During the previous episode we talked about the first 3 levels of leadership, the position level, the permission level and the production level. We’ll explore today the level 4 and 5 , the people development level and Pinnacle level.

Level 4: People Development Level

This level is where leaders creates other leaders. People development leaders are not only doing good in production level, but also, they develop others to be successful in that.

Developing good relationships with others is essential for them, to trust you for their development. Level 4 Leaders, use their position, good relationships and high productivity to invest in the organization biggest asset: people.

By developing other leaders and multiplying themselves, level 4 leaders will create a better teamwork spirit, and highly increase the performance.

Level 5: Pinnacle Level

The pinnacle level is not earned by the leader, but given to him by those he leads

Your team and those who follow you are highly trusting you and believing in all what you do for them and for the organization.

“ Level 5 Leaders channel their ego needs away from themselves and into the larger goal of building a great company.

It’s not that the Level 5 leaders have no ego or self-interest.

Indeed, they are incredibly ambitious, but their ambition is first and foremost for the institution, not themselves.”

Level 5 Leaders’ goals is to build and enduring great organization, that will keep doing great when they are not there. Whenever things go well , pinnacle leaders will look for a team member or specific event to give credit to, but not themselves

When things go wrong , pinnacle leaders will take all responsibility and never blame others or bad luck. Pinnacle leaders set standards for long term growth and success

As a Coach:

Always give the credit of achieving goal to the client or the coached team in the organization.

When communicating with the client, if he didn’t get your question or missed it, remember that the only responsible for the meaning of the communication is the sender.

Never blame , take the responsibly to reformulate your request. Keep learning and developing your knowledge about the different leadership levels to increase your understanding of the behavior challenges with your client organization.

The more we know the leadership levels, the more we connect with our clients, whether they are Executives, Managers or teams, the more our partnership will bring success .

When having the appropriate, knowledge, skills and needed certifications (If any) helping organizations develop the coaching skills of their executives, will lead to a better result and long-term growth.

These were the 5 levels of leadership, learning them is essential to know how to deal with your client in a leadership way, and also help a lot when coaching leaders and managers within organizations.

We are sometimes confused of some behavior or unexplained actions of some leaders and asking ourselves how come a leader behave this way, why the reality is that There’s different levels of leadership, in fact 5 levels of leadership and that’s what we’re gonna explore during today’s and tomorrow’s episodes.

Level 1: Position level

Position level is the lowest level in Leadership.

This leadership level is granted by position, or job title .

Nothing is bad with the fact of having a leadership position, using the position to get followers is wrong .

This level gives the leader authority over other people.

The position level gives the leader the right to give instructions to others and direct their activities.

People within a leadership position management will do only what is needed from them, and will rarely respond to their leader when an extra time or effort is needed.

Positional leaders have no influence , which making their work with independent people, ( like volunteers, young people, highly qualified) difficult.

Level 2 : Permission Level

This level is based on relationships.

As a leader, developing good and positive relationships with those you lead will highly increase your level of influence.

People will follow the Level 2 leader, because they want to.

Permission leaders like their team members and treat them as valuable individuals.

The priority for permission level leaders is not securing their position, but, knowing more their people and connect with them.

Level 3: Production Level

This leadership level is for result champion members.

The main reason behind being selected for this position, is your achievement record.

Production level leaders are those who meet goals , achieve higher results and get things done.

Getting into the position level is not enough, getting good results and leading the organization to growth is what production level leaders do.

Level 3 leaders are gaining credibility within the organization leading to a bigger influence. When leaders get into the production level, the overall work environment will get more positive , people morale improves, work gets done, better profits are achieved,…

Level 3 leaders will enjoy leading and influencing people as numbers are supporting them.

Production leaders find a way for the team to win, no matter what the crisis or the challenges. No alternative for winning for them.

Understand the difference between Managing, Micro Managing and not Managing

Look at the team, and and yourself within it from outside the frame.

Know your people to the maximum, the more you know them, the better you deal with them and the higher is the performance.

Be very clear when assigning responsibilities within the team you manage.

Your team members are different, don’t treat them the same way, treat them appropriately.

Change your attitude, between being the week and being the strong in the room.

Hold yourself accountable, and appreciate those holding you accountable.

Have a clear communication of your plans, and implement a clear metric to follow up your progress

Be a model when you’re you’re not able to handle your responsibilities and Escalate, to encourage your people to do the same.

Today we’ll talk about the different markets, submarkets and niches, and how important it is to select or create a niche market, for coaches.

There are basically 3 main markets, that most of the business fall in one of them:

In this stage it’s important to identify the core market you want and feel comfortable to serve, and work in it. Each of the 3 core markets contains a big list of submarkets.

After identifying the main core market, you’re interested to serve, the next step is to identify the what submarket you want to focus on.

Remember, the market and submarket you’re going to choose will be where you will spend most of you coming years, in terms of people you will meet, clients to serve, connections to make, referrals, and all

So being the one who choose you market and submarket is very essential to your success.

A niche is a segment of a submarket, defined by a very specific need or preference. So the sequence will be this way:

Core Market ==> Sub-market ==>Your niche

Here’s below some examples:

Core Market ==>Sub-market ==> Your niche

Relationships ==> Marriage ==> how to find the best partner

Relationships ==> Divorce ==> how to recover after divorce

Relationships ==> Parenting ==> Dealing with new born

Health ==> Nutrition ==> After 60 diet

Health ==> weight loss ==> Weight loss for working mom

Submarket are usually dominated by lots of sharks, making being the new comer, as if entering to a red ocean, full of blood, caused by the existing sharks.

As a new coach, defining or searching for a blue ocean in your area is key, to build a profitable business, even if the niche may look very small in the beginning.

We started in the previous episode talking about the session and business structure in coaching.During which we spoke about some features, like whether the session is in person or virtual and whether the session is individual or in a group setting.

Today we’ll continue with the same topic, and we’ll cover some more interesting features that not only the coach should know , but also any one hiring a coach, or interested in learning coaching and join this industry.

Frequency and Duration:

One of the most important features of your coaching packages are:

How long the coaching program will be?How many time to meet?How long is each session?

Whole program duration: Coaching is a process and to be able to help the client achieve what he’s hiring you for, 1 or 2 sessions are usually not enough. Programs are usually designed for months, and take also into consideration the outcomes the client wants to achieve.

Frequency of meeting: Meetings can happen, monthly, weekly, every other week. In some cases the clients wants to meet multiple times a week, and this can be coordinated with the coach.

Durations: Durations are usually from 30 to 90 Minutes, they can be longer in some situations.

Setting your Price

Setting your price is an important feature in the way you want to position yourself.

Yes, there’s many factors that can help in identifying your prices, like experience, successful achievement with clients, certifications, and the value you’re adding to your customers, but at the end it depends only on you and what you decide for.

Coaching prices depends from country to another and within the country itself, as there’s no clear regulation for the prices.

In North America as example, most sessions durations are between 45 and 90 minutes.

New coaches charges between 60 to $100 per session

Those who have been in the field longer, charges $100 and up, reaching thousands.

Monthly packages, goes from $250 to $2000 + for general life coaching, and $500 to $10,000+ when it’s business coaching, corporate coaching or any niche coaching.

Today’s episode is not for experienced coaches, in fact it’s more for those who wants to know about coaching to hire coaches for themselves or their companies or their kids, and those who are interested with the industry and want to have some insights about the structure of the coaching sessions and programs.

Welcome to the episode 36, and today we’ll talk about the coaching structure.

When it comes defining your coaching business and sessions structure, many features are there to consider.

In person or Virtual.Individual or GroupFrequency and DurationSetting your Price

In person or Virtual.

Coaching can happen in person, and that means you are meeting the client physically whether in your office, in his office or any place that both are comfortable with.

Coaching can happen also virtually, and that means that you are conducting the coaching session, when you are in different geographic locations.

When virtually delivered, coaching can happen in 2 different ways,

Audio calls and that can happen through normal cell calls, what’s up, Viber or any other platform that provide that.

Or via video calls, and that can happen through Skype, Zoom , what’s up video, and the list is long.

Deciding whether In person or Virtual, is basically the client decision, (For sure with the approval of the coach) , and accordingly the coach should implement his business to be ready for any model preferred by the client. Which mean, having an appropriate place to receive the client, or being ready to go to his place.

If the Coaching is happening virtually, the coach should have well established internet and phone system, granting a good quality of sound and picture, without interruptions, as interruption can easily disconnect the coach and the customer and affect badly the session.

Individual or Group

Coaching happen in individual (Known also as 1 to 1) or group coaching (1 to many)

In Individual coaching, the coach is working with the customer individually, whether in person or virtually. Which one to offer , depends basically on the coach preference, but most of the coaches do both.

I was in a think tank this week with a group of entrepreneurs, acting in different fields: Catering, Insurance, Early childhood education and Marketing when our group facilitator open our eyes on something, that personally was always in my mind as a coach, but I never considered giving high importance to it, even though I was convinced with its efficiency.

The topic was online recorded courses.

In fact, independently on what area is our expertise, there’s’ always audience who’s interested to learn and get benefit of our courses.

Especially nowadays, with the technology development and the effect of the pandemic, COVID 19, that will start the second year with it, the access to online courses is not optional anymore, in fact many information product providers who were in the market since years, had to finally switch to online programs.

After getting the insight during the think tank, I had a quick view on some of the most known platforms for courses, and I was really surprised, when I found in a platform like Udemy , theses’ courses purchased over 120,000 times, this in not a like button on FB post or subscribe easy button in a Youtube channel, these are paid courses, with hours of learning and thousands of attached documents.

The idea I wanted to share today, is that we are continually learning new skills, new techniques, new methodologies, and while it became known for us, it’s not the same for thousands of others around the world, and for them, we can put our learning in a simple online course, and give them access to it one or more platforms, specialized for that , like Udemy or Mastermind.

This way, we share and add value to people and give them access to affordable programs, that if not received this way they are going to pay thousands of dollars for it.

A key factor to be successful in this action as a coach is to make sure not to fall in the perfection problem. We are not going to make out of these online courses our main stream of income, we’ll share valuable programs, with reasonable fees, to add value and easily cover any expenses previously spend to learn this information. If we’re going to spend hours of our time, looking to record the perfect course, this will affect our work as coach and deviate us from our main line of work.

For sure unless we want to consider online courses as a main stream of business.

When it comes to the coach part in any partnership, preparing the session is key for the success of the overall output of the session itself and of the whole coaching partnership. Do we need to prepare our coaching session?

This is with no doubt, one of the most asked questions by my students when we start digging deep in the coaching practice. Whether you just finish your training to become a coach or you’re practicing fully for 5 years, preparing the coaching session is not optional. In fact, big part of the success of the session is based on how ready you are and how prepared as a coach.

Let me put in other way, if you think that you’re good enough to prepare your sessions, that simply means that you missed some of the fundamentals from the beginning.

And for those who think the client will not feel it, I like to remind that preparing the session is for you as a respectful coach, before being for the client. If you are respecting this client and want really to help him achieve his desired goal, which I think it is the case, you need to spend time getting ready for him.

Whether you’re the kind of coach who take notes during the session itself, after the session , or not taking note, returning to what happened during the last session and if possible the previous ones, plus exploring the client session reparation form will help you reconnect with the subject and the client.

Your client will feel safe and in good hands when he feels that you still remember the details he shared with you before, he even will appreciate you more, as this is sign of care and respect, I guess a good coach will not need more than a client who trust his to thrive and excel in what he’s doing.

This type of commitment will be mirrored by the client when it comes to commitment to actions , the client will feel more responsible and more committed, and the opposite is true, if you’re not ready, a sign of non-care will be felt and it’s gonna be also reflected by the client on his part of the relationship.

Get ready for your client by preparing the session, they spend their time and money for you and gave one the most precious thing they have : their trust.
