Halloween is near so it is time to talk horror movies! Take scary trip with the Cinemondo gang to Indonesia for a look at two great, moody, atmospheric, creepy, haunting films by Joko Anwar. SATAN’S SLAVES is a haunted house ghost story framed by folklore and strange rumors of evil cults, and IMPETIGORE takes us to an Indonesian village where a couple of friends find themselves becoming a part of a larger story involving curses and spells and unspeakable rituals. Both films are beautifully shot in locations us Westerners aren’t very familiar with. Excellent cast and genuinely chilling pacing and what the movie experts call and “escalation of menace” as we find out more and more about why a remote village seems to have a vendetta against an innocent toll booth worker. Definitely worth seeing both of these fantastic films.

The Interplanetary Federation of Cinemondo discusses the second Star Trek pilot. The third episode to air, but the second one to be shot… and the first time William Shatner had ever played Captain Kirk on screen! It’s a great episode that takes us beyond the barrier of the galaxy where a strange force turns Gary Lockwood and Sally Kellerman into godlike beings. The actors and crew are still finding their place in the universe and still working out the details of props and wardrobe, but it still stands up as one of the Starship Enterprise’s most memorable adventures. Full of great characters and action, and we dig deep into the details
Where No Man Has Gone Before was written by Samuel A. Peeples and directed by James Goldstone.

The Cinemondo gang talks about, RELIC, a film that’s defined as “horror” but goes into other unexpected realms. RELIC is directed by first-time feature director Natalie Erika James and stars Emily Mortimer, Bella Heathcote and Robyn Nevin. It is one of those films that you can’t really put any single label on; it appears to be one thing, but the more you think about it, the more you realize what the film is really about. It’s actually a very touching film with a lot of heart and a very clear understanding of some of the less pleasant facts of life. It could certainly be watched as a full-on horror movie, as it has chilling moments and some genuine scares, but underneath its skin RELIC is so much more.

The Cinemondo gang gets into the details of an episode of Star Trek that’s actually scary. A super-powered teenager. What could be more terrifying? This one has a lot of great moments, from Uhura singing in the break room with Spock accompanying her on the Vulcan Lyre to an amazing performance by Robert Walker.

The Cinemondo gang welcomes special guest April Wright to the podcast. She directed a spectacular new documentary from Shout! called STUNTWOMEN: THE UNTOLD HOLLYWOOD STORY. April gets into the details behind the production of her film and fills us in on some of the intrepid high profile stuntwomen she interviews, their struggles working their way up in one of the toughest areas of film and television production… STUNTS!! The film also includes interviews with Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Verhoven and Paul Fieg. The excitement and thrills and the sometimes deadly danger. April’s documentary introduces us to these often unsung superheroes of the films and shows we love so much… the women who leap out of burning buildings, fall down stairs, crash through windows, hurtle backwards into brick walls after being blasted by super villains and drive like demons… they make it look easy, but it takes training and practice and the strength to excel in an part of the industry that people often think of as a man’s job. Join us for a fun chat with director April Wright and a fascinating, behind-the-scenes look at how it all gets done.

The Cinemondo gang talks about the first episode of Star Trek that actually aired. This one has the classic Salt Vampire and some real suspense… all the things that make a great Star Trek episode, despite the fact that the doomed crew members are not yet wearing their traditional red shirts.

WHAT'S THAT FILM?! Ever had a vague memory of a film from your past that you just can't place?
We investigate another mysterious cold case from our files. Burk remembers a TV movie from his childhood where some hunters camping on the bank of a river or a lake are suddenly aware of another group of hunters on the other side, and they realize to their horror that the men across the water are their identical duplicates. What’s going on? What’s the name of this movie? Can we figure it out? Maybe you can!
If you have a scene from a film that you just can't figure out send it to us and we will investigate the case on our podcast. Write us at: [email protected]

Exactly fifty four years ago a series premiered on NBC and never really went away...
Welcome to the debut episode of our special new podcast where we rewatch the original STAR TREK from the beginning! Kathy, Mark and Burk have a detailed discussion about the pilot episode that premiered Star Date September 8,1966: THE CAGE. A different doctor… a different captain… and a much louder Spock. Interesting to imagine what Star Trek would have been without William Shatner.
Written by Gene Roddenberry and directed by Robert Butler.
Space: The final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starhip Enterprise. Its five year mission, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no man has gone before.

SEA FEVER, directed by Neasa Hardiman, follows the harrowing adventures of a young female scientist studying behavioral patterns in sea creatures who find herself on a fishing boat being harassed by a bizarre, parasitic creature that is liquifying the hull, and physically attacking the crew in genuinely icky ways. It can certainly be seen as an exploration of pandemic fears and issues about quarantine, but mainly it’s a fun, strange, shocking and suspenseful monster movie, which as you know, we love around here at Cinemondo Headquarters

We dig into SPUTNIK, a Russian sci-fi horror hybrid directed by Egor Abramenko. Cosmonaut Konstantin - the lone survivor of Russian space mission, returns to earth from orbit and brings along an alien parasite… and as we all know, alien parasites are going to cause trouble. It’s just how they are. It’s what they do. We love seeing films from countries other than the USA, and this is an interesting ride for sure, but does it live up to its potential? Great production design and some terrific performances and icky special effects carry us through this one, but join us for the discussion to find out if it’s a total success.
