This 2015 movie brought about the close of Marvels Phase Two and introduced AntMan to the Universe. In fact not one, but two of them. The marketing build up for this movie was more quiet than some of the other movies in the MCU and rumoured production issues along with a change of Director meant that expectations werent as high as we may expect. And although late to the MCU party Ant-Man was one of the first movies Stan Lee had seriously pitched as a movie, only to be derailed with the release of Honey I Shrunk the Kids.
In the comics Hank Pym actually appeared with his shrinking formula in a short story in Tales to Astonish #27 and was created by Stan Lee Larry Leiber and Jack Kirby. Later in Tales to Astonish #35 Stan Lee decided to bring him back as a superhero named Ant-Man. After Hank Pym, both Scott Lang and Eric O'Grady have taken the Ant-Man personas with the former being the main protagonist in this movie.

Our first animated review Hulk vs Wolverine was released 27th January 2009. Directed by Frank Paur, this was the first duel series Hulk Vs that tried to be more realistic than the Saturday morning watered down cartoons of years gone by. Striking the right tone for true comic book fans. We are joined this week by friend of the show Matt from Jasper Reviews who is standing in for Dave whilst he is away on a well earned family holiday.
Hulk vs Wolverine summary: Wolverine hunts down the Hulk, suspected of destroying a town. When they meet, the two unrelenting foes begin the most brutal brawl of the century! However their battle catches the attention of old enemies who want the Hulk for their own reasons. Wolverine must confront his past and continue battling the Hulk while trying to use the green giant a life as a living weapon.

Bonus episode talking to Eric Grissom and Will Perkins about their book Gregory Suicide, published by Dark Horse Comics. It was really interesting to speak to Eric and Will about the inspiration from this science fiction graphic novel working together, and the development process of the book. As always we break off into a few tangents and have a few laughs and lot of fun talking to these talented and great guys.
Both Chris and I really enjoyed this book and is a great self-contained science fiction thriller with an epic feeling of a much bigger world.
Gregory Suicide Summary: An obsolete AI program known as Gregory wakes in an unfamiliar world and is haunted by the memories of his past lives each ending in death by his own hand. On the path to discovering the truth about himself Gregory slips into the trenches of two opposing forces, the deadly AI who replaced him and a group of humans who want to destroy him and all his kind. In the end Gregory must choose a side in the coming revolution and the key to everything may lie in the strange visions he has between life and death. Set in a dystopian future the thought provoking science fiction explored in the the books 144 pages brings to mind the likes of Blade Runner Looper and Westworld. Rather than merely relying on genre tropes. Gregory Suicide uses the vivid aesthetic as a backdrop to a universal story about human struggle.
You can order directly through Eric or Will's sites or on Amazon.

In the 1980s John Hughes was a comingofage movie making machine. The Writer/Director was head of 80's classics like the National Lampoon series The Breakfast Club, Ferris Buellers Day Off and Pretty in Pink. As well as the legendary Planes Trains and Automobiles among others. After Joel Silver acquired the rights to the 1950's Weird Science comic published by EC Comics he took the idea from the story 'Made of the Future' and ran with it. Although the inspiration for the movie is loosely based on the comics it bares little resemblance in terms of storyline, but merely the essence of creating your own companion.

The 1995 Judge Dredd movie starring Sylvester Stallone was the winner from our social media vote and so that was our review for this week. The source material tackles some hard issues about what could happen with a facist state and if individuals are granted too much power. And when the movie started production they could either approach this by asking some hard questions keeping with an R-rating feel. Or, they could do as an action comedy Tango and Cash with Rob Schneider take. See which side of the coin we think this fell on.

Well, we've all done it havent we? Wondered about why no one has ever decided to become a real-life superhero to fight crime and help people! No? Well after reading Batman: Year One a young Mark Millar and friends were wondering this and years later he created his character and story Kick-Ass to explore what might happen if someone did. Despite the fact the comic book only hit the shelves in 2008 the movie rights were snapped up quickly and brought to the screen by Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman, who weve discussed previously with Kingsman. The violent nature of the movie coupled with some colourful language from a young Chloë Grace Moretz led to some negative reviews, but generally was a critical and commercial success. But what did our hosts make of it?
