Hong Kong is under siege from the Chinese Communist Party, as Hong Kong police under the guidance of Chief Executive Carrie Lam rule with an iron fist, arresting protesters like Joshua Wong. But Hong Kongers are still fighting back, with an underground protest movement, while free newspapers like Apple Daily, run by Jimmy Lai, struggle against authoritarianism. Meanwhile, the Pope remains silent on Hong Kong as the Vatican pens a deal with China to appoint Catholic bishops inside China. Joining us once again on the China Unscripted Podcast is Benedict Rogers, Co-founder and Chief Executive of Hong Kong Watch.

The Chinese military has gained access to the personal data on millions of influential people around the world, including Americans, and yes, including their Tiktok data. This was the findings of China expert Christopher Balding who's responsible for the Zhenhua data leak. Zhenhua is a Chinese company that was gathering data on millions of people worldwide the Chinese Communist Party would like to influence and bend to their will. 

China's espionage activities in the United States have come to light after it was revealed a NYPD police officer, Baimadajie Angwang, an ethnic Tibetan, was allegedly spying on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party. US China relations are in trouble. Meanwhile, China rewrote a bible story about Jesus. This time, Jesus stones a woman to death. China has also greatly expanded detention centers in Xinjiang for Uyghur Muslims. Plus Trump and China face off at the United Nations, with Xi Jinping making a very ambition promise to the UN to become carbon neutral by 2060.

The India China border dispute continues to spiral out of out control as clashes between both sides turn deadly. But it's part of a much bigger strategy by China, part of what's called Comprehensive National Power, to strangle India, by gaining influence in countries surrounding India, like Nepal and Pakistan, as well as disputed border territories along the Line of Actual Control like Ladakh, the Galwan Valley, and the Arunachal Pradesh. China has been massively expanding Uyghur Concentration Camps in Xinjiang, according to a review of satellite images by Buzzfeed News' Megha Rajagopalan, Alison Killing and Christo Buschek. Combined with the exposure from Disney's live action release of Mulan, which was filmed in Xinjiang, and the horrible crimes of the Chinese Communist Party is being revealed for the world to see.

President Donald Trump has threatened to ban the Chinese app WeChat and TikTok over national security concerns. But many overseas Chinese depend on WeChat to communicate with family and friends in China. And Corporate America, including Apple, do big business on WeChat. So it's causing controversy. Joining us to debate the WeChat ban is Zhou Fengsuo, one of the student leaders during the Tiananmen Square protests and the founder of Humanitarian China which Promotes rule-of-law, human rights, and freedom of expression. Also joining us is Dr. Yang Jianli, who was also involved in the Tiananmen Square protests. He runs Citizen Power Initiatives for China, which brings together Chinese rights activists to bring a peaceful transition to a Democratic China. 

China's hostage diplomacy threatens foreigners living in China. Like the two Canadians Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor arrested in China as retaliation for the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou. Joining us today is Peter Dahlin, Director of Safeguard Defenders, was arrested in China and forced to make a televised confession on Chinese state run media.
