Warning. You’ll have to listen to find out what on earth they are.
Chicks Talking Footy are now on a break for 2 weeks and will resume normal transmission on 17 July, in the meantime enjoy The Bench with DJ Beccy D and Dave from Geelong.

  • Behaviour Awareness
There may be less games being played during the Bye Rounds but the off-field shenanigans made up for it! From Sydney Stack high fiving Eddie Betts, to Stratton’s opponents feeling the pinch…literally, to behaviour awareness offices AKA the over correction fun police (not to mention Jeff Kennett did it again) to betting scandals at Collingwood Football Club    .There was never a dull moment and we were exhausted ourselves with all our opinions (and other peoples).

Motty, Bree and Bec can really talk a lot about footy. Emma Quayle from GWS talked recruiting and the amazing new segment No Warning was launched. We loaned a little from Bob Murphy’s insights at the dinner table, listened to Peggy O’Neal from Richmond talk about her recent AO honour and basically talked as much as we could about footy, and then some.
