Here is the very first one I've chosen to feature on this series, mostly because it's a really common question I've heard from folks who are questioning whether some form of nonmonogamy might be right for them. Listener Preston* asked:

My wife and I are in an interesting part in our relationship that we both consider monogamous. After being intimate with just each other for 13 years, we have started talking more openly about our desires. We fell into a "normal" rhythm when it came to our sex life. Opening up about other desires, seemed dangerous, and specifically on my end, felt like they coild shatter the relationship. However, after having honest conversations, I found that she had surprisingly been open to just about all ideas. One we talked about was inviting another person in to bed for us to enjoy mutually.

What is your take on the healthiness of this and the sustainability of it for a relationship such as ours?

How would you go about setting healthy ground rules that makes us all feel comfortable including the potential third person?

How do you open conversations with people about this?
