Most people picture hell as a place where demons torture the lost, but the Bible never describes it that way. So when we ask whether Jesus suffered in hell, the real question is whether he bore the wrath of God, not whether Satan got to him. If Jesus truly took our place, and died carrying the punishment that belongs to us, what did that cost him in the moments between his death and his resurrection? Let's explore the idea that Jesus bore the torment of the realm of the dead, and what it means for every believer.

Delay does not mean failure, but it can crush your soul if you let it. Hope deferred makes the heart sick, and a sick heart loses joy and slides toward depression. Every vision takes years to clarify and includes pivots along the way. Abraham waited decades, through a move, a family separation, and a wife taken twice, before he held the child of promise. Paul learned to be content with much and with little. Contentment protects the joy that gives entrepreneurs their strength. Settle in for the long term, trust God through setbacks, and let him keep increasing you.

Popular culture depicts Satan and demons as ruling hell and tormenting the unrighteous dead, but Scripture paints a different picture. Hell is a place of imprisonment and punishment for the unrighteous dead and fallen angels. Satan currently operates in the earthly realm, but at the end of the age, he will be judged and thrown into the Lake of Fire for eternal punishment. Ultimately, hell, like every other place in God's creation, is under God's authority, not Satan's.

The Bible uses different words that are translated as "hell" in English, but they do not all refer to the same place. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word Sheol refers to the realm of the dead, while the New Testament uses the Greek word Hades to describe the same realm. However, Gehenna, another Greek word translated as "hell," refers to God's final judgment and is associated with the Lake of Fire. These places are distinct because Revelation 20:14 reveals that Hades itself will eventually be thrown into the Lake of Fire. Therefore, when Acts 2:27 says Jesus was not abandoned to hell, it refers to Hades, the realm of the dead, not the Lake of Fire. Understanding these distinctions is essential when studying what happened to Jesus between His death and resurrection.

In Office Hours this week Pastor Amos opened with prayer and announced that the next live Bible study would cover the heavenly reward system. Theresa shared a praise report about her first successful caregiver event and recommended a book on hearing God's voice. Ark shared that he was appointed to a university advisor board and discussed using AI to perform songs he had written. Micah shared a praise report about a large $2.3 million commercial loan transaction and discussed the importance of praying in the Spirit. Deborah shared a praise report about not getting a job, viewing it as a spiritual lesson, and mentioned her sister's new coffee truck contract. The group discussed spiritual warfare after victories and the importance of rest and recovery. Pastor Amos explained updates to the CFE website regarding membership categories and discussed the role of small groups in discipleship. The conversation ended with a prayer and an invitation for financial partnership with CFE.

What happens to us when we die? Do we immediately go to heaven or hell, or is there another place where we await our final destination? Does everyone go to the same place, or are there different destinations depending on our relationship with God? Has where people go after death changed since Jesus' death and resurrection? And what happens at the final judgment? Understanding what the Bible teaches about life after death will help us answer these questions and better understand what awaits us beyond this life.

What got you to your current level of success will not take you to the next one. For example, a seed stays a single seed until it is buried, and only its death produces a harvest. Success works the same way. The role you love, the way you have always done things, or the belief that everything depends on you becomes the ceiling. Evaluate what in your life needs to die so you can go to the next level of success that God has for you.

There is a lot of pressure in this world to conform to the ways of the world, but when we walk in the light of God and live holy the way Jesus teaches us, we are being different. We show an example of how a human submitted to God is supposed to live, work and act. Be different. Don't conform to the ways of the world. When you are different, you are bringing glory to God.

Scripture teaches us that when people do not accept divine guidance, they fail. To illustrate this, Jesus gives an example with two builders. The one who follows the vision of God succeeds. The one who follows their own vision fails. Every vision meets trouble, and only God's vision stands.

Counsel from people without the Holy Spirit carries darkness, even when those people are successful. Why? Jesus teaches that the unbeliever is full of darkness, and the curse that came through Adam shows that wealth gained under it comes with sorrow. Success is not the test for whose advice to follow. The state of a person's heart is. Take information from anyone, but filter all counsel through the Holy Spirit.
