  • Connections: Discussing Pete Buttigieg's "Douglass Plan"
Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg has a plan to combat systemic racial inequality. His "Douglass Plan," named after abolitionist Frederick Douglass, would create a $10 billion fund for black entrepreneurs over five years, while also investing in historically black colleges, reducing the prison population, legalizing marijuana, passing a new Voting Rights Act, and more. Buttigieg says his proposal is equal in scale to the Marshall Plan. We break down the Douglass Plan with our

  • Connections: Discussing the City of Rochester's "dynamic staffing" policy for firehouses
A new policy implemented by the City of Rochester allows the fire chief to temporarily close firehouses due to low staffing. The move saves the city more than a million dollars per year. • Connections: Understanding the Batson Challenge and how juries are constructed
Can prosecutors exclude potential jurors if that person is black? A law called the Batson Challenge says no; in practice, the answer is yes. But the Supreme Court recently weighed in to say that prosecutors can’t blatantly eliminate all possible jurors of color in an effort to stack the jury pool. This is an issue with an ugly history in this country. Our guests debate how juries are constructed, the Batson Challenge, and what the law should – and shouldn’t – say. In studio: Mark Foti , attorney
