Laurana, without her consent, is made the Commander of the Knights of Solamnia. Despite her misgivings she accepts the assignment. As part of accepting her new responsibilities, and despite what her heart may want, she also lets go of her love for Tanis. She does not have the time and energy to pursue it and she believes he is lost to the Darkness.

Tas and Flint inspect the fortifications, worry about Laurana, and reveal their thoughts about Kitiara now that they know she is a Dragon Highlord.

The good dragons finally arrive! Gilthanas & Silvara come with them. We learn from them why the metallic dragons have not made themselves before now: the twisted machinations of Takhisis! But through the sacrifice of Gilthanas and Silvara they've finally come out of hiding to help. Gilthanas also knows about Tanis' indiscretions now and shares it with Laurana. She is uninterested.

We, and Raistlin, meet Astinus of Palanthas, the immortal chronicler of the world of Krynn and keeper of Palanthas's library. Raistlin's escape to Palanthas worked though it has left him very weak and close to death. He hopes to find a means to save his life within the library. Raistlin struggles to find what he seeks, near death he is visited by Astinus. Their conversation inadvertently reveals to the young wizard that he is not alone, and leaves Astinus troubled. Laurana, Tas, and Flint are also in Palanthas, Tas even saw Raistlin arrive but does not realize it. They, and we, learn the dark history of the city's Tower of High Sorcery.

Tanis and Company aboard the Perechon are pursued by dragons. It turns out Kitiara isn't happy about how Tanis left. Tanis is still trying to convince the rest of the Companions that he didn't betray them. They seem skeptical now and that feeling will only grow. The ship, in vain, attempts to escape but only ends up being drawn into the Maelstrom at the heart of the Blood Sea. Tanis hopes, in vain, that Kit will not recognize Berem. Raistlin does recognize Kit. Tanis comes clean. It is not pretty. Despite the madness of the storm Kitiara continues to pursue them, Tanis asks for forgiveness. Many secrets are revealed. Raistlin abandons the rest of the party. Tanis and the remaining Companions are seemingly lost in the great whirlpool at the heart of the Blood Sea.

Welcome to Dragons of Spring Dawning! We finally learn something about Berem. It isn't pretty. Neither is the 'break-up' between Tanis and Kit! Which Tanis initiates in the middle of the night while Kit is away. His reunion with the rest of the Companions is full of tension. The tension is further heightened when Tanis demands they all leave as soon as possible the next morning. After arguing with the Captain of the Maquesta, Tanis and Company sail out of Flotsam. Kit finds Tanis' break-up note as soon as she returns and handles that about how you'd expect her to. Tanis' and Kit's relationship issues are about to be everyone else's problem.

Jeff Grubb is an award-winning author, game designer, and world-builder. His extensive credits include AD&D's Monster Manual II, Marvel Super Heroes game system, Unearthed Arcana, Manual of the Planes (1st ed.), Spelljammer, Al-Qadim, Tempest Feud, Urban Arcana, and has contributed and assisted on many more. He is the author of numerous short stories for the Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and Thieves World settings. He is the author of Azure Bonds, The Wyvern's Spur, and the Song of the Saurials. He was also written novels set in the Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Warcraft, Starcraft, and Magic: the Gathering worlds.

We were immensely grateful that he took the time out of his busy schedule to sit down and talk to us a bit about the early days of TSR, the creation of Dragonlance, his contributions to Dungeons & Dragons and more.

Here we are at the end of Dragons of Winter Night and Season 2 of the podcast. In these chapters the Knights of Solamnia hold off the dragon armies for a day, Sturm sacrifices his life to save the lives of those he loves. Laurana and Tas use the dragon orb and dragonlances to defeat the dragon armies. Laurana and Kitiara meet. It does not go well. Alhana also learns of the death of Sturm. Despite the darkness, hope lives.

With the second book complete, we will be airing our interview with Jeff Grubb in July, taking a short break in August, and returning in September with Season 3, Dragons of Spring Dawning!

What secret lies at its long neglected heart? Rest assured Tas will find out! Derek makes a bold claim and an even bolder action. Sturm abandons the Measure. The Knights, minus Sturm and his men, venture forth to confront the dragonarmies, with Derek confident of his victory and glory. Sturm urges Laurana to take others and flee. The knights are doomed if they do not get support from Palanthas or some other place. Laurana refuses, her place is with her friends here. Tas reveals what he found in the tower, Laurana thinks it might just save them all. This knowledge comes too late to save Derek and the knights who took to the field.

Tanis and Kitiara get close, real close, and catch up. Kitiara spills the beans on Takhisis' goals and urges Tanis to join her in fulfilling them. Tanis disappoints everyone with his decision. Meanwhile, Sturm's elevation to full knighthood drives Derek Crownguard insane and completely shatters whatever semblance of unity the Knights of Solamnia at the High Clerist's Tower had. This makes an already bad situation worse as the Knights aren't really wanted by anyone in Palanthas. Laurana has brought the dragonlances to the Knights but most of the soldiers and knights don't think they'll be of any use, as they're badly outnumbered and low on food. The Dragon army surrounding the tower seems content to starve the knights out…

Podcast Summary - After the events of the Whitestone Council, Laurana and friends try to decide what their next steps are. We learn her testimony has cleared Sturm and he will become instituted as a full knight. Laurana will travel to Palanthas to relay this information directly to him and advanced Lord Gunther's plans. Fizban provides some final guidance to Tas. Elistan meets his maker? On the other side of the world Tanis and Caramon steal some enemy uniforms in order to secure passage for them and the rest of the Companions out of Flotsam. Then, while trying to purchase supplies for their sea voyage Tanis is nearly killed by a grief-crazed elf. Only to be rescued by a Dragonlord, who just so happens to be a dear old friend?!

Shivam provides all the info one could ever want on gnomes and their place, not only in Krynn and D&D, but in the fantasy genre. Fizban and Tasslehoff experience the wonders of Mt. Nevermind, with special attention being given to innermountain transportation. The reader is introduced to Gnosh, the gnome in charge of investigating the dragon orb, and a bit about Gnomish culture. Fizban uses the orb and delivers ominous news. The Council of Whitestone, where the good people of Krynn have gathered to organize their defense against the threat of Takhisis, immediately breaks down into bickering. Tas takes things into his own hands, and right as all hope seems lost some old friends bring good news and a titular object!
