This week on the show, we begin a new series: The Summer of '87!
1987 was a banner year for film, and the summer of that year was one of the best in history for films of the psychotronic variety.
We're kicking it off with a classic that celebrates its 30th birthday this week, the Arnold vs. alien extravaganza PREDATOR!
SYNOPSIS: Dutch and his group of commandos are hired by the CIA to rescue downed airmen from guerillas in a Central American jungle. The mission goes well but as they return they find that something is hunting them. Nearly invisible, it blends in with the forest, taking trophies from the bodies of its victims as it goes along. Occasionally seeing through its eyes, the audience sees it is an intelligent alien hunter, hunting them for sport, killing them off one at a time.
Along with special guest Todd Davis, we dive deep into the making of the film, its origins and its legacy and we ask the question: Does PREDATOR deserve a spot in the Psychotronic Hall of Fame?
We’d love to hear from you! Contact us at any of the social media accounts listed below or give us a call at (864) 372-9931 and leave us a voicemail of 3 minutes or less and we’ll play it on the next show!

This week, we're going back 30 years to 1987 to take a look at the underseen, under-discussed horror-noir film ANGEL HEART
SYNOPSIS: Down-and-out private detective Harry Angel is hired by a mysterious man named Louis Cyphre to find a missing person. His mission leads him down a bloody path that culminate into a supernatural journey into Angel's own soul.
ANGEL HEART has a small but faithful cult following, but is that enough to secure its spot in the Psychotronic Hall of Fame?

Back at the beginning of the year, the Psychotronic Film Society conducted a poll with its listeners to choose the best psychotornic film of 2016. We promised that whatever film won that coved People's Choice Award would one day be discussed on the show as a potential inductee into the Psychotronic Hall of Fame.
This week, we make due on that promise! This week, we are discussing the 2016 Psychotronic People's Choice Award winner, GREEN ROOM!
SYNOPSIS: A young punk rock band find themselves trapped in a secluded venue after stumbling upon a horrific act of violence.
That's right! It's Nazis vs Punks, it's Picard vs Chekov this week on this show! We know that you guys voted it as the best psychotronic film of 2016 (though by a small margin) but does that make it worthy of the Psychotronic Hall of Fame?

In this new minisode (and yeah, we realize we're using the word "mini" a bit loosely in this case; we had more to say about the movie than we'd anticipated!), we're taking a look at another new release: Ridley Scott's latest entry into his Xenomorph series, ALIEN: COVENANT.
If you've listened to our PROMETHEUS episode (if not, scroll all the way back to Episode 10), then you know that this is a touchy subject for us. So what did we think of Scott's follow-up to that film?
You'll have to listen to find out!
NOTE: This review starts out spoiler free before we get into more of the nitty gritty in the back half of the review. We give a warning ahead of time. Spoilers start at 19:30.

This week, we're taking a look at one of the most monumental, and most impactful psychotronic film in our show's history! This week, we're talking about William Friedkin's THE EXORCIST (1973)!
SYNOPSIS: 12-year-old Regan MacNeil begins to adapt an explicit new personality as strange events befall the local area of Georgetown. Her mother becomes torn between science and superstition in a desperate bid to save her daughter, and ultimately turns to her last hope: Father Damien Karras, a troubled priest who is struggling with his own faith.
We're joined this week by special guest Kat Davis, who nominated this week's film.

SYNOPSIS: In 2257, a taxi driver is unintentionally given the task of saving a young girl who is part of the key that will ensure the survival of humanity.
Has THE FIFTH ELEMENT held up over the past two decades? Is it deserving of a spot in the Psychotronic Hall of Fame?

This week, it's our most controversial pick yet, Lars Von Trier's polarizing 2009 film ANTICHRIST!
SYNOPSIS: A grieving couple retreats to their cabin ‘Eden’ in the woods, hoping to repair their broken hearts and troubled marriage. But nature takes its course and things go from bad to worse.
Our hosts dig deep into the films themes (as they are wont to do) and try to figure out, well, just what the hell is going on here as they attempt to decide if this is a film that's worthy of the Psychotronic Hall of Fame.

This week, we're taking it all the way back to 1977 with a look at David Lynch's debut feature ERASERHEAD. One of the seminal midnight movies to come out of the era, Lynch's ERASERHEAD introduced the world to the unique mind of one of our all-time great Psychotronic directors.
SYNOPSIS: Henry Spencer tries to survive his industrial environment, his angry girlfriend, and the unbearable screams of his newly born mutant child. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Help us celebrate the film's 40th anniversary and help us decide if the film is worthy of the Psychotronic Hall of Fame.

Well, due to a bit of a technical snafu, it looks like Kaiju Month ended a week early! Unfortunately, our end of an incredible conversation about ALL MONSTERS ATTACK with scheduled guest Brian Solomon didn't sound good enough to release into the wild and for that, we apologize to both you guys and to Brian. We'll be sure to work out the technical kinks of remote recording and invite him back to the show soon!
In the meantime, enjoy this throwback episode! Before The Psychotronic Film Society was a thing, we had a short-lived podcast called A Slice of Fried Gold. While it's a little more technically primitive and we weren't quite as good at the podcasting game at the time, we still wanted to share this conversation with you. Because you guys don't deserve a week without our lovely voices. And really, what movie podcast would be complete without an episode about JAWS?
Synopsis: An insatiable great white shark terrorizes the townspeople of Amity Island, The police chief, an oceanographer and a grizzled shark hunter seek to destroy the bloodthirsty beast.

Kaiju Month continues this week with a look at Guillermo del Toro's kanji vs. mech smash-em-up, PACIFIC RIM!
SYNOPSIS: When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed-up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
This week, Todd Davis returns to the show to help us decide if PACIFIC RIM deserves a spot among the pantheon of great cult films!
