  • Supreme Court Protects Religious Order from Funding Abortions

Real Abortion News #147 - Originally aired October 2020

Obamacare required all health insurance plans to pay for abortion and abortion-causing contraception. No one was exempt, including faith-based businesses and religious institutions like Little Sisters of the Poor. Onerous Obamacare mandates muzzled the religious freedom of Americans by threatening millions of dollars of fines if they refused to violate their convictions by funding abortion through their health insurance plans.

The Trump administration ordered a change in the Obamacare regulation protecting the conscience rights of people like the Little Sisters. Trump’s order was challenged and went to the Supreme Court. In July, the court decisively upheld the right for people to live out their religious beliefs 7 to 2.

Justice Alito said that religious exemptions are required by existing law. Why is abortion being used to restrict religious liberty?

  • Democratic VP Pick Attacks Pro-life Pregnancy Clinics

Real Abortion News #146 - Originally aired October 2020

California Senator Kamala Harris was named as Joe Biden’s running mate for Vice President. Prior to being elected as a Senator for California, Harris was California’s Attorney General. California passed the Reproductive FACT Act in 2015, forcing all pro-life medical clinics to promote and refer for abortion contrary to their conscience and mission. Refusal meant fines or closure. California’s Attorney General was responsible for enforcing the law. That Attorney General’s name was Kamala Harris. A group representing California pro-life pregnancy clinics named NIFLA filed suit, claiming California’s law violated the constitutional right of freedom of speech. The lawsuit made it to the ears of the Supreme Court which ruled in favor of the pro-life group in 2018. The name of that case is NIFLA v. Beccera. But before that it was NIFLA v. Harris.

  • Christian Pro-life Group in Syracuse Wins Lawsuit Against NY

Real Abortion News #145 - Originally aired October 2020

New Hope Family Services in Syracuse filed suit against New York, claiming the state discriminated against them for their Christian beliefs. New Hope Family Services is a Christian organization receiving no government funding. New Hope helps women, many of whom had considered abortion, to instead place their children for adoption within homes defined by the biblical standard of monogamous male/female marriage. The state required New Hope to either violate their deeply held religious convictions by placing children with same-sex couples or shutter their services. Rather than cave to the secular beliefs of New York, they courageously filed a lawsuit claiming the state violated their First Amendment rights. The case was dismissed. But New Hope appealed to the Federal 2ndCircuit Court. On July 21, a victory was secured for New Hope and believers everywhere.

  • Real Abortion News #144 - HHS Rule Says Abortion Not a Human Right

    Originally aired October 2020

Under Obamacare the definition of sex discrimination changed to include abortion. So, if a medical provider refused to refer or provide abortion then that refusal could be interpreted as a civil rights violation--an act of sex discrimination. In effect, this regulation makes abortion a human right. New York’s 2019 Reproductive Health Act had the same effect, also making abortion a human right, effectively redefining medical standard of care to include abortion. Additionally, New York modified the labor law to include “reproductive health decision-making” (code for abortion) as a new protected class for employment.

Recently, the Trump administration reversed the Obamacare definition “by returning to the government’s interpretation of sex discrimination according to the plain meaning of the word “sex” as male or female and as determined by biology” without reference to pregnancy termination.

  • Real Abortion News #143 - Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Dies

    Originally aired October 2020

Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, died on September 18. Trump expects to nominate her successor on Saturday. Ginsburg is widely known for redefining God-given freedom as government license.

The Supreme Court’s role is designed to safeguard the citizen’s God-given, Constitutional rights from legislative encroachment. Ginsburg was a controversial figure precisely because many of her legal positions intentionally invaded those rights, like life, with the fabrication of new liberties, like abortion. On the battlefield of inalienable rights, the opinion of many is that Ginsburg often fought for government.

Replacing Ginsburg on the bench is contentious because it represents a battle for liberty, carrying the real risk of morphing a once noble and free people into a weak slave state.

  • Real Abortion News #141 - FDA at Odds with Abortion Industry?

    Originally aired September 2020

It appears that the abortion industry took advantage of the Covid-19 crisis by attempting to loosen restrictions on chemical abortion. They seek to dispense the dangerous chemicals by mail. The FDA requires that chemical abortion, aka RU-486, must be dispensed under the supervision of a doctor. This is due to a 400% increased risk of infection and death compared to surgical abortion. A lawsuit was filed to relax the FDA’s restrictions. The FDA defended its protocols. No woman has yet complained of her inability to acquire an abortion due to Covid-19. Oddly, the abortion industry claims to have the ability to sue on behalf of women in general due to their close relationship. The FDA rejected this claim astutely noting, “…the entire point of this suit is to reduce [abortionist’s] relationship with their patients….”

  • Real Abortion News #140 - Planned Parenthood Admits Racist Foundations

    Originally aired August 2020

The nation’s largest Planned Parenthood affiliate, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York, announced the removal of the name of the organization’s founder, Margaret Sanger, from its flagship office in Manhattan. Angry staff blew the whistle on past and current racism stating, “Planned Parenthood was founded by a racist, white woman. That is a part of history that cannot be changed. While efforts have been made to undo some of the harm from institutional racism, many of these issues have worsened under [the recent CEO’s] tenure.” The staff lamented the fact that, “After years of complaints…about issues of systemic racism, pay inequity, and lack of upward mobility for Black staff,” they felt they needed to go public.

Is racism the reason why Planned Parenthood locates two out of three of their clinics in black neighborhoods?

  • Real Abortion News #139 - Abortion at the Gate of High Political Office

    Originally aired August 2020

Former Vice President Joe Biden announced his pro-abortion running mate recently, California Senator Kamala Harris. One news agency says the move makes this “the most pro-abortion presidential ticket in American history.” Since then, the National Abortion Rights Action League committed to “powering Vice President Biden to victory this November.”

Why does abortion stand at the threshold of high political office? Why is the abortion debate seemingly unsolvable? Abortion is a symptom of a larger problem. Abortion points to a deeper belief about what it means to be human. Government’s role is to protect the life and inalienable rights of the living. If preborn boys and girls are human, then government is obligated to protect them. If they are human and government advocates their destruction, then government is complicit to the greatest injustice in history.

  • Real Abortion News #138 - Covid-19 Linked to Increase in Abortion?

    Originally aired July 2020

Evidence points to the Covid-19 scare contributing to an increase in abortion. The negative economic impact including massive job losses intensified the anxieties faced by pregnant women. Even under normal circumstances health and financial pressures put women at risk for abortion. During the lockdown abortion was considered an ‘essential service.’ A CBS news story noted increased demand for abortion at abortion facilities. An ABC news story noted a 35% increase in requests for assistance for abortion funds. The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration reported a 3.5% increase in abortion for 2020 over 2019 for the timeframe January to June.

The data only suggests a trend and may not actually represent a national increase in abortion rates. What is clear, however, is that choices made out of fear of the unknown often result in poor outcomes.
