Point Line Plane is back! The early 2000s "synth punk" band that were contemporaries with so many luminaries are back in 2026 with a reissued first album by Skin Graft. Let's hear the story of the band's formation, the deep understanding of lore, as well as the beginnings of Witch Mountain. Witch Mountain, of course, was well ahead of the DOOM trend. Creative viability, pushing forward with sounds and returning to the music after a prolonged absence. Playing drums in Two Ton Boa, building bridges vs. burning bridges, sustainable living as an artist...all that and the origin story for one of the most enduring and respected band booking agencies around, Nanotear booking. Oh yeah, and did you know he's a published author too? Wow!
Duane is back! This time to talk Tomahawk, and the upcoming tour on Tonic Mobility, which the band never has toured before. So listen is as we talk about picking the pool of songs, practicing songs that have never played live. Practice procedures, as you age. Bands growing and changing versus "giving the people what they want". How the playing of the players has changed over the years since the band started as well as some other heady topics. The deconstruction of professional performance of David Yow. Rock as a social event, tje nature of creativity, what makes a great live band, art vs. entertainment, influence, taste, overcoming the algorithm, Jim Kimball, the future of the Jesus Lizard and lots more... as well as the D2Archipeligo!
A drum themed protest record with chants? Yeah, that sounds like a good record store day purchase. The fantastic drummer for Season to Risk, David Silver comes on Protonic to talk all about it an all-percussion album designed to energize and unify the defense of democracy, joined by Ian Prince (Houston, BirdHands). Featuring Matt Chamberlain, Blake Fleming, Kliph Spurlock, Greg Saunier and many more this is a unique and cool project, whose digital versions include EXTENDED versions to be played at nonviolent protests over a Loud speaker. We talk about that, all the recent activities in Minneapolis with ICE, as well as Ian Prince's DIRECT ACTION WITH DRUMS, amongst many other hot button political items. Hear all about how the record on Skinsuit Communications, came together, how to make protests more effective, and more.
Stay Puft is a Ghostbusters themed concept record by the music collective known as The Chop. These are the same guys responsible for The Beverly Crushers (a Star Trek The Next Generation themed concept band that Rob Kassees was on for), and Ghostbeef, a post-apocalyptic concept record about the fast food chain Arby's. Tom doesn't just play bass for these wild conceptual records, but he's also part of the pantheon of the increasingly popular 1001 Album Complaints podcast. Where Classic albums' from the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die book are given full backstories told by musicians who love to mercilessly nitpick the details. Conan has been a guest on this great show before and will again. This is a deep dive into all things Ghostbusters and a detailed song by song breakdown of the record. Why not? The title of this very show was inspired by the movie!
Six years have past since Chris Spencer was last on Protonic! At the time Human Impact was brand new. So let's catch up. Starting with the reissue of Occupational Hazard on Lamb Unlimited. Remastered and including the AmRep demos. Unsane with Eric Cooper and Jon Syverson will be doing a lot of touring this year, along with an appearance at Roadburn! We speak about that as well the incredible story behind the release of the once lost, than found Improvised Munitions, and exactly where The Ernie Chicorelli disappeared to...the nature of the Telecaster and why it is the perfect guitar for Chris. The Body Bomb video (and MTV's very succinct response), synergy with the sonic science of Jim Coleman with Human Impact. Human Impact writing something like 48 songs during the pandemic. Celan Recording in Berlin's Neubauten studio in a wild two-week sprint. Cutthroats 9, Frank Kozik and Man's ruin. All that and so very much more!
4 years and a month ago (what? Really?), William Goldsmith was on to talk about Sunny Real Estate, Fire Theft, Foo Fighers and Assertion. Now Assertion has a new record that snuck into Conan's top records of 2025 "Basking in the Gaslight". In additon to that Sunny Day Real Estate has been back and playing shows ! The "Down in the Park" sessions with the Foo Fighters (as well as some great talk about Gary Numan).. the recording of Diary and history of that as well as revisiting. Which albums William can listen to and which he can't... and that there are 3 2" tapes of 90s Sunny Day Real Estate waiting to get listened to. Wow! All this plus SDRE and Fire Theft history. William's powerful friendship with Scott Jernigan of KARP, including a two drummer project! and lots, lots more. It's been a long time, let's catch up.
Black Heart is back, and playing shows in 2025. What wonderful news. Pall knows knives! Acidwrx balisong knives (aka: aka: butterfly knives). Probably more knife talk than has ever happened on this show. The history of Three Mile Pilot, a history of Black Heart Procession. working with Issac Brock on Ugly Casanova (and Modest Mouse in general), making a video for every song BEFORE the youtube age, Corey Rusk calling about being on Touch and Go and getting the message from his mom, the act of creation, being a quiet person and a frontman, and the Ice Cream Floats upcoming cruise. It's been 5 1/2 years since Pall's Black heart bandmate Toby was on, so let's dig in.

The evolution of the Champs, including the Santa Cruz days and move to SF and Tim Green joining. Playing metal in an environment that didn't always support that. changing the name to C4AM95 for their "third record" and why that may have not been the smartest idea. Listing gear in the record jacket, Drag City, Changing to The Fucking Champs (based on a t-shirt), IV and Extra Man. Collaborations and tours with Trans Am, Josh leaving and Phil Manley tagging in. Side projects and how the Champs kind of petered out. Tim also has a synth based electronic record out called Orange Magnet on bandcamp. and why a Fucking Champs reunion is pretty unlikely.
