When Oakey “Al” Kite advertised his basement apartment for rent in Aurora, Colorado in 2004, he expected to meet a potential tenant — not a killer.

The man who arrived, using the name Robert Cooper, left behind a fake identity, a brutal crime scene and one of Colorado’s most disturbing unsolved murders.

More than two decades later, investigators still have DNA evidence from the crime scene, but the identity of the killer remains unknown.

In this episode, we examine the chilling details of the Oakey Kite cold case, the mysterious man who posed as a renter, and why investigators believe the attack may have been carefully planned.

When the 61-year-old grandmother didn’t show up for work on a July morning in 2011, her loved ones knew something wasn’t right. What they uncovered inside her Wantirna South home would shock even seasoned detectives — a violent struggle in the bedroom, blood-stained bedding, and Brenda’s body hidden beneath a pool cover in her own backyard.

Police believe Brenda knew her killer. There were no signs of forced entry. And investigators suspect the scene was carefully staged to wash away crucial forensic evidence.

In April 2015, 46-year-old Vincent Viafore and his fiancée, Angelika Graswald, launched their kayaks into the Hudson River near Bannerman Island in New York. Hours later, Angelika called 911, saying Vincent had fallen into the freezing water and disappeared.

At first, it looked like a tragic accident.

But when investigators began digging deeper, troubling details surfaced — a missing drain plug, an absent life jacket, alleged statements about wanting him gone, and an 11-hour interrogation that would change everything.
