  • Pokemon Go v3
Chip and Cern have hit 50 episodes and have been at it for over a year now. If you have missed any episodes give us a look on iTunes.   If you missed any of the older Pokemon Go episodes check out Pokemon Go v1 and v2.    Chip and Cern have still been playing Pokemon Go, but not at the pace that they started out. It was something to do on the bus for Chip, so he kept playing.    Cern plays still because his kids are still really into the TV show and cards, so Cern won’t stop playing for a while.   Pokemon Go was getting a little boring catching all the same “basic AF” Pokemon like Pidgey, Rattas, and the like.    There was a Halloween event that really bumped the interest back up in Pokemon for Chip and Cern.   Niantic added the Ditto which really made Chip catch hella rats and Pidgeys and other “garbage ‘mons.”   Cern’s brother is #fakenews with the Pokemon news that he tries to break to Chip and Cern. He should work for TMZ/ Fox News or something. Chip doesn’t trust Cern’s brother for news anymore.   Niantic announced they were going to release Generation 2 (Gen 2) Pokemon on December 15th. The only way to get the Gen 2 Pokemon are to hatch them via eggs (2km, 5km or 10km). Chip thinks this is to slow roll the new ‘mons into the world to not fuck it up.   Chip spent actual money, 20 bucks, on the Pokemon Go game buying some coins. He also made up a new work “incubations.” He has been trying to hatch more eggs to get these Gen 2 and hatched 2 Igglybuffs or whatever the fuck they are called.   Cern is most impressed by the amount of stardust Chip has which is 415k at the time of this recording.    Chip and Cern are hoping for a Christmas event where the full Gen 2 is released. Cern is hoping for the 3 birds and double XP day. Chip would like that too so they can level up quickly.    Both Chip and Cern are pissed about the speed block that Niantic put in place for safety purposes.    Don’t forget you can get a free Chip and Cern Show t-shirt when you buy a hat from the shop.    Are you still playing Pokemon Go? Give us a shout on Twitter, Facebook or email.   Chip and Cern are excited about cool collaboration with Elemental Supply Co.    Be sure to spread the word around and tell your friends about the Chip and Cern Show. • Top Music Videos
Chip and Cern tackle the top music videos of the 80’s , 90’s and 00’s. Chip missed out on most music videos in his youth, and has never seen the Thriller music video. They break down the top 10 videos for each decade to decide what needs to be seen for good cultural context and references.   Chip was getting into a big Weird Al kick and his wife said “this is just like the Beat It music video,” to which Chip had never seen that or Thriller. So Chip thought there is some iconic music videos that cannot be missed.   MTV was the birth of the music video which debuted on August 1st 1981. The first music video was Video Killed the Radio Star. The second was Pat Benatar, You Better Run.    Cern has some great knowledge of these music videos because his dad would always watch MTV when Cern was in his youth.   80’s   10. Chip and Cern lost focus during a few of these music videos which their hormones took over for a bit.

Chip and Cern call the end of TRL the end of music videos on TV. Now all music videos are on YouTube.

Chip asked Siri for some help during the show which Siri fucked up, but then was able to redeem herself.

  • Black Friday Recap, Hatchimal, Elf on the Shelf, Swearing Black Friday Recap, Hatchimal, Elf on the Shelf, Swearing in Front of Kids
Chip and Cern are recapping their Black Friday deals and the death of single sales day that is Black Friday. Chip is looking for a Hatchimal and they want to hatch one on air. Chip asks Cern when it is ok to swear in front of kids because Chip’s daughter is getting older, so he is now wondering. All this and more on this episode of the Chip and Cern Show!   Chip and Cern are fresh off Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Both Chip and Cern consider Black Friday a holiday, but Joe and Dana had to work. Cern took some of the neighbor kids to Black Friday because they have never been. They were unimpressed by the lack of excitement. Cern took this as a learning opportunity to fill them in on “this isn’t how it used to be” which is totally true. If you missed the Black Friday tips and tricks episode give that a listen too!   Even on Small Business Saturday Target still had some of their door buster sales tvs, xBox, etc out and not sold out. This blew Chip and Cern’s mind because these deals are usually gone in less than 30 mins.   Chip was looking for a Hatchimal because they are selling for hundreds of dollars online. Cern is trying to explain what it is, so Chip and Cern go to YouTube to solve their problems. They watch video of this damn thing being hatched. The lady’s voice is horrible, but Chip and Cern are ever so entertained by this damn Furby type thing. The lady is stroking the egg and Chip is getting chubbed up. Here is the video to watch along.    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyGwDTNW4Ww&t   Cern actually walked right by a Hatchimal, but didn’t prances. Chip and Cern vow to get one to hatch live on air.   Chip saw an Elf on the Shelf, which triggered Cern. Cern breaks into a rant about this damn elf. He recommends Chip not to get one.    On Thanksgiving Chip and Cern both followed their advice and didn’t get too ripped up drunk.    Chip and Cern need their no followers to get X with lambs blood on their doors. All the lamb farmers would be pissed about the genocide of lambs because people didn’t want their first borns killed. The Bible was a funny book.   Chip’s daughter is starting to babble more and he reaches out to Cern about when to start to watch the language around kids.    Cern’s tip is he never bites his tongue, but make sure mom makes sure he gets in trouble everything is ok. Cern’s little kid is starting on snitching when Cern curses, but Cern has started making deals for no tattling on each other.    Chip pulls some articles showing that foul language is not harmful to kids, but they need to respect adults and not curse at them.    Chip recalls the first time he remembered cursing. It was at Sly Park school overnight trip in 6th grade. There were kids from all over the place and the older kids were cursing, so Chip started and hasn’t looked back since.    Coming down the pike or coming down the pipe is a cool collaboration with Elemental Supply Co. You can use either pike or pipe when using the idiom. Chip just thinks turn pikes are only in New Jersey, but there is supposedly one in Davis, CA.   Be sure to spread the word around and tell your friends about the Chip and Cern Show. • Black Friday
Chip and Cern are trying to help you out in life. First the help with navigating the holidays episode and now Black Friday.    Speaking of Black Friday the Chip and Cern Show are offering FREE SHIPPING for any orders in the Chip and Cern Show Store.   Chip and Cern both take the day off to battle crowds and score some slick deals. It is called Black Friday because that is the day when companies would traditionally start to bring their books in to the black or break even.   When Chip and Cern started Black Friday shopping they would show up fully drunk and freeze their asses off inline at Target to get a tv.    Black Fridays USED to start off at 4am on Friday, but over the years that time has been pushed earlier and earlier. So now they are starting to open their doors on Thanksgiving evening. People really took exception to this saying these companies were taking away from the family aspect of the holiday. People don’t remember that the employees of these companies have to get to the store mid day on Thanksgiving to prep the store.    REI has taken a stance against Black Friday and have closed it’s doors in a protest of sorts.    Chip and Cern use the Black Friday FM app and TheBlackFriday.com to scout all the early ads.    Cyber Monday is an online only shopping day that you can usually score some really good deals on electronics. Cern usually will use Cyber Monday to clean up the stuff he wasn’t able to get on Black Friday.    When Chip and Cern started Black Friday shopping a 40” plasma tv was $8000. Chip and Cern had to use Black Friday to get their big screen tv.   Cern once ran blocker for Chip to score a big screen tv. They were running through Target and Cern was sweeping on the outside blocking others to the TVs. After Chip threw the TV in the cart, they were on to the next item on the list.   Tip #1   Decide what you want MOST and what you want to lose out on least.   Tip #2    Map out your purchases at stores. Stores are staggering open times, so chose wisely. You can get a ton done at Target in the hours before Costco opens, so plan smart!    Cern is eyeballing an Xbox One for himself this Black Friday. He also does get some clothes at Khols sometimes because they have some good deals. He stays away form the POS fireplaces, and other cheaply made things.   Some of these crazy TV deals aren’t actually as good as they are cracked up to be. Cern doesn’t fuck around with any of these knockoff TVs.    Chip used to work at Circuit City in the TV department, but doesn’t have the latest and greatest TV out there. He    Cern loves the Black Friday FM app which has all the Black Friday ads. He makes a war room at it.    Target has a 4K 50” TV for $250 bucks. That is a hell of a deal.   When you are looking for a ManCave, office or garage TV go with the cheap deal. Don’t compromise quality for your core living room TV.   Some products like Apple, Playstation, Xbox have a floor price that they cannot be sold less than that amount.    We want to hear and see your Black Friday scores! Send them to @chipandcernshow on Twitter or email at [email protected]   Cern will start holding back on purchases around Halloween because he will try to score those purchases at deep discount. Cern is looking at a new pair of Beats for work that are $110 bucks off.   Black Friday is a great time to pick DVDs, Blu Ray and the most popular video game.    Chip says that hoover boards and drones are going to be the hot tech item of the year.   Chip says Cern needs to upgrade his gaming room TV, so it has been spoken!   If it plugs into a wall it is going to be on sale.   Chip is looking for a new TV for his workout area in the garage. He wants the biggest TV for the cheapest he can get it. There are also some good deals on mounts for these new TVs you are picking up.    One time Chip’s buddy Matt took him TV shopping and Chip upsold him to a 70”.    Chip and Cern rank Target as the best place to spend Black Friday in 2016.    Here are the links for the popular stores.    Target’s Black Friday Ad Best Buy Black Friday Ad Wal Mart Black Friday Ad Costco’s Black Friday Ad Home Depot’s Black Friday Ad     Cern tried to snag the Nintendo NES Classic at Target, but it sold out in minutes. He also ate a poinsettia plant when he was a toddler and had to get his stomach pumped.    A lot of companies are trying to spread out the Black Friday boom to longer than just won day, so keep the eyes peeled for multi day deals.    Cern might not bust down Home Depot’s doors, but he might stop in if he is in the area. He also wants to just shop until the sun comes up.    Chip sees at 70” 4K TV at Best Buy that peeks his interest.    Chip and Cern discuss how to split up to divide and conqure with your significant other during Black Friday.    Has anyone Uber’d their Black Friday score back home. Putting a big screen tv into the Uber would be a sight to see.    That is how Chip and Cern dominate Black Friday! If you have any suggestions for topics that you want Chip and Cern to chat up shoot us an email at [email protected], Tweet at @chipandcernshow  or send a message on Facebook.    Be sure to spread the word around and tell your friends about the Chip and Cern Show. • How to Navigate The Holidays
Chip and Cern are educating about how to navigate the holidays with family. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Xmas, Kwanza or whatever you like.   Both Chip and Cern are HOSTING Thanksgiving this year for the first time in their lives. Chip is having around 10 people over and Cern is having about the same over. Most of big deal of the holidays is the family members that stress out other family members.    Cern’s Tip to Navigate the Holidays is play it cool when stressed and find your zone drinking. Not too much to start, but just right.    Chip’s Tip to Navigate the Holidays is don’t hit the sauce too hard too early. Get to the good buzz and then back off a bit. Chip starts with a drink to take the edge off, but if you aren’t careful it could be disaster. Lay off the hard stuff early. Save the scotch for after dinner.    Chip has been lucky enough to avoid any fights where two family members are at each other’s throats the entire dinner. Cern sorta had this situation at his brother’s ex girlfriend’s family that played out like a movie. Chip would just not invite the people that have the problems. Don’t get your day ruined by some family member’s inability to get over themselves.    Both Chip and Cern say the Winter Holiday is much harder to navigate than Thanksgiving. At least in Thanksgiving there is the football game’s, tons of wine and food. Chip again recommends eliminating any stresses that would be any problems.   Traveling during the holidays is a bit different story because you have to be driving around and can’t get sloppy drunk. You have to also keep the peace at home, so you can’t piss off the wife and kids because she had to baby sit you.    Chip and Cern recommend picking and sticking to chatting with one of your favorite relatives that you don’t see that often, but really connect well with.    Cern says Thanksgiving is just pretty much a little longer dinner. Cern says get there no earlier than you need to.    Saddle up to that uncle that knows the shit out of mid 80’s Giants baseball. Dave Dravecky is still alive and still has one arm. The other one arm pitcher Jim Abbot is still alive as well also with one and a half arms. Cern then breaks down how Jim Abbot would rest the glove on his wrist.    If you have kids, put them to work Cern says. Dishes, scraps and refilling drinks is all within the skill set of many youth.    Cern hates stuffing, gravy and isn’t even a big fan of turkey. Chip digs deeper into Cern’s Thanksgiving plate. Turkey, salad, mash and a roll/biscuit. No cranberry, no casserole, but green beans is ok. Sounds like Cern is a basic ass bitch.    There is 3 NFL games lined up for Thanksgiving. Starting at 9:30am Pacific which is the Vikings v Lions. Then the Redskins Cowboys at 1:30 and followed up by the Steelers v Colts at 5:30pm.   Chip is already having anxiety about the holidays, just thinking about it. If you have any tips or tricks for Chip send them in.    One last pro tip from Cern. If any conversation around politics or anything comes about play it off like you aren’t listening or just get up and leave and refill your wine. With that glass of wine go park yourself on the sofa and watch the pigskin.   That is how Chip and Cern recommend dealing with Thanksgiving holiday. Be sure to tune into the upcoming Black Friday edition! If you have any suggestions for topics that you want Chip and Cern to chat up shoot us an email at [email protected], Tweet at @chipandcernshow  or send a message on Facebook.    Be sure to spread the word around and tell your friends about the Chip and Cern Show. • Westworld
Chip and Cern dive right right into another series. This time Chip and Cern talk about episode 1 of WestWorld on HBO.    Chip and Cern took a ton of movie classes in college and saw the first movie ever made, The Moon.    There will be NO SPOILERS past episode 1 in this recap. If you haven’t see episode 1 you can do that now or after the podcast.    Westworld was a 1973 movie written by Michael Crichton and now it is on HBO. Chip likes that there are boobies in the show. The HBO show is directed by Johnathan Nolan, who is Christopher Nolan’s brother. Chip and Cern are big fans of him, so that is a plus in their eyes.    Westworld is a theme park of sorts that you can pay a ton of money to go to and do whatever you want. The “people” that are there are robots essentially that run on scripts. As the visitor you can do whatever you want within WestWorld.    Cern wasn’t hooked right away on this show, but would see a few more episodes. He couldn’t really pinpoint the reason why, but he just didn’t get hooked.   Cern takes exception with Teddy Flood who is played by James Marsden, who always plays the white knight character and plays Cyclops in XMen.    Cern would be interested in taking a trip to WestWorld as would Chip.    They propose new storylines to add into the park, which would add new characters and options for the visitors to do.   Anthony Hopkins is nearly 80 years old.    There is about 5 or 6 episodes, so you can catch up on Westworld pretty quickly.    So out of 10 stars IMDB gives it 9.1.   Chip gives it 8.5 Cern gives 6.5   That was the Chip and Cern Show WestWorld Episode 1 recap. • Golf Show
Cern’s company had it’s annual golf tournament which is an annual tradition at Cern’s place of work to take the day off, drink beers at 8am and shoot a round of golf with your buddies and coworkers.    Joe, Statboy Dana, Chip and even Tony received an invite for this golf outing. Everyone could make it except Tony. It was a “best ball” style event where everyone tees off then you play off the best ball. It is a pretty fun way to play because you usually have a decent shot out of the 4 that are taken each time. There was a rule that you had to take at least two of each person’s drives for the round.   Cern and Chip used to golf a little bit in college when Chip lived in the same town as Cern. Cern recalls that Chip just said “let’s golf” and it was done. Chip and Cern both went to Sports Authority (RIP) and both got the $150 for the complete bag of clubs. Chip’s wife Kristen was a stellar golfer in high school and came along to give them some pointers. She quickly gave up because she realized we were a lost cause.   Every Saturday Chip and Cern would pay $12 for 9 holes with a cart at a local course. They would get a bag of Redman chew, some drinks and go golfing. Chip once drilled a shank and it hit and old man at this course.    They would get decent because they were constantly playing for a few months, but then they fell out of it. Cern last played golf the year before and Chip probably played 7 years ago.    The event was well put on and it was a great day. In the morning there was some burritos, fruit and coffee to enjoy. Also there was some free sunglasses and golf balls by their big sponsors. All the details were there to the T.    Cern lost 12 balls. Chip lost about 5 or 6. Everyone had a great time. Chip will only have fun at an event if he is doing well at it, so he was trying to bust out of this 7 year lack of golf he was playing.    Chip was the only guy who didn’t have his own clubs, like a slapdick.    Chip goes to tee up at the driving range and then took a big ol swing and took a huge WIFFFFFF. The second one was a worm burner that Chip topped and it went around 25 yards.   Cern didn’t get any practice in before and blew the dust off his clubs before. There is so many old bags of sunflower seeds, old bags of Redman chew and old beer cans in there.   Chip didn’t know what a scramble tournament was and it was a teaching moment for him.   Joe was by far the best golfer, so everyone was riding off Joe’s back. Despite Cern living ON A GOLF COURSE he doesn’t play at all. After 2pm it is $20 to play until it is dark which is a hellova deal.    Golf really isn’t one of those sports that is fun to play by yourself. It is fun to fuck around with your friends and talk trash.    Joe had a range finder, so he was spotting the distance for every hole which was really helpful. Dana came out of the gate with some solid game play. They were able to use his his drives within the first few holes.    Drinking whilst playing golf. What is the limit where it is too much booze? Cern said he is good for about 3 tall cans worth which is about right. Just enough to take the stress off, but not enough to be sloppy and drunk.    Both Chip and Cern would collapse when the pressure was on and they really needed his drive.     Chip was taking a few days off drinking for a few weeks and this golf tourney was right in the thick of it. About 7:30am the first beer was cracked, so it got started early.    The weather was great and everyone had their Chip and Cern Show hat on and it was a fun time. Cern did forget to bring his hat, not because of embarrassment, but having separation of personal life and work life. Work is something that you go to, get a check and go home at 5. Chip and Cern validate to themselves that they do like the podcast and wear the hats.   Chip got home at 2:30p and took a nap when he got home. Being in the sun, some beer and several hours of exercise really took a toll on Chip and he needed to recharge his batteries.    Chip wants to now get into golf and get some clubs. He knows it is will be a costly endeavor and also knows he doesn’t have a ton of time to go hit for several hours on the weekend.    Chip and Cern were playing Pokemon Go at one of these holes where there was a gym. It was quite the battle, but Chip and Cern came out on top.   Chip and Cern are in for next year’s tourny, so be sure to tune into that one.    Do you have some golf clubs you want to sell Chip? • Guns N' Roses Concert
Cern’s favorite band is Guns N’ Roses and they reunited, much like Chip and Cern, to do a concert in San Francisco. Chip took Cern to this once in a lifetime event which Chip later found out was Cern’s first ever concert.    Chip and Cern decide to derail the show from the get go and move on to a retelling of the Guns N’ Roses concert.    Cern was supposed to get off early and meet Chip early in San Francisco, grab some beers and do this grand plan to get beers, dinner and enjoy themselves.    Chip was walking along waiting for Cern and he saw Cern’s huge white van drive by and ran into the street and jumped into the car which really startled Cern. The found a FREE parking spot in San Francisco which is a feat in of itself.    The two nerds brought extra battery packs so they can hunt Pokemon whilst walking around and having beers before the show.    First stop was at Fort Point Brewery and enjoyed a pint there and then were looking for some grub to get. They then went to 21st Amendment another great local brewery in San Francisco. They have a bad ass beer garden in the alley just for drinking only which is the best place to be before a Giants game. Chip and Cern have 3-4 beers here which they couldn’t really recall.   Chip sorta humble brags about being to a lot of concerts. Green Day is Chip’s “hardest rock” concert he has been to. Everyone that was going to the concert had the full on 90’s hair band/ GnR look with leather jackets, ripped jeans and flannels around the waist. It was like you took a time machine back to ’91.   It may have been the beer’s talking, but Cern revolved something to Chip. He had never been to a concert. GnR was Cern’s true love and was saving his cherry for them. First concert experience is your favorite band, Chip was very excited for Cern’s first concert.   Axel and Slash, in separate cars, had a police escort to the stadium, so that alerted that the show was about to start. They were supposed to be on at 8pm and this was around 7:30p.    Chip and Cern got some road sodas from an entrepreneur type person with an ice chest. Chip bought two Tecate cans for $10 which in his mind was a good deal. 1 beer inside AT&T Park is $11, so this was a good deal in Chip’s mind. Chip doesn’t remember, but Cern claims they drank the beers in front of the cops.   They tired to get sandwiches, but they closed early, so the food was delayed even more.    Chip and Cern make it into the show and had a hell of a time.   More beers, Chip and Cern singing along to every song and Cern bugging people around him. Cern kept tapping the guy in front telling him how much Slash was crushing it. Chip had to wrangle Cern in a bit.      Here is Chip and Cern logic. “We need some food to counter act all this beer. We need some beer to wash this food down with."   They played every song you wanted to hear, but didn’t do an encore, which is rare.    Cern parked his car a ways away, but luckily Chip brought his scooter. Chip and Cern were ripping through lanes, high fiving people and having a blast. Cern had a great time on the scooter and loved it from the first minute.    The night was a great time, the next morning however was not a great time. Chip should have worked from home, but did not. Cern rolled into work with a five o’clock shadow. Chip had a double burrito day with a breakfast burrito then some Chipotle for lunch.    Cern didn’t catch the concert bug, but he would go again if it was someone he liked.    Chip and his wife are going to see Sturgill Simpson two nights in a row in November. Chip tries to see these classic rock legends before they all start kicking the bucket.    What is some of your favorite concerts have you been to?
