As believers, we downplay our feelings and treat them like a bad guide. We do this because many of us have been taught not to trust our feelings. However, God created our feelings, just like He created our body and spirit, so why would we throw away something He created? Instead of throwing our feelings away, let's learn to use them. A born again believer who studies and meditates the Word consistently can trust their feelings as a guide to discern their calling.

God gave Jesus a unique and powerful calling during His time on earth. While His calling sets the foundation for all of ours, your calling will likely differ from His. You can learn from studying everything Jesus did, but you may not find your exact calling in His actions on earth. Therefore, don't limit your calling simply because you didn't see Jesus do it.

In John 7, Jesus demonstrates the importance of discerning the right time, season, and place for your calling. Although His brothers pressured Him to go publicly to Jerusalem and prove Himself, Jesus refused to be influenced by people who did not believe in His assignment, recognizing that His time had not yet fully come. He did not recklessly put Himself or His mission in danger just to prove a point. In the same way, just because God has placed something in your heart does not mean you should immediately pursue it publicly or at full force. Some assignments require you to remain in the background, move quietly, or pivot as the Holy Spirit leads until the right time comes. Fulfilling your calling requires constantly listening to the Holy Spirit and discerning when to move, when to wait, when to be visible, and when to remain hidden.

Your calling unfolds through many decisions, both small and large, making it essential to clearly hear and correctly interpret the voice of God. While God may initiate extraordinary forms of communication through audible voices, visions, dreams, angels, or other people, believers can consistently recognize His direction through their born-again spirit as their minds are renewed by His Word. Learning to hear God requires distinguishing His simple, God-honoring voice from our own complex, self-focused thoughts, trusting His provision rather than interpreting His direction through scarcity, and patiently allowing Him to confirm what He is saying. It also requires proper theology and a biblical worldview, because wrong beliefs and worldly thinking can cause us to misinterpret even what we have clearly heard. As we grow in the Word, learn to recognize God's peace, trust His unlimited provision, and resist rushing to conclusions, we become better equipped to hear, understand, and follow His direction for every decision that shapes our calling.
